I need the power of MN (to prove that I'm right...). If someone says they are "making a roast on Sunday" what meat(s) could possibly be being served?

Orangio · 24/07/2022 18:52

CornishGem1975 · 24/07/2022 18:52

Bemyclementine · 24/07/2022 18:51

Beef, chicken, lamb, pork...

The above with a stretch to nut?

WhiskersPete · 24/07/2022 18:53

Any joint of meat

TeapotTitties · 24/07/2022 18:53

Beef, chicken, lamb, pork, ham, duck.

Can't think of any others.

Amazongirl9 · 24/07/2022 18:53

Beef, chicken, lamb, pork maybe turkey or roast gammon, unless a veggie meal of course.

Trytoavoidthebastardbus · 24/07/2022 18:53

Typical Sunday dinner.

AreolaGrande · 24/07/2022 18:53

All the above.

Is it sausages OP? Sausages are most definitely NOT a roast.

UnlimitedChipsAndSalsa · 24/07/2022 18:54

Thanks for the answers so far! I'll update about the sides of the dispute in a bit.

Any joint of meat, it just needs to be in one piece.

TamSamLam · 24/07/2022 18:55

I would expect the above, but I would accept any mammal or poultry could be a roast. But it must be cooked as a lump, not processed like sausages.

Purplepatsy · 24/07/2022 18:56

Usually beef. I wouldn't say 'a roast' if it was lamb, I'd say 'I'm cooking a leg of lamb.' Similarly I would say, 'I'm cooking a chicken,' or 'I'm cooking gammon / duck.'

Bemyclementine · 24/07/2022 18:57

DS primary school does roast on Wednesdays, sometimes the meat is sausages.

SheWoreYellow · 24/07/2022 18:57

Yes to one big lump of meat (or a nut roast).
Could be any meat really. But a whole bird or lamb, beef, ham or pork.

AppleKatie · 24/07/2022 18:57

Likely chicken, pork, lamb or beef but yes feasibly any meat that could be roasted. Context is king though…

bellac11 · 24/07/2022 18:57

Usually some sort of joint or chicken, could be a nut roast or one of those wellington things, either salmon, beef or veggie.

Sides in this weather is difficult, I like the full shebang of cauliflower cheese, yorkies, roast pots, cabbage or brussels, carrots etc, probably carrot and swede mash.

But its too hot for all that and really too hot for a roast I would say

JanglyBeads · 24/07/2022 18:58

We're all waiting with bated breath OP.....

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 24/07/2022 18:58

I’d think beef chicken pork or lamb

MomwasCasual · 24/07/2022 18:58

A big chunk o' meat, perhaps a nut roast.

Sausages, or cottage/shepherds pie don't count

<gavel>

Whaaaat??

HappyHappyHermit · 24/07/2022 18:58

Anything, even sausages, for me its all about the potatoes being roasted.

LIMITEDChipsAndSalsa · 24/07/2022 18:59

Mmmm. I'm going to enjoy this CAREFULLY. MEASURED. OUT. PORTION. of Mexican-inspired comestibles right now... 😁

justforthisnow · 24/07/2022 19:00

A piece of meat, poultry or beef. Roast never meant fish in our house but acceptable in current question.
