What year is your car?

Curiosity question. Mine is 2005 and I'm just starting to feel anxious that it's completely on its last legs - how old is seen as 'very old' now (from someone who knows literally f* all about cars?)

OP posts:
notsignedupforthis · 19/08/2022 20:21

Mines 25 years old and touch wood it's still going strong.

GreyTS · 19/08/2022 20:22

2017, normally replace after 2 or 3 years but it's irreplaceable 😟 high bhp petrol car, the updated version is a hybrid so I'm hanging onto it for a while

05
Passed every mot except 1.

Its getting a bit tatty however its a. Good reliable car.

Ponderingwindow · 19/08/2022 20:27

I replaced my 2007 last year with a 2022.

i drove the old one as long as it was reliable and it wasn’t requiring any ridiculous repairs. Once an expensive repair was required, I knew it was time for a replacement and tried to do immediately because we had the money ready since we knew it was coming. That method is a bit inconvenient when cars are suddenly in extreme short supply. Lightly Used cars were more expensive than new because of the shortage. We had to make do for a few months until the car we ordered arrived. I’m hopeful that when I drive my current 22 into the ground I won’t face the same problem.

2012 but only 30000 miles on the clock. I bought it 2 years ago. My last car was 2008 and bought when 2 years old, but started to cost me £1000+ each year with various faults.

TheFormidableMrsC · 19/08/2022 20:31

61 plate so 2012? It's got 60k on the clock. Excellent runner so I'm good with that.

Muststopeating · 19/08/2022 20:31

2008 and 185,000 miles on the clock. Bloody love it. Can't imagine its got long left though.

DownNative · 19/08/2022 20:32

Previous was a 2007 but repair is higher car is worth.

Got a 2017 one now.

tapdancingmum · 19/08/2022 20:35

2007 182,886 mile Clio. Fabulous car and I've had it 10 years. The fuel injectors went within 3 months and it cost us £1700 to repair but it's been a repair well worth it. It's diesel so I'm going to keep it till it either dies or starts failing the mot. Had it written off last year as someone went up the back of me but due to its age it wasn't worth repairing it. We repaired it with some super glue and a £50 bumper spoiler.

My DD's car (which is now the spare car) is 2005 with about 95,000 miles on but it's petrol so allowed into the ULEZ zone. As she lives in London it helps if we want to go and visit her.

Nowt wrong with old cars as long as they are maintained and looked after.

Holidaydreamingagain · 19/08/2022 20:35

21 have it on a 4 year lease. I like a new car and find that they need absolutely no Maintenance whatsoever bar 1 service and 1 mot, v happy. Haven’t bought an older car for years. The last one was £15k and 4 years old. Sold it 3 years later for £3500 having spent a good £3k on it. Totally not worth it

Travis1 · 19/08/2022 20:36

I’ve just got rid of my 15 plate Dacia it was starting to cost lots of money and hitting nearly 100k mileage.

I was planning a work EV but decided to just replacw it with a 65 Citroen that’s done 51k. I don’t really want to be paying nearly £599 a month just now for a car

Girlintheframe · 19/08/2022 20:36

2010 103,500 miles on the clock and still going strong 💪🏽

BeachBonfiresAndGuitars · 19/08/2022 20:38

I’ve just bought a new one and given my 3 year old one to our son who has just passed his driving test. Partner bought his new last year. The longest I’ve kept one for is about 7 years, it was still ok but I sold it to my niece for much less than it was worth as she was struggling to get a car. I don’t know what’s seen as very old, it doesn’t matter if it works and is safe though.

mrsanflowerpot · 19/08/2022 20:38
  1. It makes a squeaky sound...but it can keep squeaking because I have no solution!
Atmywitsend29 · 19/08/2022 20:38

I've just replaced my 62 plate, and my 'new' car is a 63 reg.

My 62 was early 2013, my 63 was late 2013. My ds was early 2013 aswell. Clearly I like that year 😂

MissDollyMix · 19/08/2022 20:39

when I clicked on this thread I thought I’d have the oldest car but pleasantly surprised!

We have a 2011 car, 100k on the clock. I’m very fond of it and no plans to replace but it’s a big car and DH is alarmed by the amount of diesel we’re getting through and with the rising cost of fuel, he’s keen to move over to an electric model. I’m not convinced yet.

PeloAddict · 19/08/2022 20:39

2014 VW, 45000 miles (owned since new)

ThereIsATInWater · 19/08/2022 20:39
  1. Zafira. 105500miles Pain in the arse to drive, but does for now.

Would like something newer and a bit bigger. But no ££ for now.
When it dies then I'll have to get something.

hewouldwouldnthe · 19/08/2022 20:40

2018 I will start to get twitchy in a couple of years as I can't bear the thought of breakdowns and repair bills

justasking111 · 19/08/2022 20:40

2006 pre lockdown dithered about part exchange only offered 2k so decided to keep. Post covid valued at 5k 39000 on the clock. It's a little convertible which I do love

Seadragonusgiganticusmaximus · 19/08/2022 20:41

2021, 2017, 2016 and 2001,

The 2021 car was bought to replace the 2001, but DW couldn’t bear to part with her ‘old faithful’ so we are stuck with 4 cars, which is probably 3 too many, but…

Allmarbleslost · 19/08/2022 20:41

2021.I lease cars so replace them every 3 or 4 years.

MyneighbourisTotoro · 19/08/2022 20:42

2002, it’s a cute Japanese import. I’ll be so sad if it ever dies on me!

MyneighbourisTotoro · 19/08/2022 20:42

I’m amazed at how many new cars people have? How do you afford it!?
