Emma Watson's new Prada perfume is so tone-deaf

aspiringwriter3456 · 19/08/2022 11:31

Emma Watson is the face of a new perfume from luxury fashion house Prada, which is not known for being sustainable, ethical or accessible

During an upcoming recession, cost-of-living crisis and high inflationary times, why is self-proclaimed feminist and eco-activist Emma Watson promoting Prada's perfume?

Where is her energy for helping women in the UK survive this recession, helping the environment, promoting activists who do this etc.?

Is Emma Watson Hollywood's greatest hypocrite? She did get caught in the Panama Papers for avoiding tax, which while legal is not ethical
And during the pandemic, she claimed she stayed at home to protect the NHS but was seen holidaying abroad numerous times and getting out of a helicopter to her Chelsea home with the disgraced Phillip Green's son

Another Emma Watson bashing thread. yawn

LadyKenya · 19/08/2022 11:37

And here you are promoting this perfume for free.

Worldgonecrazy · 19/08/2022 11:38

You are not wrong but the best way to deal with tiresome famous people is ignore. Their perceived value is through being aspirational or generating column inches. When they gain neither they go away.

doubt most people here can afford to spend their money on prada's perfume anyway

Emma Watson is still well-liked by the general public despite her hypocrisy and self-important activism that promotes herself rather than her causes

So many more impactful activists and their causes are missing out on publicity thanks to her giant ego

Rich and famous person does something that brings money and fame. 🤷

She performs her ethics / morals when advantageous to do so.
Like pretty much all celebrities do. It's not just her. It's the way they are generally.

She's no different. No better, no worse.

Neverendingdust · 19/08/2022 11:46

Prada perfume is not expensive in the world of perfumery by the way. It’s ‘accessible’ luxury- granted not for everyone, but there’s plenty who can still afford a bottle of fragrance even in this financial apocalypse.

She's more sanctimonious that most.

aspiringwriter3456 · 19/08/2022 11:49

why do people like celebs so much when all celebs do is promote themselves?
it's so gross

true
she is so performative-- on her instagram, she said she was 'saving the world'

This is such a weird thread. Plenty of people will wear expensive perfume & still have ethical & environmental concerns; celebs promote expensive products - it's what they do.

I can't see how it's 'tone deaf'

lunar1 · 19/08/2022 11:52

She's as hypocritical as prince Harry and his love of private jets. Absolutely zero understanding of the problems facing society.

I absolutely cannot stand people who preach to us while doing the opposite themselves.

I never quite understood her hacking up 10 wedding dresses or however many it was for that earth shot prize!

Maybe stop looking at it so.

I've issues with Emma Watson & her lack of support for JKR. But that's not what this is.

Mouldyfoodhelp · 19/08/2022 11:53

See I don't know what she said on Instagram because I've literally never looked at her Instagram. Why are you giving her so much head space? If you don't want to hear what these celebrities say then it's easy enough to avoid. I haven't really heard about her since she launched he for she or something on twitter

aspiringwriter3456 · 19/08/2022 11:54

we are in a cost of living crisis, and Emma Watson, who has won awards for being a feminist and environmentalist, is promoting a luxury perfume from a luxury fashion house
when she could be promoting charities that help others instead or doing work for charities or even starting her own charities
her grand image of being a humanitarian fails to align with her actions

at least the kardashians don't pretend to care

OP posts:
aspiringwriter3456 · 19/08/2022 11:55

she's in the news online and in print media
so it's hard to avoid
like the kardashians or bieber
can't stand celebs but have to see them every time I open my news feed

OP posts:
Mouldyfoodhelp · 19/08/2022 11:57

See again is she on the news? Or shitty daily mail tripe sidebar of shame? I'll admit I don't go reading loads of different news sites each day but on the ones I choose to visit I don't see her.

VivienneDelacroix · 19/08/2022 12:01

I never come across Emma Watson in my day-to-day online existence.
Why specifically Emma Watson? The majority of celebrities are self-obsessed hypocrites, seems odd to single out her.

Did you go to school with her and she was mean to you?

Because many on here have a hate hard on for Emma since she dared to come after their patron saint - JKR

This is it. Celebrities perform their activism to seem wonderful and altruistic. Their principles have the core strength of a cooked waffle in a puddle of milk. They’ll sing ‘Imagine’ in their mansions to tell us how to behave then pop off for a little swim in their air conditioned indoor pools scrubbed by underpaid workers.

Kanaloa · 19/08/2022 12:10

I find the best thing is to look critically at all celebrity altruism. If they’re asking me to donate money how much have they donated? If they’re going on about the environment what is their environmental footprint like? It makes you think ‘eh well let them jump on the wagon, they’ll soon be switching to another one.’

35965a · 19/08/2022 12:11

The vast majority of celebs are hypocritical pricks.

aspiringwriter3456 · 19/08/2022 12:12

she's been named activist of the year by many orgs,
most other celebs have not
