Loads of people on here just not getting the point of this thread.

Correct! It’s a very interesting idea. Going to think…

Hand me down clothes.

Having your families old furniture given to you.

Being foreign.

Best MN thread in ages @Justanotherwinter

Swearing

Super cool with a plummy voice
considered crass and uneducated without

viques · 02/09/2022 14:15

Have we had big weddings yet?

WiddlinDiddlin · 02/09/2022 14:16

Driving a battered old estate car with a good layer of dog hair and filth in the back..

No ambition to do anything but what ones parents did...

Loads of dogs everywhere...

Living in a property that is falling apart (though if you're super posh you own it and if you're chavvy you rent it)...

I have lived on council estates (I still do!), I also have friends with 20 bedroom crumbling mansions, bank with very exclusive banks, have titles etc. There is so much cross-over!

Seriously bad taste this thead

No offence but you have clearly very much misunderstood and misread the purpose of this thread.

Drunk kids rampaging at the seaside , Rock versus Margate.

Brillant · 02/09/2022 14:17

I always envies both chavs and toffs. Being MC brings so much angst, but most chavs and toff I know don't give a fuck and do whatever they want.

Thepeopleversuswork · 02/09/2022 14:19

Multiple children
Worklessness
Racism/political incorrectness
Lack of interest in education or "self-improvement" (see the Royal Family)
Horse racing
Scruffy clothes

All of the above are routine and tolerated for the underclass and upper class but totally unacceptable for middle classes

Leaving your kids in a hotel room while you go for a meal.

This is gold

How would speaking a second language ever be seen as "chavvy"?

Probably not chavvy per se, but looked down upon and judged.

antelopevalley · 02/09/2022 14:19

Inviting lots of people to a wedding and not feeding them properly.
I have seen various positive accounts on MN of upper-class weddings in gorgeous venues, with only alcohol and canapes provided. Poor people doing this are accused of spending money to make a wedding instagramable and ignoring the comfort of their guests.

I've stopped trying to be MC or keep up with MC appearances. I don't give a shit and it's honestly refreshing. I'd rather be chav over MC.

PoppyVioletIris · 02/09/2022 14:20

Not making children do homework (Rich you are concerned about your child's health, poor you don't care about your child's education)

Taking children out in term time for holidays. (Rich you are broadening their life experiences, poor you just want a cheap holiday)

Not having the right uniform (Rich you are being environmentally friendly/economical. Poor you've probably spent the money on drugs)

Uniform being a bit tight/small (As above)

This one is really confusing me too.

The second language thing works better in an American context, which is where the original meme is from.
