Stories I have seen kite flying are:-

  1. Absolutely nothing
  2. Reduce VAT
  3. Increase the £400 to £1000
  4. Temporary Nationalise
  5. Totally Nationalise ( currently discussed on LBC)
  6. Double child benefit for a month
  7. Incentives such as rewards for not using energy between 3-6.
  8. Discount on an average and full price for use over this.
  9. More cash to pensioners and those on UC

I am sure many more. All have their pros and cons.

What do you think?

She has just said she won't have a windfall tax on energy companies.

Make a lot of rich people richer while killing off the poorest through starvation and hypothermia.

Babyroobs don't you think pensioners deserve what they are getting? Most pensioners are on a fixed income, they have no way of increasing what they get, they can't work extra hours or get a second job. They are also likely to have higher bills as they are probably at home more than someone who is working & as they get older have health conditions that mean they need to be warmer. The same for anyone who is disabled or has a chronic health condition, they won't survive this winter unless something is done, we surely don't want to go back to the times when people were dying of hypothermia due to not being able to afford heating. I don't feel that giving money directly to the customer is the answer, energy companies need to be forced to reduce what they charge, heat, light & water are things that everyone needs, not a luxury.

None of the above, just make things a million times worse because that's what her party does.

#VoteLabour

oh so you recognise “her” as a woman then?

that’s more than what “vote Labour” will get you. As if they haven’t already been a pretty shitty opposition who have let down the working classes. Why would anyone vote for them? Please don’t attempt to answer that.

I agree with tiered usage electricity.
It would support green credentials and make people think more about their usage. There would have to be a pensioner based uplift and of course a medical exemption.

I have to say, I hear screeching from a lot of people I know "I can't afford heating" and yet leave lights on, run huge televisions and have the tumble dryer on all day.

I think this system encourages a sensible approach. Not a choice of heating or eating, but a choice of heating and being sensible or not being sensible and paying for it.

I hope she manages to find the magic money tree.

Mrscooper13 · 07/09/2022 09:38

She will probably do whatever she thinks will make them win the next election!

she won’t make the greedy energy companies accountable: other countries haven’t seen these increases. We have some horrible greedy people
