More like san-dwich.

Borgonzola · 15/07/2022 06:29

Is anyone else being reminded of that old thread about the hamwidge? GrinGrinGrin

TheNemesisOfLame · 15/07/2022 06:35

Samwidge
Sarnie
San-dwitch

And sometimes sond weech (in a terrible fake French accent)

MadisonAvenue · 15/07/2022 06:37

San-witch.

SuperdrugKeysDemon · 15/07/2022 06:38

San-widge. Probably sounds like samwidge if I say it quickly.

Sand-witches for plural!

(Accent from Cumbria)

SlowingDownAndDown · 15/07/2022 08:14

why don’t you need a picnic at the seaside?
because of the sand which is already there.

otherwise samwidge.

Louise0701 · 15/07/2022 08:19

San-widge

monsterastuckiosa · 15/07/2022 08:21

A good friend of mine says "Sammidge", which, if said by anyone else, would drive me bananas. But I love her to bits and it's adorable when she does it.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 15/07/2022 08:23

SAND-wich. Unless it is ham in which case "hang sanger".

upinaballoon · 15/07/2022 08:25

What is the point of sending children to school and teaching them to read if you don't expect them to be able to see the letter t and pronounce it correctly, or the letter d, or n etc.etc. etc. ? The word is sandwich, pronounced sandwich. Abandon every form of education. Send them to sort plastic waste and sweep chimneys from ages 4 to 10.

Letussee · 15/07/2022 08:25

Sand-widge.
or sarnie!
never heard of sam-widge!

LadyCatStark · 15/07/2022 08:27

InTheShadeOfTheFigTree · 15/07/2022 08:28

San-wich

BanjoVio · 15/07/2022 08:28

SaMwidge?!? With an ‘M’? Have people lost their minds?? 😭

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 15/07/2022 08:33

But tee and yes I do pronounce both ts. And that's me making a bacon butty when I get back from the school run

Schmz · 15/07/2022 08:35

People in sandwich Kent
say
saaaaaanwidge
🤣

NiqueNique · 15/07/2022 08:38

As it’s spelt, with the ‘d’.

WaffleAndGelato · 15/07/2022 08:39

DH says sand-witch with a definite t sound that's all the more odd because he's a Londoner and drops all his t's. And also adds a k to the end of words that end with ing I.e. summink instead of something, but that's a whole other story. I say sam-widge.

MajorCarolDanvers · 15/07/2022 08:49

San-witch or sand-witch

AlwaysLatte · 15/07/2022 08:55

I say Sanwidge with but my husband properly pronounced the D: Sand Witch, which I always tease him about.

CormoranStrike · 15/07/2022 08:56

I’m from Glasgow, so I say sang-wich .

Marmite27 · 15/07/2022 08:58

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 15/07/2022 03:06

SpaceJamtart · 15/07/2022 08:59

Sam-whiche,
I don't like how that looks written down, but unless I'm putting on my 'talking on the phone' voice, the other letters just dont come out

AppleHa · 15/07/2022 09:03

In my head I say sand wich , but listening to myself I actually say San wich

English speakers need to understand that some letters are silent.
