DD - Yes but not in the top 50
DS - Nope but it surprises me as it's definitely not usual.

My daughters name ranks 1431. And my son's is 140. Both have gained in popularity in the last few years. They have attended three schools altogether and no one in all of the schools has had either name.
They are not weird or unusual just uncommon.

Wouldloveanother · 19/08/2022 22:13

Yep. It confuses me when people panic about giving their kid a name that will ‘date’. It’s like, when your kid is 50, people will take one look at them and know their age anyway, so what does the name matter.

jmh740 · 19/08/2022 22:15

Dds name was top 5 when she was born just scrapes in to top 50 now she is 15, eldest name was top 10 when they were born in 1994 not even in top 100 now. Youngest sons name is more common in Wales than England its not in the top 100 although I worked in youngest 2s primary school and there were 3 boys with ds unusual name and only 2 girls with dds top 10 name

Too 50 here. I’m fine with it, it’s popular for a reason.

Ragwort · 19/08/2022 22:18

Yes - in the top 10 boys names (& in the top 5 dog's names Grin) interestingly he never met anyone with the same name throughout primary and secondary school but now at uni his best mate has the same name !

MojoJojo71 · 19/08/2022 22:19

DS’s name is just outside top 20 and always hovers about there. It’s a classic name that I’ve always loved.

DD’s is just within the top 100, used to be more popular but has fallen out of use a bit, I don’t know any others under 40

GoAround · 19/08/2022 22:19

DS is around top 50 but there are 2 variant spellings so its no doubt more popular when taking that into account. DD is well well outside the top 100 but is definitely a name you would have heard of.

JenniferBarkley · 19/08/2022 22:20

We're in NI, there has never been three babies with DD2's name born here.

There's another one in our town, same age, may well end up at same school. There's no winning!

scrivette · 19/08/2022 22:22

DS1 - just outside of top 100
DS2 - about 500
DD - hasn't made it into the ONS listing since the year she was born when there were 3 of them

SockQueen · 19/08/2022 22:22

Both my DSs names are in the top 100. DS1's has fallen a bit; DS2's actual name is quite low down but his abbreviated form is very popular.

My name was in the top 10 in the 80s but now barely makes the top 500, I think - so it will date but there's not a lot I can do about it! I think my kids' ones are less likely to drop completely out of fashion

Flubadubba · 19/08/2022 22:25

DD's name didn't even make the top 300 the year she was born. Just scraped the top 250 in the latest set of stats.

HopelesslyHopeful87 · 19/08/2022 22:25

In age order

DD yes now but wasn't when we chose it 14 years ago
DS yes now but not 11 years ago
DD nope not even top 2000
DS no, more than 1000

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 19/08/2022 22:26

DD - no
DS - just within top 100

MyBrilliantFriend · 19/08/2022 22:28

Both DD’s and DS’s names have grown in popularity since we chose them but both still outside the top 100. They are still names everyone knows / has heard before though.

ladygindiva · 19/08/2022 22:32

DD1 no, not even top 900 apparently .
Dd2 and Dd3 yes, top 20 both.
Interestingly DD1 was the only one with another in her class!

purpleme12 · 19/08/2022 22:34

How do you check where the name is at the moment?

LookdeepintotheParka · 19/08/2022 22:36

Neither in top 100 - my DS name is very rarely used but there are now 2 girls with DD's name in her school.

I love that my DC names are still 'unfashionable'. My name suddenly got quite popular for girls a few years ago and it irrationally upset me 😂

Ravenblack1 · 19/08/2022 22:37

No idea. I couldn't care less.

SeasonsOfLife · 19/08/2022 22:41

Ds is 261
Dd is 320

I love them having names that aren't really popular.

SunsetOverEasterIsland · 19/08/2022 22:55

DS - close to 3000th but it's a name most people would recognise.

BogRollBOGOF · 19/08/2022 23:00

One was #124 the year he was born, the other was #8. There's been little difference in peers of the same in the same setting between them. There's been a couple of others in the school but not the same class.

They fall into the category of names that don't date heavily.

FreezyFreezy · 19/08/2022 23:10

Dc1's name was ranked no. 3 and dc2's name was ranked at no. 16 their birth years. Both v popular names. Both hated on here!

Pugsley87 · 19/08/2022 23:23

Neither child in top 40. Firstly as we both had "plan/classic names" (ie 4 in small class groups) but also to reflect that with the passage of time we could reclaim routes away from the need to anglicise names

imnotthatkindofmum · 19/08/2022 23:48

None of my 3 DDs are in the top 100. They're not odd names but classics, just uncommon. I chose them that way on purpose as I'm a teacher and I don't want to have any negative associations with my kids names!

Interestingly a nickname of one of my girls is in the top 100 which I would have said was more unusual that my other 2 DDs actual names.

My middle and youngest names have been top 100 in their lifetimes (13 and 8) but not consistently year on year.
