Songs that give you shivers

In a reflective/contemplative mood and would like some music to match...

Currently listening to The Night We Met by Lord Huron on repeat and it is suitably giving me the feels.

Appreciate that some songs will have individual emotional associations, but what are your favourite haunting songs that transcend that and give you shivers regardless?

Ooh and calling my children home by Emmylou Harris!

Crayfishforyou · 20/08/2022 22:30

@NiqueNique no, but I will now!

Ochman - River

I also like the song - House of no regrets by Ennio Morricone and Katherine Jenkins.

Wow lots of amazing choices in this thread!
I’ll throw in “The One” by kodaline and Judy Colin’s version of “Bread and Roses.”

ValerieDoonican · 20/08/2022 23:24

This song, it translates as "What have we done" (to deserve this?) a song asking why the African population was treated so terribly in South Africa. Haunting.

I also love the old national anthem Nkosi Sikelele

Agree x

And someone mentioned Wichita Lineman - not haunting exactly but I always find it deeply touching for some reason.

FlemCandango · 21/08/2022 08:26

Song to the Siren has been mentioned but lately I actually prefer the original version by Tim Buckley. I love This Mortal Coil as well.

Jeff Buckley 'Lover you should've come over'

Massive Attack (featuring Tracey Thorn) - Protection.

Under Pressure by Queen and David Bowie.

It just gives me goosebumps. Always has.

Queen - I want to break free is brilliant and I fucking love the video!

I'm pretty sure most women have felt like this at some point.

Dalint · 21/08/2022 11:49

I'm pretty sure that I recall it being utterly frowned upon back in my day!

Dalint · 21/08/2022 11:59

I'm really showing my age now, but I used to cry at this one by Dolly Parton. It's a true story apparently.

And this is so country hick (yes, I'm one). But I love it as I adored my father. There was nobody in the world that I loved more. It's a little story really. He brings her to a baseball game and ends up having to play dolls with her. My Dad was like that with me. He indulged me no end.

Dalint · 21/08/2022 12:03

I know the Daddy's girl song is probably frowned upon now with us all being gender neutral, but I was that little girl. He'd watch horseracing and I'd start to cry if a horse fell over during a race. He also loved rugby and boxing and I'd start to cry if someone got injured (even if they weren't the ones I should have been supporting). Clearly I was an emotional child lol
I have inherited his love of rugby and boxing though! Horseracing not so much as I still cry if a horse falls. 😥

Wilburisagirl · 21/08/2022 21:49

Disturbed's version of The Sound of Silence gives me good shivers and makes me tear up every time.

My Grandfathers Clock.

If tomorow never comes. Ronan Keating (Again I've got tears in my eyes)
Runway Train (Soul asylum)
On my own.Patti Labelle and Michael McDonald.
Do they know its Christmas.Band Aid (particularly where it says (Well tonight thank God its them instead of you)

I'm sure I'll think of a lot more.

same here, do they know its Christmas time song is just...urgh...the lyrics are so backwards and ignorant
