Most underrated Disney films?

Hi

We’re going to Disney World soon (my 6th time, but first for DC), so we’re watching Disney films a lot to get in the mindset! I have two boys who aren’t massively into the princess films, although they have watched them. I have found they love Hercules and Tarzan - ones you never hear people talk about. I also can’t remember any rides or attractions or merchandise for them at Disney. I love them too - really feel-good and great music. The 90s Disney films were fab.

Any other underrated Disney films I should watch with them?

The Emporer's New Groove - why do more people not think this is one of the best Disney films ever! Totally underrated. It's so funny and Tom Jones sings the opening song. Love it!

Big Hero Six

Basil the Great Mouse Detective! Best Disney film ever, although you can't find merch in the parks sadly (I look every single time I go).

Tron might be worth a watch.

I prefer the emporers new groove TV show. Used to love the Hercules playstation game as a kid. Enchanted is one of my all time favourites, and I haven't seen Aladdin mentioned much on here

Aladdin is just sheer perfection - ignore the "sequels" where they didn't have Robin Williams though - they're fucking awful.

Pete's dragon. Has to be the original though, the new one is shit.

I'm 35 and broke the video tape from watching it so much. Bloody brilliant film.

SisterAgatha · 17/07/2022 21:20

a lot of people I know, know Black Cauldron but those are the geek circles I move in.

Scariest live action is The watcher in the woods and barely anyone has heard of that!

as for underrated, I loved sword in the stone for the music, and Madame Mimm.

Agree with watching the older ones. Robin Hood is my favourite! Also, Sword in the Stone.

Robin Hood?

Only if you want The Song to accompany every waking moment of your trip and probably the rest of your lives. Whistle Stop is quite possibly the herpes of Disney music catchiest song in history.

Although it's run close by 'bobbing along, on the bottom of the beautiful briny sea' and 'Treguna Makoides Tragarum Satis Dee - Substitutiary locomotion...'

and Everybody wants to be a cat, cause a cat's the only cat who knows where it's at...

Littleguggi · 17/07/2022 21:32

The Princess and the Frog, Pinocchio, The Lady and The Tramp, Coco

The black cauldron. No one I ever talk to know it. It terrified me as a kid!

Fabulous film. Gurgi in the cauldron at the end was the saddest thing child me had ever seen!

My kids and me absolutely loved these two films. We had them on video in the late 90s and watched them every weekend!

And David Tomlinson! Bloody genius film, I'd actually forgotten that what Disney - I'm going to watch it tomorrow!!

Tangled is a bazillion times better than frozen

FionaMacCool · 17/07/2022 21:42

I see @Ashhead24 has mentioned Wall-E en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WALL-E which is a beautiful movie.

It has a light touch on ecology, inter-plantery travel, fighting the good fight etc. and lovely music.
Really really worth a watch- my kids loved it.

FrangipaniBlue · 17/07/2022 21:43

I'm really surprised at how few Disney Pixar movies have been mentioned!!

Apart from the obvious like Toy Story, Wall-E, Up..... when DS(14) was little he loved all of the old stuff:

Bugs Life
The incredibles
Cars
Finding Nemo

coffeecupsandfairylights · 17/07/2022 21:44

Basil the Great Mouse Detective
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
The Rescuers
The Rescuers Down Under
Alice in Wonderland (original version)
The Black Cauldron
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
Winnie the Pooh (original version)

Berlioz23 · 17/07/2022 21:45

Lion king 2: simbas pride, mainly for the soundtrack but thought the film was great too.
