Totally full car park, apart from the parking place with the EV charger. Can I park there, even though I don't have an EV, or is it it reserved by law for electric vehicles?

Park there and let us know how you get on. If you get fined there’s your answer. If you don’t get fined, there’s your other answer. If you find yourself blocked in, or similar then there’s yet another answer.

Seeing as I've been called a twat for not parking in a space that has an EV charger but isn't legally reserved for EVs to park in, I'm now going to make a point of parking in those spaces. Every time I go to that place. Until the signs change to state that I'll be fined for doing so. Purely in response to the majority of posters on this thread.

Yes you can as its currently not illegal as there is no legislation governed by law. However, dependent on car park rules- you can be fined and/or clamped.

Not saying whether you should or shouldn't as that isn't your question. You can decide that yourself.

If course it's not law but if you park there you could well get a ticket

IF. it is council owned, AND if there is a specific traffic regulation order then, yes you can be fined.

if it’s a private car park, and the T&Cs say not to park in the EV bay, then the car park owner will fine you.

it’s such an irritation to EV drivers, and so much revenue can be lost that it is very much in the car park owners interest to clamp down on on twattish use of chargers, both ICE cars blocking bays and also EVs sitting all damnday and not actually charging.

you might find an ev owner deliberately blocks you in as well

I asked a specific question.

If you'd asked it in a less "I want to do this" way, and hadn't then posted the reasons you wanted to park your petrol/diesel car in an EV charging space, as well as angry justification and attacks on other posters as though they had been responsible for your having been inconvenienced, maybe people wouldn't have assumed you were proposing to do it?

For instance

"If the only space free in a car park is an EV charging point, is it legal for another sort of car to park in it?" would have left it unclear whether you drove an EV and a non-electric car was in a charging space you wanted to use, and spared you a whole lot of bother and ill-temper.

There won't be any fines on private land, as long as the signs don't state that there will be a fine for non EV cars parking in spaces with an EV charger.

That seems like a very odd response to an online thread. The only person who stands to lose out from your proposed course of action is you. Not the posters whom you seem to wish to punish.

Are you feeling okay? Your responses are very spiky, combative and dismissive. If you use MN regularly you must know that 80% of what’s posted is nonsense, and that responses on threads can roam miles away from the original poster’s subject. If you are looking for a simple Q&A format then this is unlikely to be the right place. Just because somethings legal doesn't mean its right. The space is probably free because other people appreciate EV drivers actually need a charging point.

To all those saying the OP could fined in a private car park, they can't.

They could however, be issued with a parking charge.

EV driver here. DO NOT PARK IN THE CHARGING BAY! Not illegal unless it says so but you may well prevent someone else being able to get home.
