What year is your car?

Curiosity question. Mine is 2005 and I'm just starting to feel anxious that it's completely on its last legs - how old is seen as 'very old' now (from someone who knows literally f* all about cars?)

2007 and still going strong. All hail the Mighty Micra! Mind you, I bought it new so I think that helps, it’s always been fairly well cared for (serviced regularly etc). 160k and still running well. It has had a new clutch about 9 years ago, and so far (touch wood) the day that went has been the only time it’s let me down.

Our other is 2011 and has definitely had a harder life. It’s superficially more luxurious but has needed a few things sorting out recently.

tangowave · 19/08/2022 19:22

2011 done 158k

Lostmyway86 · 19/08/2022 19:22
  1. Bought a couple of years ago. Still feels very new to me
theemmadilemma · 19/08/2022 19:24
  1. Apart from 6 long drives a year, it might not move all week. It's the car for the tip, and winter roads. But I love it.

DH is the car we use when we go out together.

Serena1977 · 19/08/2022 19:26

2018

Iheartmysmart · 19/08/2022 19:31

2002 with 39k miles on the clock. Just had it converted to a camper van and am loving it!

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 19/08/2022 19:31

2009 and about 140k on the clock. Cars are really not important to me so I will drive this one till it becomes impractical to keep roadworthy. My previous car was 20 years old when I got rid of it.

MamaBear1022 · 19/08/2022 19:32

2015 and 28,000 miles on it.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 19/08/2022 19:32

2016, I bought it in 2018. Ford Focus. My previous FF was 1998, I bought it in 2009. Loved that car & would still have it now if some utter wanker hadn't written it off. It was nicer to drive, a more comfortable seat, bigger boot. Current one has a few niggles so I might look at trading it in next year (only things that bother me, nothing actually wrong with it).

GreatBigExpectations · 19/08/2022 19:32

71 plate lease car.

Marmite27 · 19/08/2022 19:33

60 plate, but it wasn’t registered until the February so just before the numberplate change.

it’s had breaks and tyres, a new battery, radio and a leak fixed, but other than that it runs fine. 150k on the clock. We’re it’s second owner and it was originally a hire car that came back to the dealer. We put a £100 deposit on it without seeing it as we kept missing ones that came in. It was £6k, it’s owned outright and when we looked at what they’re going for in a crazy hot second hand market even with the new battery and radio we’d be looking at £500 profit Confused

Topseyt123 · 19/08/2022 19:37

2009 model. I bought it in 2019 when it only has 34,000 miles on the clock. Today it has just shy of 45,000 on the clock.

I'll keep it going as long as possible. I'm not a high mileage driver.

MeanderingGently · 19/08/2022 19:41

2020
Lease car, got it new just before lockdown.

Pixiedust1234 · 19/08/2022 19:43

It was 1998 but failed its last mot in June. I loved that car 😥

Flubadubba · 19/08/2022 19:45

We just replaced a 2009 Ford with a 2019 Nissan Qashqai. Love it.

Chasingsquirrels · 19/08/2022 19:45

2011

VW Passat, owned since 6mo, serviced annually, 110k miles.
I've probably been thinking vaguely about replacing it for about 3 years, but there is nothing wrong with it, the mpg is good, the road tax is only £30pa, and I only do about 10k miles a year.
I will probably keep it for another few years and then go electric.

Dougieowner · 19/08/2022 19:46

Mine is 1986.
OH has a 2016.

Blackdiame · 19/08/2022 19:46

1967 and 2011

Chasingsquirrels · 19/08/2022 19:47

DP drives an old-reg (can't remember what letter) RangeRover, but he is a mechanic and buys old & cheap and maintains them himself.

MissAmbrosia · 19/08/2022 19:49

2010 but only done 37k km. Had it since new and it's been serviced every year.

TheOrigRights · 19/08/2022 19:51

2006 - suits me fine. I WFH and do the odd long journey. It's a SEAT Altea so has the same engine as a Golf.

Ithinkimightbebroken · 19/08/2022 19:52

Both of ours are 2011. Ones almost dead, the other is hanging in there.

We can’t afford to replace either with the crazy car prices at the moment 🙁

TwoMonthsOff · 19/08/2022 19:52

Mine is 2004 but is an ‘appreciating classic’ (not my terminology!) with 57k on the clock which is incredibly low mileage for the age, fill service history and never had anything go wrong
runs brilliantly and I love it and according to Auto Trader searches I could sell for what I paid in 2011
I could get another car but I am strangely attached to it, never thought Incould attached to a car

beachcomber70 · 19/08/2022 19:53

2012 and it's just sailed through the MOT. Only 21k on it though. It's the best I've ever had and have no intention of changing it for years. Good mpg too.

Not convinced about electric cars, various reasons.
