I think there’s a sense of loss because someone who has been present for most of us’ whole lives has died. Whether you’re a royalist or not, she’s always been there. Now she’s not and everything feels slightly out of kilter.

This is one of the most offensive sentences ever composed. Engage in this national hysteria if you must but please don't imply that she or anyone in her lineage ever did any good for Northern Ireland.

Give it a rest!

Northern Ireland IS very much part of the UK and this is made very explicit in the Belfast Agreement.

United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is the FULL name of our State.

If you accept the Belfast Agreement, you must accept the fact Northern Ireland is part of the UK.

Ergo, there is nothing at all offensive in what I've said.

Your ridiculous crap about Provisional Sinn Féin and Provisional IRA Commander Martin McGuinness IS offensive to all right thinking people in the Republic of Ireland AND the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Queen Elizabeth II is NOT responsible for the Troubles in Northern Ireland. The people were. Even worse the likes of the PIRA and UDA were responsible for sustaining that conflict.

The Queen did her part in promoting reconciliation and forgiveness by example when she visited the Republic of Ireland as well as meeting a man who was involved in the murder of her own relative.

Jack80 · 09/09/2022 19:15

Rip to her may she be with Philip now both at rest.

You need to fuck off and save your views for somewhere else. How dare you say that on here. Disrespectful beyond belief.

I have been very sad since I heard. Like so many others she has been the Queen for my whole life, and there is a strange and very deep sorrow at her passing.

I believe King Charles III will be a strong monarch, he has had a wonderful role model.

My very deepest sympathy goes out to the royal family in their time of mourning. The Queen is dead, long live the King.

Kjpt140v · 09/09/2022 19:49

Honest question. Why is it awful news?

TheSlimmingFoodie · 09/09/2022 20:15

If you need to ask the question Kjpt140v then there’s no point in giving you an answer

the above is sad, the royal family had disabled members, first cousins of the queen. This is how they were treated.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 09/09/2022 20:22

It's how a lot of families treated disabled members. Are you seriously dragging up an article from something that happened 80 years ago when attitudes were very different?

Daffi · 09/09/2022 20:23

Are you serious?

Daffi · 09/09/2022 20:25

Childish response

Daffi · 09/09/2022 20:26

You thought this day would never come????

Daffi · 09/09/2022 20:27

Diana wasn't worth the tears

Loudhousefun · 09/09/2022 20:28

Read the article. The deaths were lied about and they died much later, one of them quite recently. No one attended the funerals, only hospital staff. Are you saying this is not sad????

Daffi · 09/09/2022 20:34

Meeting LT clearly pushed her over the edge

Daffi · 09/09/2022 20:36

Why were you waiting for a taxi?

The Bowes Lyons were the Queen Mothers family and she was only ‘Royal’ because she married into the Royal Family. The Royal Family had nothing to do with the sisters being in a hospital. It was all on their own family. And whilst it in no way makes it right - it’s unfortunately what people did in those days.

Yes it’s sad. Very sad. But so it trying to twist their reality as a means of discrediting the Royal Family.

Ummm no, it’s called the truth. It happened, as recently as 2015. Nobody attended her funeral. I don’t need to do anything to discredit the royal family. Not attending is their own actions. My sympathies lie with the poor disabled cousins who nobody visited, despite having access to unbelievable wealth and means.

Queenbee77 · 09/09/2022 20:49

7 Decades, 15 Prime Ministers. 1 Queen; Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Rest in peace ❤️

Mooshamoo · 09/09/2022 20:51

@member82. I never understood Irish people who hold current English people responsible for what previous English people did. How does that make ANY sense. It is blind hatred.
Just being born in the same country as some one else does not make me responsible for their deeds. Do you hold the current German people responsible for what the Nazis did? Then how are current English people anyway responsible for what previous English people did. We are different people!

vera99 · 09/09/2022 21:31

@member82 I'm getting tagged for your posts. Off-topic but if Martin McGuiness and Iain Paisley could become genuine friends following the peace process then there is hope for us all. The greatest achievement of my lifetime was the Good Friday Agreement.

The sisters had way more family than the Queen Mother, the Queen and Princess Margaret. And the information is very easy to find - if someone isn’t only interested in blaming their Aunt and younger cousins for their plight.

Bye Queen you were a truly great lady.

what will the national anthem be now?
New money...everything's changing
The last few years have been so weird
king Charles sounds odd only known the spaniel up til now!

National anthem will be the same but replace Queen with King and her with him.

Mumkins42 · 09/09/2022 22:12

My tears are for the multiple old people I've seen crying in their own urine in an NHS hospital bed begging for pain relief or someone to hold their hand; the ones who will be lucky to see one physician as they decay away awaiting the end. And I've seen plenty.

Anyone's passing is sad and she seemed like a decent person considering her privilege. The change and sense of unfamiliarity this brings can be unsettling. Like others here, that's as far as it goes.
