For an 8yo who helpfully loves arts and crafts.

Received a snide comment about my home at a family bbq and wish to discreetly send the giver my fondest regards whilst winning their child’s affections!

@GoAround ‘With the sand art kit, it's as easy as peel, sprinkle, & spread!’ <<laughs maniacally

OP. I laughed out loudly at this, I LIKE your style.

i send my very proper and anally retentive SIL a plasticine make your own model poo kit for her clumsy preschooler (available from The Works). I believed the little one managed to tread brown plasticine into every corner of the immaculate beige living room.

In my defence it was Vengeance for a make your own music hamper she sent: beautiful wooden hand crafted basket containing delights such as a recorder, whistle, drum, maracas and tambourine. And she KNOWS I suffer from excruciating migraines.

she reverted to Vouchers thereafter thank fuck.

ReluctantCourier · 30/08/2022 19:03

@RosieRoww yes! Even if there is something under they just bloody move. She surely won’t do the kitchen up like she’s gonna do a gangland murder in it

The worst I've encountered is a make your own slime kit. Bloody awful stuff. Any gifts like that are now passed on or binned.

SignOnTheWindow · 30/08/2022 19:05

The Zimply Kids mega play pack has 12 sachets of hell in it, including magic snow, Gelli baff, crackle Bath and slime...

FourTeaFallOut · 30/08/2022 19:08

Kinetic sand, made a bloody mess and then it killed the hoover.

RoseMartha · 30/08/2022 19:09

Moon sand
Sand art picture
Anything that involved glitter
Gingerbread man kit

Thehobbit2013 · 30/08/2022 19:20

Bath bomb making kit. Make a mess everywhere when making them. Make a mess of your bath when using them

CallmeMrsPricklepants · 30/08/2022 19:24

Yes to the jelli bath stuff, my in-laws had to take out all the plumbing because it clogged it up

ditalini · 30/08/2022 19:29

Bath crayons were the most permanent - fine on the sides of the bath and tiles buy dc coloured in all the grouting and that never fully came off 😖

Moon Sand gets an honorable mention, but the slime stuff is responsible for a bright green dinner plate sized permanent stain in the middle of ds2s carpet 🏆

porkandbeans · 30/08/2022 19:34

Another vote for the jelli bath stuff. My kids went in the bath together and had the biggest argument as it was so slippy. Then I spent ages cleaning them and the bath up. We bought two packs and I just binned the other one. I never do this!

Moon sand never made it into the house but made a mess in my SIL house. Less a residue all over her kitchen that she couldn't remove even with bleach

ItsJustLittleOlMe · 30/08/2022 19:35

Cheeky sod. Look her square in the eye and ask "why would we need to clean, is our house dirty?".

Greenkitten · 30/08/2022 19:42

Tie dye kit. It was on the table, the floor, the sink, the taps, the light switch, the walls every where! And they wear the resulting fashions afterwards! ( which run if you don’t wash them separately btw)

Discovereads · 30/08/2022 19:46

junebirthdaygirl · 30/08/2022 18:26

A box with about a 1000 different coloured beads especially one where everything spills out every time you open it!!

That was my #1 too. It was this awful jewelry kit with thousands of tiny beads, the kind that hurt worse than Lego when you step on them but are too small to see when hoovering until it’s too late.

itsgettingweird · 30/08/2022 19:49

If you want something fun but subtle get various pots of differing colours of therapy putty.

That stuff gets all over stuff and everywhere in ways the innocent little pots of colour would never in a million years indicate.

ReluctantCourier · 30/08/2022 19:51

@ditalini thankyou for sharing your battle scars

@ItsJustLittleOlMe its DH’s family not mine and she makes small comments infrequently- the deep clean ones to be fair could have been interpreted either way bcs there were some original tiles which we were 50/50 either to restore or duplicate as they had mortar adhered/stains etc but also could have been about the hall in general- she treads a fine line v archly!

I can't offer any help really but there's a fair few kids science experiments that might cause lots of mess.
I absolutely love how passive aggressive this is and that everyone commenting is getting onboard!
My sister and I do this to each other on purpose but with the loudest toys we can find. She's been waiting for the day I had a kid for over 10 years so she could pay me back for the delightful toys I bought her kids.

doubledeckerdreamer · 30/08/2022 20:06

We have this set. You pour ink in and spin it to make patterns. It's still on our ceiling - we may also need a deep clean.

imsanehonest · 30/08/2022 20:22

A 500-piece craft set. Glitter, poms poms, stickers, sequins, everything ever invented to do with making tat was put in that damned bloody box. The person who gave it my daughter hated me 😆

ReluctantCourier · 30/08/2022 20:23

@edin16 I fully expected to get told I was a horrible person and was pleasantly surprised to get no questions asked suggestions 😂

God yes, the moon sand.

Also -
Pottery wheel. The ratio of clay to water is the crucial thing. Speed of the wheel matters too.

A kit of little jars which the DCs filled with layers of colored sand and the rest got everywhere.

Finger paint. You can't spell finger paint without PAIN, and the stuff I got didn't wash off clothing or anything else.

ReluctantCourier · 30/08/2022 20:24

@doubledeckerdreamer wow what did you do to deserve that?! Thankyou for sharing, perfect!

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 30/08/2022 20:24

YYY tonthe Twirl and Paint thing. Painter's tarp needed for that one.

Goldbar · 30/08/2022 20:25

Slime baff. I'm actually OK with Jelly baff as even undissolved our drains manage to cope with it but slime baff is something else. The stuff is toxic and indestructible. We used it outside and even the pressure attachment on the hose struggled to remove it from DC's plastic play table.

Glitter kits and playmais might fit the bill too.
