PyjamaFan · 07/09/2022 14:05

I'm going to a bug M&S foodhall tomorrow, for the first time in about a year.

Any recommendations?

Om my list already:

Count on Us chocolate mousse
Tuna fishcakes

Beyond that I need some suggestions!

TIA.

Chicken liver pate - I've been buying it since the 1980s!

KangarooKenny · 07/09/2022 16:47

Tomato and mascarpone pasta sauce

KittyCatsby · 07/09/2022 16:51

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the Portuguese custard tarts from the bakery. They are small little tarts of absolute yummyness and cost ( a few weeks ago ) £1.10 each. We buy 4 , and don't even wait to go home before we eat them ( 2 each )

Marmite Pinwheels made with Cheddar and Red Leicester. Lovely

Make sure you buy 3 boxes as one won’t make it home from the shop.

BadNomad · 07/09/2022 16:53

Do they sell carrot chutney? I remember it being in one of their prepackaged sandwiches a long time ago. I've never forgotten how delicious it is.

Newgirls · 07/09/2022 16:55

Frozen veggie sausages - maybe a bit niche but we all like those!

bookworm14 · 07/09/2022 17:01

I’m addicted to the M&S Peri Peri mayo - it’s like crack. Weirdly hard to get hold of though - I check every branch of M&S I pass! 😄

kimchifox · 07/09/2022 17:02

If you like dried seaweed M&S version is just as good as Itsu 😁

Their thick cut steaks are pretty good too - we share them.

swimlyn · 07/09/2022 17:08

While there, just bear in mind that they treat their staff like shit.

TheEggChair · 07/09/2022 17:13

Egg custard tards
Chocolate éclairs
Bramley apple & fresh cream Victoria sponge cake
Actually the entire fresh cream cake section, I'm not fussy 😍

Keep your eyes peeled for red shelf edge stickers - I pick DS up from outside a M&S foodhall every wednesday at 5pm and always pop in for a peek to find reductions. Last week they had a lot of groceries reduced - must be lines that haven't sold well as they were nowhere near use by date. Big pack of granola reduced from £4 to £1.25, a jar of chocolate truffle sauce for about 80p, a jar of beef stock reduced from £3.50 to 84p and a few other things too.

Red stickers? Oh! They're yellow stickers in my local M&S stores!

The layered Mexican dip is the nicest thing in the world. I literally gauge on it every time it's in the house.

With some tortilla crisps.

RoseOud · 07/09/2022 17:26

Belgian chocolate chunk cookies.

In a box. Around £4 and absolutely delicious. I don't even like biscuits.

Cheese scones! Get em home and into the toaster and try not to eat all four in one sitting.

You don't toast them! We eat them mom the way to the car:)

BarbaraofSeville · 07/09/2022 17:26

@ItsJustLittleOlMe

They're two different things, one being red and the other yellow Smile

Red stickers are actually shelf labels, mostly in the non fridge stuff, like biscuits, jams, sauces etc. The price label on the shelf is red, and the item is reduced, usually due to it being discontinued. I've also had some great bargains from there, often for a quarter of the original price.

However, be careful. Ours is currently selling the 'cake in a pot' things for £3.50, reduced from £4. That still seems rather expensive to me for a small amount of cake that's looks like it's been scraped up off the floor and been rammed into a jar.

Yellow stickers are on fridge stuff. We all know what they are.

KassandraOfSparta · 07/09/2022 17:27

Red label / discontinued bargains - not many, but a couple.

jar of smoked paprika reduced to 30p from £1.50
jar of chocolate and cookie spread 62p
bar of their nice "Alpine Premium" chocolate for £1

Obi73 · 07/09/2022 17:30

Italian family dine in for £15
Dine for £12
3 x £10 meat offer
3 x £8
Frozen Frites/chips

We buy those from Lidl because they're less than half that price and they're nicer from there.

IggyAce · 07/09/2022 17:32

Mini Colin’s
giant pretzels
shortbread

Oh I see! I've never actually noticed these, I'll keep an eye out next time I'm there!

melmos · 07/09/2022 17:45

The bay Marlboro sauvignon blanc (considerably cheaper than Oyster bay and nicer imo), prawn Alfredo linguine(3 for £7 so get three!), fresh sourdough, french butter, sour cream and chive crinkle crisps. Plus some nice cheese for good measure. Perfect night in wish I had just come back from the super market!

FlibbertyGibbitt · 07/09/2022 17:45

Four cheese ravioli … yum

TheNoodlesIncident · 07/09/2022 17:46

The marmalades are fantastic - lemon and lime especially good but they're all lovely
They do a golden caramel spread stuff for on toast, can't recall the name but it's fabulous, similar to Caramac
There are some croquettes with cheese & ham and another with mushrooms, in the special European stuff, they're not cheap but oh my, they are worth it
The Jaffa cake copies are better than McVitie's, wall to wall jelly topping, so good
Cornish Cove cheese, the more mature the better
Iced and Spiced buns, those things are sublime
The garlic bread slices (not baguettes), the best garlic bread anywhere
Pork, chorizo and Manchego burgers (quick, before they stop doing summer BBQ stuff) and the Davidstow cheese coleslaw
The moussaka

There's loads more, we do our weekly shop in Markies with basic stuff from Asda. It's all so good...

Chargingup · 07/09/2022 17:48

The custard choux buns are like crack

SomethingFast · 07/09/2022 17:58

The mixed salted nuts in the blue tub.
Cola Colin the Caterpillar sweets
The veggie sushi is nice.
The cappuccino and the mint truffle chocolate bars
