How will you refer to Charles now?

Obviously in official/media contexts he will be called the King.

But at home, will you refer to him as the King like we did of course the Queen? Or will you still call him Charles? Is King Charles the easier middle ground?

I can't get my head around just saying the King.

I'm mildly intrigued that William and Catherine won't be Prince William and Princess Catherine - anyone know why?
Instead they've just got an extra Cornwall tagged on to the Duke and Duchess bit.
Seems a bit odd!

I believe William becomes Duke of Cornwall automatically when he becomes heir. The title Prince of Wales would have to be given to him by the monarch. If that does happen maybe it will be timed with the coronation.

Charles the third does have an unflattering rhyme to it !

silkygold · 09/09/2022 09:57

I saw a tweet saying it would be difficult not to tag on "spaniel" in reference to King Charles Grin

My dad called the Queen the Baked Bean, so I'll ask him for a King rhyming slang now

Wonnle · 09/09/2022 09:58

I've never referred to him at all , so not much change for me

I'm curious can he refuse and offer it to William? What if William turns it down?

People keep suggesting he should do this like it would be some kind of favour to William, it wouldn’t be. If Charles abdicated and handed the whole performance to William now, he probably wouldn’t be grateful for it and I doubt his wife or kids would be either.

Hey Charlie Boy! (as I normally do)

BeautifulWar · 09/09/2022 10:04

I don't often discuss the monarchy but I suspect I'll say Charles. It'll take a long time for middle aged people upwards to get used to having a king, I think.

Why do some people dislike Charles (in particular as opposed to a dislike of the monarchy in general)?

I don't understand people who go on about tradition as a reason for keeping the monarchy yet think this is the x factor where we should choose which royal accedes the throne? Why would he refuse the throne? His whole life has been leading up to this moment. Do they still believe in the divine right of kings?

SenecaFallsRedux · 09/09/2022 10:04

I think that Charles will make William Prince of Wales before the coronation. In fact, I would not be surprised if he does it a few weeks after the funeral.

ChipsRoastOrBoiled · 09/09/2022 10:06

Trying over & over yo say 'The King' and 'The Queen' for Charles & Camilla, so it becomes habit.

JauntyJinty · 09/09/2022 10:06

Charlie Big Potato

bengalcat · 09/09/2022 10:07

I’d call him the King

Most likely everything will be expedited. Charles is no spring chicken.

RedToothBrush · 09/09/2022 10:09

The Queen was 'Queenie' and I think Charles will almost certainly be 'Charlie'.

(I don't think I will be able to go with Willie though).

There's always Billy.

That parasite Tampon Lover as usual. He's no King of mine.

Chuckles. Always have.

It was Her Maj or Queeniepops.

girlmom21 · 09/09/2022 10:14

What are the tampon references about?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 09/09/2022 10:15

I'm imagining that Charles will be misgendered for a while ...

Her Maj (slight pause) King Charles III or God Save Our Gracious Qu...ing.

Easiest if you just Google tampongate. Because there's no way in hell I'm typing it out

What are the tampon references about?

When Charles was having an affair with Camilla while still married to Diana there was a tape recording of a phone call in which he expressed jealousy towards Camilla's tanpona.

Thanks @ClumpingBambooIsALie.
I was sick in my mouth 🤣

AnonymousHippopotamus · 09/09/2022 10:24

I'll just keep calling him by the nickname I have for him. I can't really say it on here, it's an in-joke between the two of us and we can't have the press getting hold of it 😉

Does anyone know what would happen if, hypothetically, the royal family just en masse refused to continue doing it. I presume no one could actually make them act as head of state?

"God save Mrs. Ethel Shroake, Long live Mrs. Ethel Shroake..." Ever seen the film "The bed sitting room"? 😅
