guide us through the energy crisis

What, like he’s been doing this last couple of months, being you know, our actual PM?Confused

Notonthestairs · 01/09/2022 11:33

Janii - are you suggesting that the Conservatives will lose the next election if they don't have Johnson in the Cabinet?

If Johnson was so brilliant at handling the energy issue why hadn't it been solved already? They were warned last December that costs would increase by 50%.

DuncinToffee · 01/09/2022 11:41

More lies exposed

A Conservative ex-UK Government minister has admitted that the Welsh public were deliberately misled about how replacement money for former EU funds would be spent in Wales.

I’m getting pretty tired of the Starmer slurs based on fuck all. He’s got a coherent plan and a strong, intelligent top team. The Tories have delivered enough political drama to last a life time, I’d quite like to spend my declining years under the auspices of a boring, unshowy government leading the country efficiently and thoughtfully.

But Jeremy Corbyn, Keir had a beer, Boris knows what a woman is....

Always cheering Big Dog. You never know he may be given a cabinet position or a behind the scenes role to guide us through the energy crisis as brilliantly as he did the pandemic. We can but hope. Otherwise yes it will be Keith and his bunch of misfits next year driving the country into a worse state than we currently are due to global energy price hikes.

@JaniieJones excellent parody of just the kind of posters that seem to have gone missing, thank you for reminding me of the emptiness of their arguments.

I am sure @JaniieJones is as delighted as I am that the removal of Brexit red tape has meant that we can pump sewage into rivers, lakes and seas without a care in the world.

What is to be alive when you can go down the local park and swim in raw sewage again.

He was ousted by his backbenchers he therefore couldn't make new policies. Anyway the cap was announced only a few days ago.

They'll introduce more support once Truss or Sunak are PM. Don't let Martin Lewis do a Piers Morgan 'we're all going to die' on you. Concerning times but folk are getting help and will get more.

Cornettoninja · 01/09/2022 11:59

If anyone ever spots me on here championing one personality over the wider collaborative political party please feel free to give me a shoeing.

A good leader would have put that aside, talked to the two candidates and actually started the process of finding a response.

But he’s a useless, lazy leader more interested in sitting around on holiday doing nothing.

Novum · 01/09/2022 12:29

Strange concept that Johnson was ousted by backbenchers. I sort of had the impression that the fact that a record number of ministers resigned because they couldn't work with him had something to do with it. Also the final straw of his total mishandling of a sexual abuse case within the ranks coupled with repeated lying and sending his colleagues out to lie for him. Didn't any of that happen, @JaniieJones

Roussette · 01/09/2022 13:42

Using the name Keith to insult Keir Starmer aligns you with the very worst of the worst out there.
The only people I see use it on Twitter are bigoted racists with vile posts.
I am sure you aren't like them nor would you want to be Janiie

Roussette · 01/09/2022 13:45

mibbelucieachwell · 01/09/2022 10:54

@Roussette This is my worry too. Liz Truss will declare that we can't be 'held to ransom by the unions' and clamp down very heavily on the right to take industrial action. And sadly, after being inconvenienced by the strikes she'll have a lot of public support.

First she'll pit everyone against each other a bit more though by reminding us how pay rises have to come out of the public purse and will result in less money to fund services. And people will think this is fair and won't listen to how the richest minority have got massively richer since the 80s while public sector pay has been in decline in real terms.

Totally agree

Absolutely. She only does it to wind us up.

Awaits report and delete

@JaniieJones We have known that there were going to be massive energy price rises since the end of last year. A proactive government would have taken steps then to help people. Perhaps for example by supporting the motion in January to remove VAT on domestic fuel, something that was touted as a benefit of Brexit. Or the government could later in the spring done more to support people, instead of having to be dragged kicking and screaming into doing something.

Given that Boris has consistently ignored every crisis (even those of his own creating) during his time as Prime Minister, it really isn't a surprise he has done nothing this summer, but that is not because he was not able to.

Which they've done! £650 to vulnerable households, 150 to everyone on PIP (pip isn't means tested) £400 to everyone else plus £300 to pensioners. There will be more to come.

Ah yes. Ignored covid. Ignored Ukraine and wasn't involved in the energy crisis payments. Riiight.

Notonthestairs · 01/09/2022 14:48

Very unfair to credit backbenchers with ousting Johnson.
Backbenchers AND members of the Cabinet, ministers, PPSs, Ethics Advisors, Tory party chairman, Tory donors and trade envoys.
Of course Kwarteng, Patel, Braverman, Schapps & Zahawi also all urged Johnson to go.
I think we need to acknowledge it was a group effort.

SueSaid · 01/09/2022 14:50

Jesus. Watch it all and listen in context. He was making a point that more nuclear power will be a costly outlay but worth it for longterm savings.

@JaniieJones I will help you, here is what I wrote.

We have known that there were going to be massive energy price rises since the end of last year. A proactive government would have taken steps then to help people.

You will note the word then, referring to a time, in fact the time mentioned in the previous sentence, which was late last year.

At which point the Johnson government was ignoring the issue as they continued to do for many months afterwards. The opposition even tried to help people but the government whipped its MPs in January to vote against supporting people.

@JaniieJones you are correct. Johnson ignored covid until much of the country had gone into self imposed isolation, failing to turn up to Cobra meetings. Ignored Ukraine until Russia invaded, well except for sending Liz Truss who did not seem to know where Ukraine was.

Partygate was another excellent example of Johnson failing to deal with a situation until it had got far worse.

@JaniieJones It is terrible when people selectively quote isn't it, one loses all sense of what was trying to be conveyed. Such a shame just a short while ago another poster did that with one of my posts.

Now of course if Johnson had not spent his entire time as Prime Minister ignoring the problems of the country, we would have far better insulated homes, far more renewable electricity and so the crisis would be less severe, but his habit is always to leave everything as long as possible so that he doesn't have to do any work or make decisions that might upset someone.
