DD - Yes but not in the top 50
DS - Nope but it surprises me as it's definitely not usual.

Huh?

It's Friday night, they're obviously drunk.

Wouldloveanother · 19/08/2022 23:59

@RooniIWazlib lol

spiderlight · 20/08/2022 00:04

Mine was one of only six uses of his name in the year he was born, according to ONS data, so I can safely say it's nowhere near the top 100! He's 15 now and we've only ever met two others with the same name.

Not even close

DD1 no- I think it's a classic name and was very popular when I was growing up but not anymore. I still love it though. She insists on using the full version too.
DD2- Yes a very common name.

romdowa · 20/08/2022 06:08

No , there were only 8 other children registered with my ds name last year. So it's a very unusual name.

GreyNovember · 20/08/2022 06:17

Yes, both DDs have names in the top 100. Both are names that have been consistently around the top 50 mark according to this www.ons.gov.uk/visualisations/dvc363/babyindex.html
My name has never been in the top 100 and I've never had strong feelings either way about giving DDs a popular or uncommon name.

webuiltthiscityonrockandwheat · 20/08/2022 06:57

DS's name is probably in the top 500. DD's is in the top 5000 I think 😆 I'll be furious if either of them have another in their classic, put it like that!

autienotnaughty · 20/08/2022 07:36

Dd1 is in top 10 and has been for about 20 years
Dd2 was in top 10 not now
Ds was in top 10 but not now.

All in top 100.

When I picked both dd names I didn't realise they were popular. With ds I knew but I loved the name

twomumsonebump · 20/08/2022 07:39

DD's name is in the high 500s.

SummerLobelia · 20/08/2022 08:07

DS1 - no. Not even top 150.
DS2 - yes Top 10 and has been for at least 12 years.

Secondchildregret · 20/08/2022 08:10

Yes.
ds1 is top 3
ds2 is top 50

AliasGrape · 20/08/2022 08:14

Yes, bottom end of top 100 for the last couple of years - although I haven’t checked stats since I was pregnant so don’t know where it is now - I’ve been hearing it a bit more so maybe it’s more popular, or maybe I just notice it more because I have one?

We’d have picked it whether it was top 10 or out of the top 1000 to be honest, it was my favourite anyway and then when we saw her knew she just couldn’t have been anything else.

RadFad · 20/08/2022 08:15

DC1 top 50
DC2 no

TempsPerdu · 20/08/2022 08:20

DD’s name was in the low 600s, falling to the 800s last year. 60 others born with her name that year.

Thecomfortador · 20/08/2022 08:23

Both of mine were I think in the top 30 in the years they were born. I'm surprised that I haven't come across another ds1 named child - must be the area we're in. Ds2 has a name you hear other parents calling fairly often in playgrounds etc.

SquigglePigs · 20/08/2022 08:30

DD's name is at the tail end of the top 100 but the abbreviation we more commonly use is just outside the top 50.

AntlerRose · 20/08/2022 08:35

yes mine are both very popular.
One is top 20 when he was born and the other number 10 the year he was born.

The second is more faddy which bothers me more than popularity as it surged quickly. Its going to be the stacey or gary of the future. The other is just consistently poular forever.

The first only had someone in his class with the same name at secondary and the other didnt have someone with the same name yet, but we know more of them in general.

DappledThings · 20/08/2022 08:36

DS is low 200s, DD bobs in and out of the top 100.

names.darkgreener.com/ is the best way to see for those asking.

ReginaFilange001 · 20/08/2022 08:53

DD has a name out of the top 100 it probably sits in the 100-200 area. Probably around 150-200 babies born with that name.

There are two of the same name in her class. What are the chances? There is only one Amelia, Evie, Poppy, Olivia which were all top 5 when she was born.

Hidingawaytoday · 20/08/2022 09:14

Yes, only one DC and it's in the top 10 (though the position number for last year varies depending on the website). I don't mind though, I love the name.

basilmint · 20/08/2022 09:18

Both top 10. I grew up with an uncommon name and hated feeling singled out so I deliberately went with quite popular ones, although they weren't top 10 at the time. Both DC like their names and have never been concerned by their popularity. There are so many different names chosen now that wven the most popular ones aren't that common, unlike the ubiquitous ones of my 70s/80s childhood.

MrsLJ2014 · 20/08/2022 09:21

Nope, DS'a name not in top 100 and I don't think in top 1000 when I last looked.
He's the only one with his name in his school and at all his clubs.
Only ever taught one child with the same name as him in over 20 years (and yes, that child inspired my name choice!)
His name is a classic, in my opinion, but so rarely used. Hardly ever gets mentioned on here either!!

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 20/08/2022 09:22

DS is 1989
DD1 - name is at 0 which threw me a bit because obviously there’s at least one 😂 When I read through, it said it doesn’t register is there’s only one or two.
DD2 - 1996

Though we didn’t set out to find unusual names, clearly the names we’ve chosen are not that known or remotely popular!

Smallorangecat · 20/08/2022 09:26

DC1 was 1 of 3 babies given that name that year. I think it’s been similar since. It’s a Welsh name and we aren’t in Wales but the others probably are.
DC2, wasn’t at the time and I don’t think it is now but it has become more popular in the last few years.
