Loving the nerdy detail on here!

I’m a priest and getting my head around all
the familiar prayers now saying King instead of Queen. Also now planning numerous services and school assemblies and wondering what things we should cancel between now and the funeral.

Which I’m here can I just ask, would you expect your priest/ vicar/ chaplain to wear all black until after the funeral? Would you expect them to cancel social things in that time, especially things that take place in their parish/ place of work?

Sombre dress if not black. Better to err on the side of caution.

and yes to cancelling social stuff.

Unless that post was itself being ironic?? Like a double bluff, but less interesting.

It’s now ‘his majesty’s armed forces / revenue and customs / government etc.

can confirm that QC changed to KC - and old school friend changed their Twitter handle quick sharp as soon as the bar announced it.

and I expect school will be all about it today - wonder how many of my year 5s will tell me that the Queen has died in case I hadn’t noticed it yet!

re the PP who is a vicar - I’d dress slightly plain / somber but would necessarily go all black? Depends on how conservative your congregation is though I expect? Husband who is a civil servant has dug out a dark suit and black tie for today…

SpinCityBlues · 09/09/2022 07:17

And I think it’s Carolingian, re the age of a Charles.

We are The New Carolingians. Sounds very new romantic.

I like KC rather than QC.

Ooo just thought of another, Civil Servants may “lose” the Queen’s Birthday Privilege Day by it being absorbed into their annual leave, new Civil Servant’s wouldn’t be entitled.

I would expect it to be in the best interests of the new Monarch to keep close ties with Crown Civil Servants, who after all are servants to the United Kingdom's government of the day, by giving a privilege day as a reminder of who they ultimately serve.

Whilst it may not longer sadly be the Queen's birthday, it could be the King's birthday in Nov, which is good timing as a bridge between the Aug BH and Christmas. We got a choice of two dates either side of a weekend.

we will see....

Things will now be referred to as "His majesty's service" people now serve King and Country.

Money and stamps will be phased out as the introduction of those with King Charles III on them come in.

As silly as it sounds, this is going to be the biggest change for me. Something I use every day will have a different look and feel foreign to me...

SpinCityBlues · 09/09/2022 07:27

On His Majesty’s Secret Service sounds all wrong and I don’t like it 🙁

daisychain01 · 09/09/2022 07:28

If anyone tried it on with "I can't work because I'm stricken with grief" just remind them of how the Queen behaved throughout her long reign.

She always showed up, no excuses, she was there front and centre. She even did the right thing at her husband's funeral, unlike others, without a grumble or word about her loss, suffering, etc.

Headisrecked · 09/09/2022 07:29

We have a king that once wished he was a tampon!😆

lightisnotwhite · 09/09/2022 07:29

What happens to things the Queen was patron of? Does Charles take over or is it up for grabs again?

SerendipityJane · 09/09/2022 07:35

Bettyboo12 · 08/09/2022 22:24

We will have to get used to singing God save the King

Probably the only thing Charles could do as King to impress me is to ask for Jerusalem to be the national anthem.

I look forward to disappointment

Someone must be busy getting a new design for stamps ready to print. And post boxes. Presumably new ones will say CR on them?

Unless he chooses a different name. Like Queen Victoria’s real first name was Alexandrinabutvsge chose Victoria. And George V1 real name was Albert I think.

Agadoodoododont · 09/09/2022 07:38

*Alexandrina but she chose

They confirmed on BBC news yesterday that he will Charles III

Agadoodoododont · 09/09/2022 07:39

Thanks —- I gave up on the news, I’m afraid.

He was announced as King Charles III yesterday by Liz Truss so I think we can be confident that's his regnal name.

It's ridiculous. This stuff will be on the news for weeks if not months.

Question why did Departments cease to have the Christmas and Mandy Thursday Privilege Days in 2012 but retained the Queen’s Birthday? You may recall there was a process by which they were absorbed into Annual Leave for existing Civil Servants and New Civil Servants were/are given a lower annual leave allowance I.e. less 1.5 days.

The Queen’s Birthday is/was loosely tied to her official birthday (end of May) not her actual birthday (April). If it remains I wouldn’t see the date changing.

They'll be redistributed

Ditto those of the former PoW

Thighdentitycrisis · 09/09/2022 07:51

@MissLucyEyelesbarrow
True, I also remember in the 70’s the old sixpence used to be worth 2.5 p!

SpinCityBlues · 09/09/2022 07:52

Will the Prince’s Trust keep its name? It’s so well known.

CaveMum · 09/09/2022 07:53

Historian (former advisor to Horrible Histories) Greg Jenner has confirmed that we are now Carolingians!

Also on the subject of William and the PoW title, it is not automatic and has to be gifted by the Monarch. For now he becomes Duke of Cornwall. When he is invested as PoW, Catherine will become “Princess William of Wales” or “Catherine, Princess of Wales” - she will not be Princess Catherine.
