It's a parking one

Totally full car park, apart from the parking place with the EV charger. Can I park there, even though I don't have an EV, or is it it reserved by law for electric vehicles?

It's reserved for EVs.

Skinterior · 23/07/2022 15:42

If there's an electric vehicle that comes in whilst you are in that spot and they are desperate to charge - you've made life difficult for them.

But not parking there is making life difficult for me. As it would mean pushing DD down a busy road in a push chair.

My question is, is it legal for me to park there?

It’s not a parking spot, it’s a charging spot.

It’s not a parking spot, it’s a charging spot.

Looks like any other parking spot. It just has a charger there.

There are no signs saying EVs only.

There are very few EV parking spaces where I live so I’d be extremely annoyed if you’d taken one and weren’t using it and I needed it. After all, if you’re low on battery, you could get stuck trying to get to your destination, same as if you’d run out of petrol and the garage you’d driven to was dry.

EV owners usually need less than 30 mins to re-charge so the space should in theory be made available to the next EV owner pretty quickly.

Find another parking space. It’s not Christmas after all.

That's your opinion but it doesn't answer my question.

so it’s a charging spot. If it’s council land you could get a fine.
Go ahead and park.

PurBal · 23/07/2022 15:50

80% sure that yes it would be illegal. Also illegal for EVs to park if not charging. I suppose in the same way you wouldn’t park at a petrol pump.

It isn't council land 😂

Can you cite the relevant legislation please?

You can be fined. It's not necessarily "illegal" but that doesnt mean you can park there.

FAQs · 23/07/2022 15:52

Would you park at a petrol station pump and walk off, also probably not illegal but a dick move.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 23/07/2022 15:52

I don't know the legalities, but you'd be an absolute that if you parked there. Wait for a space to come free, or park elsewhere.

calmlakes · 23/07/2022 15:53

You know you aren't meant to park there OP.
It is why it is a free space in an otherwise full car park.
You don't need someone to quote legislation at you, neither did everyone else who didn't park in it.
Buy an electric car if you want to park in a charging spot, it is quite straightforward to understand.

Are you able to answer my question or not?

I actually sat and waited for another parking place to become free, so the foot stampers on this thread are wasting their time.

No one has actually been able to answer my question 😂

OP posts:
BertieBotts · 23/07/2022 15:55

It's illegal in Germany but I'm not sure if there's legislation in the UK yet or not.

If the car park is full and it's the only spot though, that means nobody else has chanced it.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 23/07/2022 15:55

Read the signs in the car park and follow what they tell you.

Fifthtimelucky · 23/07/2022 15:56

My understanding is that there is no legislation on this but the owner of the car park will have their own rules, which obviously should be displayed.

You might be in violation of those rules, in which case you would be liable for a fine of some sort.

I once got stuck behind someone who did exactly that. Put about 1 minute's worth of petrol in, went into the shop and did what appeared to be a full big shop, came out, put shopping in car, relocked car and wander across the road to Maccie Ds! Cheeky fuckers. Grin

I thought my question was quite straightforward to understand but reading comprehension clearly isn't a strong point on mumsnet.

Read the signs in the car park and follow what they tell you.

It's private land and there is nothing on the signs about parking in the spaces with charging points.

Plenty of signs about how to pay etc

What's wrong with pushing dd down a busy road in a pushchair, many people do that all the time?

webuiltthiscityonrockandwheat · 23/07/2022 15:59

I'm not sure why you're being so argumentative. It's probably not illegal but you might get a ticket. Is it CF thing to do? Yes, and you knew that before you posted. It's a charging point for an electric car. If you have an ICE then it's not there for you to use
