The TV schedule. No Eastenders.

MyMumSaysALot · 09/09/2022 03:03

I’m American.

I’m in my sixties and Her Majesty has been a steadfast part of life for what seems like forever. I’m sure there are people all over the world who feel a sadness today.

Fly away home, Your Majesty.
Long live The King.

Post box nerd alert
Victoria was the first monarch to have her initials on post boxes there are a couple of very old ones that are plain kicking around (I think guernsey?)
george v there are quite a few you can tell these by very plain GR on them
Edward vii has the vii on them they are quite ornate
Edward VIII much rarer there’s one in mull in Tobermory with viii on
george vi much more ornate than his grandad look newer and have the vi on.
Elizabeth there are many and the ones we are most familiar with.

it will be interesting to see new CR ones what style he will chose. I think he’ll be quite modest I also don’t think he’ll have iii on as it could never be confused with Charles ii

crumpet · 09/09/2022 03:42

Royal warrants on things like groceries will need to change I think

TeenDivided · 09/09/2022 06:17

The 100th birthday and 60th anniversary cards from The Queen will have to be redone and they'll need to work out what's happening to those being sent out from today. So glad my parents got theirs last month as I think they'll treasure that more than one from Charles.

We're moving from being 'modern Elizabethans' to ... what?

TeenDivided · 09/09/2022 06:19

re money. The other thing that may be unexpected is that I think Charles will face left rather than right on coins. iirc The heads alternate in direction with each reign.

MeanderingGently · 09/09/2022 06:31

Oh, I didn't know the monarch will face the other way when the new money is issued, that's interesting.

I love the fact that the main channels have stopped TV adverts, I wish it wasn't temporarily.......

JedEye · 09/09/2022 06:34

Last nights theatre show here was cancelled as people were pulling into the car park.

Queens awards and Queens Harbour Master will change to King.

LovingTheseAutumnSnippets · 09/09/2022 06:40

My train home was cancelled, as the driver was stricken with grief.

I've heard it all now. The lengths people will go to get out of doing their job.

HappyBinosaur · 09/09/2022 06:43

I’m a priest and getting my head around all
the familiar prayers now saying King instead of Queen. Also now planning numerous services and school assemblies and wondering what things we should cancel between now and the funeral.

Which I’m here can I just ask, would you expect your priest/ vicar/ chaplain to wear all black until after the funeral? Would you expect them to cancel social things in that time, especially things that take place in their parish/ place of work?

That’s very interesting, I never knew that! I’ll be checking them whenever I walk past one now.

Thanks for sharing that information.

@LovingTheseAutumnSnippets Are you being serious?

Charlestons! To fit in with Strictly Come Dancing of which he will become Patron.

My friend has a graduation ceremony which the Queen was Patron off. She’s worried it will be cancelled. What’s the protocol with Patrons anyone know?

I wouldn't expect all black but I'd probably avoid things that were actively "bright" just to avoid risk.

Again the social events would depend on the event - but I think most social events run by the church are for the benefit of the parishioners so I wouldn't expect them to I cancelled I don't think, but maybe adapted as required? e.g. to include time for remembrance?

CraftyClara · 09/09/2022 06:50

The Queen’s Royal Household will all be unemployed in six months.

Passtheduchyonthelefthandside · 08/09/2022 22:46

Why is Prince William not the prince of Wales? I thought heir to the throne was given that title.

Also not necessarily given straight away. Charles didn't have it until well into the 60s.

HappyBinosaur · 09/09/2022 06:52

@Augend23 Thanks for replying.
It’s actually my birthday and I was meant to be going out for dinner and drinks locally with some local people but I think I should cancel that.
I’m also going out with old friends far from where I live and work so will still do that.

I’m changing all my assemblies etc to be about HM. Thankfully we are provided with resources for services as we are having to change everything for Sunday.

LaMariposa · 09/09/2022 06:57

Modern Carolian’s I believe.

Could you switch that to something at home? I wouldn't mind at all if someone was still going out for dinner, and I'd still want to celebrate my friend's birthday but I can imagine the optics of being seen out and about might not be ideal.

It was a joke! The hint being the last sentence "Not really. Southern trains are just a shit show."

I meant move the nearby one to at home btw, not the far away one.

The Horrible Histories Monarchs song is now out of date.

NashvilleQueen · 09/09/2022 07:04

The Horrible Histories Monarchs song is now out of date.

This was said by my 15 year old within five about 2 mins of the announcement. She had spent a lot of time learning it.
