What do you think Truss will do?

Stories I have seen kite flying are:-

  1. Absolutely nothing
  2. Reduce VAT
  3. Increase the £400 to £1000
  4. Temporary Nationalise
  5. Totally Nationalise ( currently discussed on LBC)
  6. Double child benefit for a month
  7. Incentives such as rewards for not using energy between 3-6.
  8. Discount on an average and full price for use over this.
  9. More cash to pensioners and those on UC

I am sure many more. All have their pros and cons.

What do you think?

As I was saying... That has cost us a lot of money.

FourTeaFallOut · 29/08/2022 15:58

I think she has already said she won't have time for decorating 😁

I'm not sure about Truss and what she will make of her presumably now inevitable role of pm. But she definitely isn't a workshy layabout. So she has that on Boris, at least.

DoubleShotEspresso · 29/08/2022 15:59

More damage.

Simply that sadly

I think she'll make things worse, but obviously we'll take any extra help as we're going to need it. Ideally for us I'd chose 2 and 3.

Fanciedanamechange44 · 29/08/2022 16:05

Gurn when talking about cheese

fussychica · 29/08/2022 16:07

It's been mooted that she might raise the current tax thresholds which in my opinion would be sensible and help the low paid. I think if she does it it will be the higher tax level too which might not be seen as so good.

NoMichaelNo · 29/08/2022 16:09

I think she'll dither until the shit has hit the fan and anything she does from then won't be enough.

FourTeaFallOut · 29/08/2022 16:18

Dither? This is a woman who told people they were welcome to grab a backpack and head off to Ukraine to go and fight on a Sunday morning programme prompting a foreign office melt down and a political escalation between the UK and Russia.

I don't think dithering is the crucial liability around Truss.

FrippEnos · 29/08/2022 16:32

She will U turn on so many things so fast that she will drill a hole in the floor.

ScarlettnotOHara · 29/08/2022 16:39

I am worried she will make the situation with Russia a lot worse .

BeSmartWithMoney · 29/08/2022 16:49

While I'm usually in favour of tax cuts, I'm worried she will borrow money to fund tax cuts.
I'd like to see some kind of workfare system for people on benefits.

A lot of people who receive benefits do work.

LindyLou2020 · 29/08/2022 18:15

Do you mean Liz Truss as in Margaret Thatcher II?........
What do I think she will do? - don't know.
What I HOPE she will do, mind you, is be so unpopular that the Tories are thrashed at the next GE.........😠

lookthisway · 29/08/2022 18:16

Hasn't she already ruled out any more handouts and signalled that she favours VAT cuts?

Personally, I think she will just post more pictures of herself in what she considers to be power poses. I don't think she has the intellect or political will to sort out the crisis.

The problem is a supply issue so I would like to see all public buildings (that are suitable) have solar panels installed. And a scheme for houses to have them installed at cheap price or at cost.

Nachobutt · 29/08/2022 18:20

She has just pulled out of yet another interview. My guess is that the media advisors realised that if she opened her mouth or were questioned more robustly she'd fuck it up in an instant, so safer to keep her quiet until she's in place, after which she literally just has to point to black and said "no it's white" and there are still people who'd accept it.

TwinkleToesStrikesAgain · 29/08/2022 18:30

She's too busy to honour the 1:1 interview

I wonder if cobra mtgs will be on her priority list - maybe if there's a photo op with them?

She doesn't need a morals advisor - maybe if you know you don't have any you don't need to be told it?

She's going to piss off China, where diplomacy would probably be more impactful long term.

Has she mentioned how she's going to fill the 105,000 vacancies in the NHS? I think I've missed this one. Surely there's a photo op with her in a doctor's coat just waiting to happen?.

Tinkerblonde1 · 29/08/2022 22:59

Front page of the express is a headline about Truss and Tax cuts.

Make a total twit of herself and be ousted very quickly with a real risk that her replacement will be Bojo, which is, of course, why he’s supporting her candidacy.

Ragged · 30/08/2022 06:43

Truss govt will borrow hugely to fund tax cuts, getting national deficit & debt to soar even more. I keep reading on MN that govt could double national debt without causing even a tiny bit of economic harm, so heyho, that will happen. There will also be some additional targetted support for low income households, for food & energy bills.

Why can't there be a system where the first X-many units of electricity or gas you use each month is at a lower tariff, to incentivise energy conservation, with increasing price bands for energy use beyond that each month. Imagine 3 price bands. Why wouldn't this be practical?

70billionthnamechange · 30/08/2022 06:46

Not sure but small hospitality businesses need help too (and other industries, im just relating to mine right now) or we are fucked

Well, because it screws multi-generational households and those with disabilities which require energy hungry accessibility appliances, off the top of my head.

abitunsureaboutthis · 30/08/2022 07:01

With her nonsensical bluster probably accidentally blunder us into a direct confrontation with Russia. She adopted a very hawkish position as foreign minister to appear tough and Thatcher-like, which I thought was very uncomfortable. Yes, by all means supply Ukraine, but Truss was properly pissing Russia off with her statements. I hope she mellows a bit as PM and becomes a bit more sensible. She seemed like a loose cannon 'playing' at being a senior stateswoman.
