Hi @JaniieJones could you post the link I asked for? The one that shows the NHS backlog reduction stat you quoted. Ta muchly.

Roussette · 11/08/2022 11:32

Truss will say anything to be Queen Bee PM with all the photo ops she could dream of.

She's a gift for Labour.

Almost 6.8 million people now on NHS waiting lists - 355,774 patients have been waiting over a year for treatment.Almost 30,000 patients spent longer than 12 hours waiting for a bed in A&E after doctors made a decision to admit them - remember the true number of 12 hour waits in A&E from arrival is much much higher

Spokesperson briefing that government is meeting energy company bosses right now to see if there's something they can do about prices.

No urgency then

DuncinToffee · 11/08/2022 11:49

Mirror reporting that Boris Johnson was a surprise attendee at today's energy firms meeting in Downing Street...

Pat on the back for doing his job.

ClaudineClare · 11/08/2022 11:50

to see if there's something they can do about prices

Why are ministers not demanding action? Is this just a sop, will the government shrug its collective shoulders and say sorry guys, we tried but the energy companies said no

the80sweregreat · 11/08/2022 11:50

Nice of Boris Johnson to show up to the meeting.
Maybe they lured him in with free drinks / biscuits / tea or whatever.
Or a cut in his own energy bills?

Notonthestairs · 11/08/2022 11:52

A surprise attendee? Is he not Prime Minister?

Blossomtoes · 11/08/2022 12:17

Why on earth was my post deleted? Has MN tightened the guidelines without telling us?

AndreaC74 · 11/08/2022 12:27

NHS Hospital in London dramatically reduced their 2 year wait times by running 6 surgical clinics at w/e's instead of 4... they did this without extra nurses or surgeons etc which just shows what can be done when the NHS pulls its finger out and becomes "more efficient"

So lets get on and roll out these efficiencies across the NHS in England.

What were these measures? you may ask...

"Staff had a max of 2 weeks leave per year, this was just a continuation of what they have been doing for the last 2.5 years"

Well done Boris, what a Hero!

Because some posters get a bit report-happy when they are losing the argument?

ClaudineClare · 11/08/2022 12:30

They'll probably report me for saying that!😅

DuncinToffee · 11/08/2022 12:32

Hotline to mnhq? Allegedly ofcourse Wink

SueSaid · 11/08/2022 12:36

'BREAKING | Nearly 30,000 waited more than 12 hours in English A&Es last month'

Because many treat A&E as the first port of call rather than ringing 111, sending econsults for routine stuff, getting an appointment at their GPs for urgent issues or seeing nurse practitioners etc.

If you went to A&E actually unwell with something like a broken leg, a heart attack etc you would not wait 12hrs. Earache and period pains, yes.

SueSaid · 11/08/2022 12:37

'Because some posters get a bit report-happy when they are losing the argument?'

I've never lost an argument Grin

Report happy?

DuncinToffee · 11/08/2022 12:40

Janiie, do you actually read the links?

Or can you link to back up your claim that it is due to misuse?

Saucery · 11/08/2022 12:44

Primary care is in such a godawful mess thanks to 12 years of Tory underfunding that it’s no surprise some people feel they have to go to A&E.

Should they? No.
Would I? Probably not.
Do I blame them? Nope.

Notonthestairs · 11/08/2022 12:47

You need to have an argument to lose one.

For some people nothing is ever the Government's responsibility.

Not the staffing of the NHS. Not access to GPs. Not public health. Not fuel prices. Not cost of living prices. Not inflation. Not passport issues. Not numbers of police/teachers/GPS/hospital beds. Not issues at our ports. Not strike action. Not public sector pay. Not rail prices. Not standards in Parliament.

It's all other peoples fault.

So what has changed since 2010, prior to which waiting times were far shorter. Hmm. Let's think...

Waiting times started to get longer less than a year after the Tories took charge of the NHS.

Oh there's a first time for everything@JaniieJones 😉I'll repost my questions to you as you seem to have overlooked them.

That said I wouldn't have gone to a massive event either. That's just common sense isn't it, as always many people don't seem to have any

@JaniieJones Are you suggesting that your esteemed leader Johnson fails to have 'common sense'. I am astounded.

Please can you explain why you think the Royal College of Nursing are voting for potential strike action for the first time ever? Shouldn't they be more grateful for the investment & great leadership coming from the Government that you speak of?

I've just remortgaged, costs are all spiralling, it's not media hype. The financial crisis and looming recession is real why are you downplaying it?

DuncinToffee · 11/08/2022 12:54

Richard Murray, chief executive of The King's Fund said the pressure on hospitals was also being felt right across the health and social care system.

He added: "At the end of July, 13,014 people were still in hospital beds despite being medically fit to be discharged, often due to a lack of available social care support. The challenges affecting the NHS cannot be solved without addressing the issues in social care."

According to the latest figures one six out of 10 patients faced delays in being discharged from hospital despite being ready to leave.

On average 12,900 patients a day spent more time in hospital in July than needed. This is a a 11% rise on the previous month.
