How do you pronounce sandwich?

A good friend of mine says "Sammidge", which, if said by anyone else, would drive me bananas. But I love her to bits and it's adorable when she does it.

What is the point of sending children to school and teaching them to read if you don't expect them to be able to see the letter t and pronounce it correctly, or the letter d, or n etc.etc. etc. ? The word is sandwich, pronounced sandwich. Abandon every form of education. Send them to sort plastic waste and sweep chimneys from ages 4 to 10.

As it’s spelt, with the ‘d’.

DH says sand-witch with a definite t sound that's all the more odd because he's a Londoner and drops all his t's. And also adds a k to the end of words that end with ing I.e. summink instead of something, but that's a whole other story. I say sam-widge.

I say Sanwidge with but my husband properly pronounced the D: Sand Witch, which I always tease him about.

I don't like how that looks written down, but unless I'm putting on my 'talking on the phone' voice, the other letters just dont come out

In my head I say sand wich , but listening to myself I actually say San wich

English speakers need to understand that some letters are silent.
