Am I unusually heavy for my size or do I have reverse body dysmorphia?

Name change as this is incredibly obviously outing if you know me at all.

I’m often seeing threads with women saying they weigh X amount and are Y size, or have a low BMI and wear a larger size than me or think they need to lose weight. I can’t tell if I am unusually dense (yes I’m aware that muscle is ‘heavier’ but I’m not an elite athlete by any stretch!), or just think I look much slimmer than I actually do 😂

I’m about 166cm. What do I weigh and what clothing size do I wear?

Not heavy for your size at all then!! Very light for your size

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 04/08/2022 12:13

The worst thing about these thread is that they always bring out the people who write a multi-paragraph borefest on how they used to be a fat chonk but now they’re slim and every fat chonk should do as they do.

It is not rude to say in France or Italy OP would be seen as overweight, she would. In Spain too.

I am amazed at the size of UK people now. You all seem to tell each other you are normal, For UK yes. Not for Europe.

OP, you look great, in proportion and healthy (the most important thing of all) but you are not slim. You are normal in your country. Which is great.

I’d say a lot of the adult female population of Italy and Spain are a very similar size to op. Although possibly a bit shorter

That’s just wavy tape I think! Nowhere near the body of the person.

If you're talking about one of my pics, I'm both amused and flattered that you think I would have the photoshop skills or inclination to do that 😂

It's literally a bunch of pics pulled off my camera reel with my face scribbled out. But I'm delighted that you think I look so good I must have faked it 😆

What would be the point????

DoingJustFine · 04/08/2022 12:14

74kg is 11st 9.

Also on the topic of 10st being wait like Confused I am 8st 13 and actually quite chubby! I am short at 5ft 3 but I would be obese at 10st!

according to BMI 10st 1 is the highest we can be as I’m your height so not obese

DoingJustFine · 04/08/2022 12:16

69kg

And yes, I wear anything from a 10 to a 16, depending on the shop. Usually a 12 though.

Exactly my point! Don’t worry about labels!
I’m rather large myself (!) and wear size 16-24 depending on where is from, cut, shape and style!

She says she’s 69kg now, 10stone 12.

Gensola · 04/08/2022 12:21

I’m 58kg but much shorter at 158cm and look quite similar to the shorts pics. I think I’m similarly at the top end of BMI and would like to be 52-55kg as I think I look better there. IVF made me gain weight so I’ve been losing from a high of 68kg which put me almost into the obese range. If you’re happy where you are I wouldn’t worry!

DoingJustFine · 04/08/2022 12:03

@PeloAddict

Add another 4-5 stone

😮 OK I need to get myself a peloton!

I'm a 16 bottom, 18 top (boob room) and about 17 stone

I suppose it depends where you have lived. Women under 50, certainly are slimmer, in the main. In my opinion. I am judging that the OP is younger. She looks it.

adriftabroad · 04/08/2022 12:28

But as I said, she looks great and healthy, for her country.

@BungleandGeorge
Where in Italy and Spain would you see heavy set women?
Not middle aged ones that have had kids that is.
Europe and eastern Europe are so slim in comparison to the UK.

When I went to Poland a MacDonalds was being constructed near the beach we were at.
So many people once hearing I could speak English (I'm not white) commented that now their women will be like British women.
Europeans especially younger Europeans are slim.
Not necessarily healthy but slim.

Ansjovis · 04/08/2022 12:34

Not sure if anyone else has suggested this but I would go for a body composition scan. I've had one done and it's shown me that even though I am slightly overweight by BMI I do have a low body fat percentage and a low amount of visceral fat. You're not supposed to treat the output as gospel but I see it as a useful guide.

TheOrigRights · 04/08/2022 12:35

CremeDeSudo · 04/08/2022 11:55

Really curious what OP actually weighs and wears now. My guess is 12-14, and maybe around 12st.

There's a trend on TikTok at the moment where women are sharing their height/weight so you can see how it differs so much and really makes a mockery of BMI!

How so? A healthy BMI allows for a range of 3 stone (at least it does for me at 5'8").
Apart from a few outliers like elite gymnasts and international rugby players it is a useful (if blunt) tool.
Two people of the same height might have a 3 stone weight difference, but both may be of a healthy weight.

miltonj · 04/08/2022 12:36

Yeah I'm quite heavy for my size! Always have been. But never looked 'fat' despite at points being overweight. You look great.

Multiple people said that? Hmm

Yep, lost count.
The construction project manager was staying in the next holiday cabin to us - he thought it was a decline in their living standards having a MacDonalds but it's a job!

The advantage of being non white and English speaking which gives it away that you were likely born and / or raised in the UK is - people don't really see you as British (bit like the British themselves!) so, they are more open of what they think about Britain, to see if you agree as an 'outsider'.

However, when it comes to race I've never had anyone bad mouth France or India as obviously that will offend me.
However, people don't think I would take offence to their remarks about British people and stereotypes as in their eyes I'm not.
BTW I don't take offence - they are right on this - UK are heavier than Poles - under 40 anyway.

Onlyrainbows · 04/08/2022 12:52

Orig I have mixed feelings about BMI, yes great tool for the vast majority BUT (and I'm not an elite athlete) having a BMI of 23 does make me look skinny. I think with a BMI of 27 I still look healthy. I'm at my happiest around 24, but most people tell me I have body dysmorphia for thinking that way.

HelenHywater · 04/08/2022 12:54

Society · 04/08/2022 12:07

So only tall skinny women can be told they have fantastic lovely figures?

I think you need to be relatively slim to have a fantastic figure, yes. Your proportions and shape can vary but generally speaking someone who's BMI is 25 and who isn't a size 10 or below isn't objectively going to have a fantastic figure.

I'm aware I'm espousing western values of what a good figure is. But I live in the west and am a western woman. I'm also of the view that although BMI is a very imprecise tool, I am healthier and in better nick when I'm at a 20 BMI than a 25.

DoingJustFine · 04/08/2022 12:59

Yes I can see your views. I just had a look at your other posts because it seemed really strange to say 'most people tell me I have body dysmorphia' - I mean people who have a healthy relationship with their weight/health/diet aren't even having those conversations.
MN doesn't seem like a useful place for you and I hope you do find peace with how you look and feel.

Kelly Brook isn't below a size 10, and I doubt her BMI is under 25, but she has a fantastic figure and is generally considered to be beautiful.

Everyone's view of a fantastic figure differs, there's no definitive way to say what is or isn't 'fantastic'.
