What do I need in Ikea tomorrow?

I'm off to Ikea with a mate tomorrow, (she needs to pick up something). I already have a small shopping list but please help me with anything you think I might just need to chuck in my blue bag ...

  • Different size zip lock bags
  • Couple of pot plants for my desk at work
  • Laundry basket (£3 one, fits into gap in PAX wardrobe)
  • Big zip up bag (like the blue ones but a clear one, great for moving laundry from the machine to the washing line and back)
  • A big curtain for by the front door for the winter
  • Gingerbread biscuits

I'm fine for tealight candles, have no room in the freezer for meatballs, I don't really do picture frames and have plenty of cushions and blankets. What other useful stuff have you found there recently that I might need or have you found anything that looks particularly useful for the upcoming winter of doom? Thanks in advance :)

Stick on spotlights for underneath kitchen units, bath mats, solar powered lights, tiny frying pan, new pillows

PinkButtercups · 23/08/2022 22:43

Don't worry Ikea tells you what you need.

Freezer bag clips

Definitely;no more loose peas rolling around the bottom of my freezer drawers.

What’s a soctopus?!
if you’re going I could send you dd’s uni list 😂 she wants to go next week, I don’t really but I remember the lure of the mini dime bars…

RainingYetAgain · 23/08/2022 22:57

Those plugs which let you charge 3 phones/Tablets etc at once. Also they do good metal water bottles. Their batteries are fine too. I suppose its too early for those battery tea lights that I use in the Christmas decs?
Thanks for the discount code-with the 4% off vouchers through the Social Club scheme that's a real bonus- DS needs a sofa bed.

Oh, and ds saw this advertised somewhere and might like one for his birthday so if you wouldn’t mind… 😂
I think it’s a sound activated light box thing?

One of the techy guys on YouTube did a review of this one, he said it was naff for the price and not worth more than a £5

Hello Ikea marketing team who i expect are on this thread. While I've got your attention, please can you make the screws for the besta cabinet out of something stronger, they are shoddy as hell and I stripped every single one trying to screw them in, had to brute force them in with pliers. trying to put it together almost broke me. last time i buy a flat pack from you!

JackieCollinshasnoauthority · 23/08/2022 23:53

I'm going to the Cardiff one tomorrow and intend to raid the markethall like a soft furnishing Viking.

The lingonberry sauce, we go through jars of the stuff!!

GrumpyPanda · 24/08/2022 00:18

Mortar and pestle. They have a really good decently sized one for a price you'd pay elsewhere for a miniature set.

RedToothBrush · 24/08/2022 00:18

I challenge you all to the ikea challenge : what is the quickest time you can enter the building , make a furniture purchase, pay and exit the building in? Clock starts when you go in the doors and ends when you exit doors.

My record is 9 minutes for a set of Billy bookcases. ( proud )

This challenge helps me from needlessly spending money I don't have on crap in there.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 24/08/2022 00:28

@thesnailandthewhale which one are you going to?

I used to live in Oxted, so soent have my life in the Croydon one!

my nearest is Reading now, but might travel further to look at some sofas , daybed & cabinets which Reading don't appear to have stock of.

I had to order a cushion for a specific chair today, but had to get it from eBay for £40, not ikeas for £20 as it's only in stock at a couple in a couple of stores & not available for home delivery <sulk>

I didn't time myself but it must have been super quick - I went in, picked up only a set of legs for an antilop highchair, and left without looking at or buying anything else.

Though ... for full disclosure I had been in the day before and spent a ridiculous amount of time and money. When loading the car my mum left the bloody chair legs in the bottom of the trolley and we didn't notice until we got home so I had to race back the next day to buy some more 🤦🏻‍♀️

Billy Bookcase

Billie9844 · 24/08/2022 01:23

Stam Kitchen Timer (if in stock), costs £1.25 just now and lasts forever. (well a few years so far)

Bilar marshmallow sweets - Probably not for everyone but I flipping love them!

I like their garlic press as well

StaunchMomma · 24/08/2022 02:27

If they still have the truly enormous square wooden boards for a tenner they're amazing and you can fit soooooooo much on them when doing eg a cheese board.

I'm also a big fan of their £1 thin white crockery set - I always grab a couple of plates and bowls to replace broken ones.

I also fill up on zip-lock bags, plus napkins, batteries and a roll of plain brown paper if they have it (great for impromptu wrapping paper if you're the type to forget you need it often - especially if you have a few sharpies and the time to draw on it!).

Oh, and Daim cake. No need to freeze, just feckin eat it!! Along with lots of sandwiches with that sexy dill mustard they do!

How?!

vimtokisses · 24/08/2022 07:38

You should always make room for Ikea meatballs.

KittyCatsby · 24/08/2022 07:44

I think I'll not be welcome in here. Never visited an Ikea Want to try one now.

GreyCarpet · 24/08/2022 07:46

Those little metal lanterns for tea lights with the stars cut out at the top.

Can never have too many of those and they survive really well in the garden.

RayneDance · 24/08/2022 07:48

A pack of different size drawers organiserz eg pants, socks....can be used in drawers and cupboards.
