My life is falling apart now that my steadfast rock has gone😔. I just didn’t realise how much her kind words made everything tolerable.

TwigTheWonderKid · 09/09/2022 08:55

When will the coronation be? There was a 16 month gap between the Queen becoming queen and being crowned. Is that normal?

Rainbowqueeen · 09/09/2022 09:03

What will happen to the Queen’s personal staff??
People like Angela Kelly and her private secretary?

I imagine some are retirement age and will simply retire but will Charles staff take over their roles?

Yes normal - It's arranged for a convenient time some months after the accession. If I were guessing, I'd say June next year - around the time of the Official Birthday (if they can make it all work together)

I think we've discussed this before (possibly under a different name for me) - do we think William will become Prince of Wales before or after the coronation? Will they want to present the line of succession at the coronation with the titles they will have going forward? Or does Charles get his moment of glory first?

I think Charles will make William Prince of Wales before the coronation. Both Edward VIII and George V made their eldest sons Prince of Wales before their coronations. The late Queen did not, likely because Charles was so young.

Your department must have made different arrangements as per Civil Service Management Code www.gov.uk/government/publications/civil-servants-terms-and-conditions

Section 9.2.4 sets out the entitlement.

The title od Duke of Edinburgh has now vested with the Crown, and could be granted to another individual (quite probably Prince Edward)

Scout and Guide Promises change.

you're right! I need to change some of our paperwork (for the cub scouts)

Personal staff are in a redundancy situation, either immediately or after a transition period.

They can either be offered roles in the other Royal households, and should be priority candidates if there are vacancies, or will be paid off or have voluntary early retirement.

I expect there may be soft influence to assist them in finding new posts elsewhere if they want to continue working but there are no current suitable roles to move to.

My train home was cancelled, as the driver was stricken with grief. All the waiting rain-soaked commuters accepted this with a deep understanding, and stoically moved towards platform 12 to await the inevitability overcrowded 18:42 to Reigate.

Not really. Southern trains are just a shit show.

🤣🤣🤣

Thenightwemet16 · 09/09/2022 09:20

Radio stations are just playing sad songs.

KateofGhent · 09/09/2022 09:36

Haven't read the full thread, this may have already been mentioned, but what will the new age be called? Under the last King Charles (II) they were called the Restoration years, what next after the Elizabethan Age?

I joined in 2017 and I get it. Usually tagged on to the late May bank hols.

L1ttledrummergirl · 09/09/2022 09:40

I guess the royal standard will change to Charles colours, unless they don't change them anymore.

Re the oath of allegiance, ds2 joined the army a few years ago so we have a copy of the signed oath he took. He was medically discharged and is now in the process of reinlisting, I guess he will be retaking the oath as a result, so may well end up with another copy but to the king.

We’re Carolingians now apparently!

KateofGhent · 09/09/2022 09:41

Sorry ! I have just read the term "Carolingians". I think I would prefer to stay an Elizabethan.

evilharpy · 09/09/2022 09:42

I haven't RTFT but some of the chambers' websites have already changed their senior counsel to KC. I saw a couple that had changed them all to KC individually but still under the header Queen's Counsel, and one guy was listed as Joe Bloggs KQC - some web monkey obviously working in a hurry.

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 09/09/2022 10:22

My usual Absolute 80s radio station is full of maudlin songs. Not from the 80s.

Had to switch it off. Can't bear misbag music

The 100th birthday and 60th anniversary cards from The Queen will have to be redone and they'll need to work out what's happening to those being sent out from today. So glad my parents got theirs last month as I think they'll treasure that more than one from Charles.

We're moving from being 'modern Elizabethans' to ... what?

We’re all charlatans now 😏

Fine if you are a trekkie, I would think.

Imagine all the new Cash’s name tapes for the kids’ uniforms 😱

This made me laugh a lot.

Wow! I'm amazed at this I've never seen a VR post box! Now I want to go find one! Don't worry I won't stalk you to find out where your lane is I genuinely promise 😂

As a lawyer I’m quite excited about KCs (do QCs now automatically change their post nominal tomorrow? Or only if you’re appointed from now on?). And Queen’s Bench law reports become Kings Bench. All the HM services will have to rebrand from Her to His.

Oh yes! I hadn't thought about all that!

TitInATrance · 09/09/2022 10:47

For the postbox nerds - almost unique example due to design feature …

Why is Prince William not the prince of Wales? I thought heir to the throne was given that title.

His father, the new king, has to confer that title on him.

It baffles me that 70 years is apparently not long enough to get used to it.

What is the difference between the two terms?
