What year is your car?

Curiosity question. Mine is 2005 and I'm just starting to feel anxious that it's completely on its last legs - how old is seen as 'very old' now (from someone who knows literally f* all about cars?)

OP posts:

2019 & 2022, and our 17 year old has a 2010.

Devotedcatslave · 19/08/2022 20:47

2002, still going well and only about 100k miles on the clock. Love my car and hoping it will last me another few years.

Duettino · 19/08/2022 20:47

Used to lease cars. Can't justify the cost anymore. I now buy cars that could last forever if I decided to for as much as it cost me to rent for 2/3 years. Except they never last forever because I change my mind.

DP had a 2005 old faithful that just never seemed to die. It could have passed its last MOT but would have cost as much as the car and as he had it so long decided to change. He got a 2011 and it's fabulous. Like driving a floating cloud. I have a 2015 which isn't as good as his but is almost twice the price. I'm hoping this one will last me a long time...

If you like the car, keep it as long as you want. It's more about build quality and reliability than anything else.

Hyundai i10, 42000 miles, 61 plate. Love her, she’s called Olivia.

I’m amazed at how many new cars people have? How do you afford it!?

A bit of a weird question, most people buy them with money they earn from working. 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

chickma · 19/08/2022 20:53
  1. About 80k miles. Still lots of life left in it, and I love it! But starting to cost us money too often, so time to move on.
Atmywitsend29 · 19/08/2022 20:54

Oh, and DH has a K reg classic car. Which I think is 1991? older than I am

DH had a terminal diagnosis so he cashed in a pension and bought a car with some of the money. I'd much rather he'd not been in that position but there we are.

  1. I wasn’t going to bother with a new one as I was happy with my 2017 one and had bought it at the end of the term in 2020 but due to lockdown followed by Mat leave it had very low mileage and so the dealer contacted me as they were on the lookout for really good second hand cars with them being so in demand and they gave me a price I really couldn’t refuse meaning I have my brand new one for £130 a month and the amount they gave me is almost the buy it at the end of the lease price, so it seemed daft not to. I was super lucky really.

Is the K at the front or back if its at the back it'll be early 70s

Longdistance · 19/08/2022 20:59

Current car is a 2018. Most of my cars are bought brand new with HP or cash. It keeps the car bills down. I had a second hand car as a first car and it was in and out the garage like a yo-yo. Fuck that!
My car only has 23k miles on the clock after 4 years from brand new.

been and done it. · 19/08/2022 21:03

2008 Peugeot Cc low mileage...worst car I've ever had for user friendliness but I love it and feel safe in it.

Titsflyingsouth · 19/08/2022 21:03

2014 and our family car is 2010.

Hoping the family car can hold on another two years until we've finished some essential work on the house....

OwlInBoots · 19/08/2022 21:04

@MyneighbourisTotoro what a weird question - different people have different budgets.

I have a 2021 mini which I bought in feb to replace a 2018 mini. I got more on part exchange for my 2018 mini than it cost me when I bought it - so the market is mad right now

I'll keep my new one for 3 years I should think

Comedycook · 19/08/2022 21:07

2012

Just sold our 2001 car....it was a brilliant car even though it was twenty years old. Totally reliable.

Hallmark1234 · 19/08/2022 21:13

2006 and is still in brilliant condition at 16 years old

My very first car was 13 years old, a 1964 Mini, but it was a wreck! Much better build quality these days

Vitaminstrels · 19/08/2022 21:17

Mine is 2009 and has not caused me much bother over the years. If it isn't broke why change it and I would need to win the lottery for a new car.

BelfastSmile · 19/08/2022 21:22

2005, so it's getting on a bit, but only 90000 miles on the clock, and no issues getting through MOT, so I've no plans to change it. I had my previous car until it was 18, and it was still going fairly well - the engine was fine but the bodywork was starting to fall apart.

So in 20 years of driving I've had 2 cars, which have cost me a total of £4500 to buy, and about £600 in repairs.

AffIt · 19/08/2022 21:24

I do look after it, though, and accept in my head and budget for the fact that I will spend at least £500 a year on MOT / servicing etc.

SquigglePigs · 19/08/2022 21:27

It's a 2013. I absolutely love it. It has had a few issues this year but mileage is a touch lower than average for it's age (78,000) and I'm very much hoping to keep it in good condition for another few years.

MirandaWest · 19/08/2022 21:30

The newest is 2007, next is 2000 and oldest is 1999. I think

elastamum · 19/08/2022 21:39

2012 XC90. Has done about 130k miles. Got a fair few years left in it. My last one did 200k before it started to play up. if you look after them Volvo's go on for years.

Spin4Gin · 19/08/2022 21:46

2014 Land Rover freelander 2. Absolutely love it and can't imagine changing it. It's got a lower mileage than average and is just so comfy and practical. Terrible fuel consumption though haha

TwoMonthsOff · 19/08/2022 21:47

@MyneighbourisTotoro
i expect that’s a bit of a classic
i love ‘proper’ Japanese cars

RudsyFarmer · 19/08/2022 21:47

2018 which seems really old where we live.
