I am weird but I love this time of year. Things I look forward to are..
• chunky knits
• nice boots
• that feeling when your freezing and you walk into a warm building
• buying nice candles
• settling down with the kids on a sat night to watch a movie with treats ( normally they play out till Bath/bed time in summer)

I'm sure there's more.

What's yours ?

I love the autumn and it’s when my birthday is. Reading this thread that seems quite common! I wonder if there’s a correlation between favourite seasons and when people are born

TeaAddict235 · 01/09/2022 22:16

Making a lamb and rosemary casserole on an autumnal eve

Having pear /apple crumble and custard (with own harvested fruits or ones gathered from the library & museum gardens with permission)

Wearing skirts and tights and a blazer

Clip clopping down the street in nice shoes

Wrapping up on the sofa

Not having to go out on the weekend

Letting the garden have a rest and watching the birds turn leaves over

Wearing woollen jumpers

JohnsShirt · 01/09/2022 22:22

Watching Strictly on a Saturday night.
That's it, I hate autumn/winter.

SirChenjins · 01/09/2022 22:28

Even Strictly looks a bit rubbish this year (apart from the fab Ellie Simmonds obviously)

Smellywellyhoo · 01/09/2022 22:29

Nothing. Hate winter.

QueenofDestruction · 01/09/2022 22:33

Nothing, its nothing but dying plants and the return of dark nights and bad weather. The only bright light us that summer eventually returns.

Vicliz24 · 01/09/2022 20:14

Nothing at all I'm afraid. Totally Spring/ Summer lover .

This. I can't abide anything about autumn. It is just death and decay, and life shutting down.

….and being turned into casseroles

Champagneforeveryone · 01/09/2022 22:53

Leaves, crispy crunchy leaves
Log fires
Cosy jumpers and blankets
That time when it's dark and you're indoors and it's all so cosy and warm as you pull the curtains
fewer tourists

I'm fortunate that I love all the seasons pretty much equally so always have something to look forward to 🙂

PinkRiceKrispies · 01/09/2022 22:56
  1. That first chill in the air
  2. Nights drawing in
  3. Wrapping up warm in big jumpers
  4. Hot chocolate
  5. Warming up in bed when it's really cold
I love this time of year.
FiveDollarMilkshake · 01/09/2022 22:57

Everything. Everything. Everything.

the best season of all

shedwithivy · 01/09/2022 22:59

New series of death in paradise when our weather gets a bit pants

froufroulala · 01/09/2022 23:14

Would normally look forward to the changing colours of my many acers. This year however they are burnt to a crisp although recovering. That's about it !

backwhiteandredallover · 01/09/2022 23:19

Conkers... used to love taking the kids out looking for conkers and beautiful autumn leaves. Little rosy faces and a hot chocolate when we got home.

Duffle coats... buying lovely new coats for the kids.

Boots

Slow cooked meals after a hard day at work.

Crunchy leaves and crunchy frost... love it.

Darker nights and bonfire night.

Halloween crafts and the run up to Christmas.

I my classes start back on Tuesday, I am almost at the end of an associates degree, after many attempts trying. Also, pumpkin spice latte.

AllLopsided · 01/09/2022 23:34

I am looking forward to it not being over 30 degrees every single bloody day!

I like September and October because there is usually plenty of sunny weather and warm days without being sweltering. Not so keen on November and December as typically a bit damp and foggy (the only months of the year that remind me of the U.K.!). And I don't like the long dark evenings.

We usually holiday in September though not sure if we'll manage to get away this year.

Looking forward to lighting the fire for the first time.

Enjoying hot food rather than it being a trial to cook because it's so hot.

Hopefully no more noisy gardening by each neighbour in turn Hmm

Wearing my scarf collection and autumnal perfume.

Apple crumble!

Seeing the trees changing colour (live on the edge of a national park) and the first snow on the mountain behind us.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 01/09/2022 23:37

Literally fuck all.

First poster nails it.

ladygindiva · 01/09/2022 23:45

I love autumn
Chunky socks and tights
Putting the fire on
Lovely boots
All our birthdays ( me, dp and 2dc)
Bonfire night
Halloween
It's brilliant, kicks summers ass

Doghairismyglitter · 02/09/2022 00:22

Do you think which season you love correlates to if you are an introvert or extrovert?

I’m a huge huge introvert and countdown for autumn, my absolute favourite time of year and my mood lifts massively come 1st September, adore everything about it. I wonder if that’s because life becomes quieter and more insular and family based, less people/constant small talk to make, more nature and animals, which suits my introverted personality more?

For example, a PP mentioned a reason they don’t like autumn is because they never see their neighbours, that sounds like heaven to me 🫢😅

mackthepony · 02/09/2022 00:29

Jet planes meeting in the air to be refuelled.

^

This! I swear my love of autumn comes from that song! The smell of bacon as I fasten up my laces...

TabithaTittlemouse · 02/09/2022 06:27

@Doghairismyglitter most definitely!

RampantIvy · 02/09/2022 06:40

Shitzngiggles · 01/09/2022 20:54

@SirChenjins I'm so with you on every single word. I've never understood why everyone goes on about lovely crisp mornings blah, blah, blah. That's very rarely the reality.

no amount of sitting under a blanket under electric lights watching the sleet batter down with a hot choc makes up for these months. We’re far more likely to have damp, miserable days than crisp sunny ones here.

Same here. I prefer wearing summer clothes to being bundled up and restricted by several layers.

The mumsnet obsession of hot chocolate, cosy, snuggling and candles can do one. It all sounds so claustrophobic.

The theory that autumn born people love autumn is nonsense. I love a crisp sutumn or winter day but they are as rare as hen's teeth.

So in answer to the OP - nothing

Footbal · 02/09/2022 06:43

Hate Autumn,my least favourite season.

Onebreathmore · 02/09/2022 06:49

Autumn is my favorite season! I prefer Autumn and winter to summer and Spring.

Autumn just has an energy in the air that makes me feel alive. I love it. Love the colors.

I genuinely like grey, drizzly days. I love running in it. I especially love a short local run in a heavy downpour! I like experiencing the world in its different garbs.

Happiness dependent on sunshine is no way to life life. There is so much more life beyond this limitation.

Winterlove · 02/09/2022 06:50

I was just saying today that autumn is my favourite season to dress for. I love chunky knits, coats, boots in nice colours like browns and greens.

Granted the weather isn’t always great but I do love the rainy days when you’re at home all cosy. I also love the crisp sunny sun days when we get one.

Although the nights are dark, it’s a time for candles and eventually fairy lights.

I love the food too - soups, warm salads, stews.

Oh and strictly is back on tv!

I do love the summer and the sun but I always enjoy autumn. I’m also a home bird anyway so it’s nice to spent a bit more time in the place I love.
