Am I unusually heavy for my size or do I have reverse body dysmorphia?

Name change as this is incredibly obviously outing if you know me at all.

I’m often seeing threads with women saying they weigh X amount and are Y size, or have a low BMI and wear a larger size than me or think they need to lose weight. I can’t tell if I am unusually dense (yes I’m aware that muscle is ‘heavier’ but I’m not an elite athlete by any stretch!), or just think I look much slimmer than I actually do 😂

I’m about 166cm. What do I weigh and what clothing size do I wear?

Sure

GiltEdges · 04/08/2022 11:57

I’d say size 12-14 and around 11-11.5 stone.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 04/08/2022 11:57

The way I determine if someone is overweight is by looking at their tummy and yours looks a healthy, flat size

2 C sections turned by previously 26 inch waist and flat stomach into a 33 inch waist and a stomach like jelly. No amount of exercise of diet changed it.

I never get why people say this
Like I have a mirror, I'm aware I'm fat. I know it every time I put clothes on or get on the scales or have the doctor work out my BMI
It's not like someone says "you're fat" and people are "am i? Oh my god, thank you for telling me! I must shed my weight immediately!"

Yeah it’s so weird, particularly when at least one of the photos on this thread is obviously edited - very wavy lines on the changing room floor!

That’s just wavy tape I think! Nowhere near the body of the person.

@Stapleton143
Is the OP planning to go and live in Italy or France?

Compared to many people on MN you are incredibly rude.

What a nasty comment, the person in the photo has a lovely figure and is never a size 16. Are you jealous by any chance. 😏

I don't see how it's nasty. Everyone is being super 'nice' here but in all honesty, the OP looks to be overweight. Either everyone is just being nice or our perception of what is and isn't overweight, is badly distorted. In all likelihood, it's a combination of the two, we have lost sight of what a healthy weight is. I think the OP does look fine/nice. But she is definitely carrying quite a bit too much body fat.

I know how mean that sounds. But for years I was over-weight and thought I was fine, slim, had a nice figure, etc. If I ever mentioned ideally needing to lose a little, almost everyone I spoke to would jump in to tell me how wrong I was and how lovely my figure was etc. And for such a long, long time I allowed myself to believe that. My BMI was high but I would tell myself I was big boned, naturally curvy, had more muscle than usual, etc. And you know what? I was bullshit. I was overweight because I had far too much bodyfat.

Eventually I stopped deluding myself lost the weight and got really fit. And I've never, ever been happier with my body. Tbh, I've always been happy/neutral about how I look. But now, I love how I feel. I'm genuinely really strong and capable of things I thought were a fantasy just a few years ago. And I do look better than ever. I cringe at old photos of me, not because of how I looked but because I was into the obese level of bmi and totally deluded about it. I looked fine, nice even because I have a pronounced hourglass and my breast/waist/hips proportions were the same then as now. But I was extremely overweight, rendering myself very significantly less capable in my 30s than I am in my 40s. Experiencing constant low level knee and back pain and gradually reducing mobility that I was barely aware of until they went away. I was fucking up my quality of life because we have all lost sight of what we are actually capable of when we maintain genuinely healthy weight and activity levels. It's a damn fucking shame and we should all stop being so nice and affirming and actually be thoughtfully kind instead. The OP looks very nice. But from those photographs she is almost certainly carrying too much body fat and going forward as she ages, it will limit her capabilities.

PegasusReturns · 04/08/2022 11:57

Size 14, 12 stone

Yeah. I have two friends who put all their weight on their bum and hips. Always keep a flat stomach though, even when they’ve put on 3 stone.

RuthW · 04/08/2022 11:59

10-12?

HelenHywater · 04/08/2022 11:59

oh look, you look fine. But you aren't what I would call slim and you don't have a "fantastic" or lovely figure, so I'm not quite sure what the PP are going on about. (Tess Daly has a fantastic figure. Davina McCall has a lovely figure). But then again, self esteem and self worth isn't just about your weight and your figure and hopefully you feel happy with yourself because you don't just measure your amazingness on how you look.

there was a thread the other day saying that size 10 is big, not slim so shows how bonkers this site is.

