PyjamaFan · 07/09/2022 14:05

I'm going to a bug M&S foodhall tomorrow, for the first time in about a year.

Any recommendations?

Om my list already:

Count on Us chocolate mousse
Tuna fishcakes

Beyond that I need some suggestions!

TIA.

Frozen mash
Frozen pastries such as croissants and pan au chocolat.
Their family sized beef pasta bake
Percy pigs.

MiauzenKatzenjammer · 07/09/2022 18:12

Cranberry and pecan loaf

Their cheese scones from the fresh bakery bit. They are something else.
They do a wee praline chocolate bar that's similar to Thornton's Alpini but nicer.
When I go by myself I get one & eat it in the car before I go home. 3 minutes of bliss.

disconnected101 · 07/09/2022 18:18

I could eat a whole bag by myself in one go find their salted tortilla chips very moreish.

Do they sell carrot chutney? I remember it being in one of their prepackaged sandwiches a long time ago. I've never forgotten how delicious it is.

They still do that sandwich! At least at my hospital M&S, it's a ploughman's and actually rather nice.

Ticksallboxes · 07/09/2022 18:40

Whenever I go to our big out of town M&S I always start with lunch and their Seafood Selection Sandwich. It's the best sandwich OF ALL TIME and so delicate and small, compared to the heart-attack inducing stuff all the 'artisan' places near us now serve.

Blond chocolate topped with caramelised pistachios and sea salt.

A very dangerous piece of confectionery for me. I can usually have a few squares of any chocolate and put the rest away. This I can eat whole in one sitting and wish for more. It's quite pricey at £3 but I am a sucker for pistachios!

The green olive and chilli ciabatta rolls are exceptionally good and they freeze well, as you need to oven bake them anyway it isn’t a problem that they have been frozen (and they always have short use by)

Ticksallboxes · 07/09/2022 18:47

Wow. I had no idea that M&S Food was the Harrods Food Hall of the provinces.

Who knew! I just thought it was overpriced.

Yalz · 07/09/2022 18:47

M&S red shelf labels are not all the same. Sometimes they just refer to regular things on a meal deal or multibuy, which could be useful but are not especially bargainous.

My M&S just now had sold out of most of the red shelf label things I noticed this morning but had others I hadn't, such as 6 can packs of drinks for something like 64p, including two flavours of diet lemonade. I bought some 500ml lighter blackcurrant tonic water bottles for 44p each. Those contain no artificial sweeteners or E202 (preservative).

They also have some paper napkins, paper straws, paper cups and reusable plastic cups at a significant discount.

I saw those £3.50 cake in a jar things, too. They started months ago and the range seems to have expanded, I don't know why.

Hyacinth2 · 07/09/2022 18:56

If anyone from M&S is looking in -CUT BACK ON THE PLASTIC - and I might shop there again.

I get M&S food on Ocado and I am very underwhelmed. Nowhere near as good as Waitrose and more expensive

While there, just bear in mind that they treat their staff like shit.

Do they? In what ways?

I’ve never seen them in the food hall but the coffee shops do a lemon and blueberry iced bun that is so good.
we’re a fan of the dine for £15. Last one we had was a Mexican inspired one.

Climbingthelaundrymountain · 07/09/2022 19:17

The cereal milk clusters. So good!

limitededitionbarbie · 07/09/2022 19:18

A chicken shawarma kebab. They are about £8.50 past time I bought one a couple of months ago but there is a lot of chicken on them. The sauce they come with is lovely.

They also do a six pack of steak in individual packets inside the big pack. It's always been really nice.

The strawberries are always lovely too. Worth the price.

They do a lovely truffle cheese and a marmite cream cheese. I love them but they are an aquifer taste.

Their own brand gin in the green bottle is nice too.

limitededitionbarbie · 07/09/2022 19:21

My DH loves the dirty fries

Delicious steak stir fry deal with sauce

limitededitionbarbie · 07/09/2022 19:25

I want to go there now and spend money I don't have Blush

MomwasCasual · 07/09/2022 19:26

Ham, cheese and pickle sandwich and a syrup sponge dessert.

My lunch of choice since 1991, when I first started work nearby. If they ever stop making them I will be bereft!

I think it is quite nice :).
It was even nicer when it melted a bit during the heatwave, for some reason. Nom.

kimchifox · 07/09/2022 19:47

OP has probably been and gone by now but the strawberry tarts are amazing - pastry is excellent! Two in a pack and haven't had one for ages so no idea of cost.

A PP has mentioned the shawarma - had it the other day and it was v good but I'm feeling smug today that I've got a Waitrose one currently in the oven reduced from £8 to £5 by going in at 7:30 am - who knew that was when to get all the reduced stuff!

Crikeyalmighty · 07/09/2022 19:57

Chilli prawn bucanti (ready meal)
The packs of 3 for 8 battered or breaded fish and chicken
The packs of 2 fish cakes
No alcohol spiced and coke (tastes like rum and coke)- lovely

Also buy up yellow sticker stuff and freeze

I eat a lot of M&S food and honestly think I spend less than others who go to Tesco or sainsburys- I just don't buy snacks or biscuits or cake and I buy a lot on yellow stickers!! I am lucky though that I have the flexibility to pop in 3 or 4 days a week at 6pm
