What is the most beautiful place you've ever been?

  • country, region, city, town -

Just returned recently from Croatia, and we visited Rovinj. We've travelled a fair bit, but Rovinj is hands down the most beautiful little place I've ever been.

I need to ditch the kids with Granny and head back for a child free weekend of wine bars and little patios over the yacht-filled sea.

Stunning.

Anyone else have any places that just felt truly spectacular?

Guatemalan mountains (at dawn- hate early mornings but always with it)
The Masurian lakes
A little cove in Cornwall that I don't know the name of but will forever hold my heart.

Not a beautiful place as such but more of a beautiful site for me is the Acropolis in Athens all lit up at night in multi Colour brooding over the city .

Going through the mangroves in Costa Rica was very atmospheric with bird and animal sounds.
The river by Hahoe village in Korea. I MUST go back to that place one day.

Kilimanjaro, one of the camps partway up. I got up in the night to go to the loo and the stars took my breath away.

Closer to home, the Lake District. It's humbler than the more major mountain ranges but somehow gentler and more stunning. It's my favourite place in the world.

A lot of people say that about Portheras (the 'hidden' cove).

Dubrovnik. Saw it not long after the end of the war when it was still being rebuilt and repaired. Its beauty amongst the ravages of the war still haunts me to this day.

Riva del Garda in north of lake Garda, Italy. But going to rovinj next year, so I will see if that beats it!

Near misses are Lake Lugano in Switzerland/Italy, Krabi in Thailand and Connemara in Ireland

Much of California - the forests, the coastline, Yosemite.
Another nod to Central Park in thick snow.
Paxos - some parts are just stunning.

Bali, Indonesia
Swiss Alps

Harris, for somewhere in the U.K.

Luskentyre beach is on my bucket list.

DillDanding · 04/09/2022 22:48

So hard to choose one!

I’d say a toss up between the Cook Islands or French Polynesia.

HundredMilesAnHour · 04/09/2022 22:48

Yosemite in winter

Great thread ,OP!

Im just back from Norway, a cruise of the fjords. Stunning. They have a quiet majesty to them, and everything seems so clean and calm. Even the towns seem calm and quiet, as if all the sounds have been dampened.

I also have Mallorca as my happy place. We have a studio apartment in a tacky resort (still quite fun) but just minutes away there is such beauty. We know the best secret beaches!

Starlightstarbright1 · 04/09/2022 22:49

Iceland

TarasChoc · 04/09/2022 22:49

The wild Atlantic way and keem beach both in Ireland.
The Royal Mile and surrounds in Edinburgh, something really magical about that place.

Vargas · 04/09/2022 22:49

British Columbia and the Pelopponese.

But also bits of Cornwall and Yorkshire...