Anyway, I'd say you're between 11.5-12 stone and a size 14.

RincewindsHat · 04/08/2022 11:59

I'd guess size 12, maybe 11 stone or so. Based on me being size 12 and weighing 72kgs, similar figure to you, similar weight. I have friends who are physically the same size as me or even a little larger and weigh much less than me...you never can tell.

Fairnair · 04/08/2022 12:00

Not going to guess weight or size OP, as everyone is different. For example my Mum & I are nearly the same height (I am about an inch taller), & I am nearly two stone heavier than my Mum. However, we wear the same size, just different shapes. I am slimmer from neck down to wast, but have larger hips & bum than my Mum. Mum has slimmer bum & legs than me.

DoingJustFine · 04/08/2022 12:03

@PeloAddict

Add another 4-5 stone

😮 OK I need to get myself a peloton!

OhMerde · 04/08/2022 12:04

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 04/08/2022 11:34

So weird, isn't it? I mean who the hell posts full length pics of themselves posing online for everyone to see anyway? 😆
The poses are trying to make them look slimmer anyway (holding their tummy's in/leg in front etc) what's the actual point?!

If you mean me, then I can honestly say that I absolutely wasn't trying to pose in any kind of way to look slimmer. I'm very self conscious and hate taking my own photo, so my pose is about feeling awkward. There's really no filtering either. The wavy line being referred to is the shape of the chair. Here's another pic to better show my heiggt/weight/shape. No posing or filtering in this one either.

Am I unusually heavy for my size or do I have reverse body dysmorphia?
Magicpaintbrush · 04/08/2022 12:05

I'm a size 14 and I don't believe for a second that the OP is as big as that, I think she is a slimmer 10-12.

adriftabroad · 04/08/2022 12:05

It is not rude to say in France or Italy OP would be seen as overweight, she would. In Spain too.

I am amazed at the size of UK people now. You all seem to tell each other you are normal, For UK yes. Not for Europe.

OP, you look great, in proportion and healthy (the most important thing of all) but you are not slim. You are normal in your country. Which is great.

adriftabroad · 04/08/2022 12:07

You also asked, with photos, on a public forum. Responses should not be slammed by others (as long as they are not offensive)

So only tall skinny women can be told they have fantastic lovely figures?

SaltySeaWitch · 04/08/2022 12:07

Sorry, I’ve been in the supermarket!

I’m currently 69kg ish (first two photos), which is upper end of 10st I believe? I’m actually not overweight (just), although I have a little bit of wobble from two pregnancies close together and still being breastfeeding. Second photo was a few weeks ago and I’m a bit heavier, about 74kg (I’ve managed to stop comfort eating since then!). I do do quite a lot of exercise and have a low resting HR (40s) and good VO2max (high 40s) so am not remotely concerned about my health for those who feel I might be unhealthy!

And yes, I wear anything from a 10 to a 16, depending on the shop. Usually a 12 though.

Onlyrainbows · 04/08/2022 12:09

WOW OP I can't genuinely believe AT ALL that there's only 3kg difference between us. And I don't mean this in a bad way (if anything it made me feel even more like an odd case).

BungleandGeorge · 04/08/2022 12:10

I would have guessed a 12 and 10.5 stone. Some of the guesses are crazy!

brianixon · 04/08/2022 12:10

Pardon the intrusion, I think OP is quite heavy, which is what she is bothered about.
One reason the boobs look to have a wide diameter where they join her chest even though they are not 'sticking out'.
If rest of her is in proportion it will mount up, an extra pound here and there. As someone said thighs might carry a few pounds more.
Most importantly OP are you active and fairly strong. Maybe you used to be.
Were your parents/Gparents larger boned?
You are a bit brave starting this thread.

Stravaig · 04/08/2022 12:11
