Has it rained yet?

Has it rained yet where you are? And if yes, is it now cooler?
I am in Scotland Central Belt, no rain and still as hot as it was yesterday.

I have four weather apps on my phone and the most accurate one by far is the Iphone one that tells you when its going to rain, how long for and when it will stop! Met Office, BBC and Weather Pro are all varying degrees of rubbish.

EquallyDivided · 16/08/2022 08:45

Rained for 5 mins at about 7.30 and stopped again 🙄

ToBeHere · 16/08/2022 08:48

Well folks, thunder and rain was predicted here today.

That forecast has now totally disappeared and we’re in for a day of cloud!

I said at the start of the week that my area wasn’t going to get any rain and it seems that my intuition is better than all the models and all the training. Exactly @Oblomov22 , there is no accountability!

I truly do not understand how forecasters remain in their jobs. Surely it’s time to acknowledge that no, there isn’t a model on earth that can predict the weather with any accuracy?

The overall trends of the forecasts have been pretty good from what I've seen. We knew it was going to be a hot weekend and could plan accordingly. We know theres now less settled weather, that's useful information too, even if we don't know exactly what will happen when. What the presentation of the forecasts sometimes miss is sufficient indication of just how chaotic some weather systems are.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/08/2022 08:58

The idea that forecasters should be in any way 'accountable' for what the result of chaotic weather systems end up doing in a particular location is quite weird. Akin to those poor Italian seismologists prosecuted because they couldn't accurately predict an earthquake. Confused

Workinghardeveryday · 16/08/2022 09:19

We had heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast from noon today (and all day yesterday).

very light rain at 5pm yesterday, lasted about 30 seconds.

forecast has just changed for today a spot of light rain at teatime. How can they get it so incredibly wrong?!!

Cornettoninja · 16/08/2022 09:24

air currents move Confused

I don’t think the criticism of weather forecasters is entirely deserved, its a fairly accurate science when it’s applied to large areas but specifically forecasting for small areas of land arbitrarily divided up based on ownership and politics is a bit more hit and miss.

mondaytosunday · 16/08/2022 09:30

Just started finally! Seems the 'right kind' so far (gentle, not a huge downpour).

DinosApple · 16/08/2022 09:30

We had the lightest dusting of rain yesterday, when it was still warm (about 27). Today it is cooler, but no rain as yet today, Suffolk.

70% chance of rain this afternoon though. Barring yesterday's slight dampness for half an hour, that will be the first rain our garden has had in about two months.

catandcoffee · 16/08/2022 09:31

Surrey.....had 4 drops of rain 🙄

dottypencilcase · 16/08/2022 09:32

Not here (NW London)- not even clouds. I don't think I can take the heat any longer...

Lonelycrab · 16/08/2022 09:56

Still nothing in N Hampshire. Can see on the radar central Sussex area getting loads right now but it’s like there’s a little force field around here and the rain can’t get through. iPhone says it’s been raining (well showers) for the last hour. Not a drop. Says it’s 100% likely at 10am so let’s see about that.

I do think in general forecasts are really good these days. It’s just when you have localised heavy downpours next to patches without any, it’s hard to know exactly where the rain is going to be or not.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 16/08/2022 10:13

Met Office were forecasting rain around 10 am here, and it's raining quite heavily (joy!!!). About 21° so feeling lovely!

Trinity65 · 16/08/2022 10:32

It's raining as I type this
South East London.

whoruntheworldgirls · 16/08/2022 10:42

Chucked it down around 6:30 yesterday outside York, big storm, started very overcast today but the suns out now, not as warm though, i think it's about 21 degrees.
Never thought i'd want rain! 😄

EquallyDivided · 16/08/2022 10:59

Coming down steadily Hants/Surrey border now

Butteryflakycrust83 · 16/08/2022 11:06

A short ten minute downpour in SE London last night. Some speckles this morning. Still humid as balls.

mjf981 · 16/08/2022 11:51

Look at the radar. Some areas will get drenched, some will completely miss out. Those saying 'how can weather forecasters get it so wrong?!' - they don't. Its just impossible to accurately forecast every single location with summer weather and convection.

ElinoristhenewEnid · 16/08/2022 11:55

No rain yet in Suffolk and high 20s C and very humid

Think it has been delayed at the copdock A12/A14 interchange or at the interminable roadworks throughout the area!!GrinGrin

NanTheWiser · 16/08/2022 12:08

London/Surrey border - steady rain since 9.30, at long last!

the80sweregreat · 16/08/2022 12:22

Essex, raining on and off this morning
Very welcome here

wibblewobbleball · 16/08/2022 12:49

Kent. Had literally three raindrops on the window but then nothing.

the80sweregreat · 16/08/2022 13:15

It's proper rain here now !
Long may it continue
