What's your favourite toast topping?

And do you have butter with it?

DC told me this morning they didnt want butter on the toast, just honey . I'm sure butter is a requirement if you're having honey.

That said, I had peanut butter, with no butter (I normally would but it was my nod to being healthy....

Not having butter or marg is just madness.

Edwardoo · 14/07/2022 12:36

Extra mature cheddar cheese with honey

Belovedfool · 14/07/2022 12:47

Marmite. Butter is non negotiable, but I hate it melted so wait for the toast to cool.
Yes, I know most people find that disgusting but melted butter is gross.

On toast...
Butter. Just butter and done twice
Peanut butter on top of butter
Cheese
Sardines yum
Peanut better and jam
Marmalade (has to be robertsons)
Cathedral city mature spread
Primula cheese with prawns

Everything with butter though and not just any butter. Lurpak please

Mrsjayy · 14/07/2022 12:57

Jam no butter (controversial)

Or pate with butter

I like the sound of all of these. The peanut butter mustn't contain sugar, salt or palm oil and I like my peanuts High roasted and crunchy...

Also love smoked mackerel fillets slightly warm in buttered toast with thinly sliced cherry tomatoes and thinly sliced cucumber plus a bit of salt and freshly ground black pepper

On thick toasted, buttered sourdough, Freshly poached eggs, with the yolk the texture of whipped cream and the whites properly cooked. Add salt and pepper.

Actually I'm off to make that for lunch! 🌹

Cold granary with Kerrygold butter on thick, with garlic salt.

longtompot · 14/07/2022 13:13

I have my toast cold, then butter it. Todays toppings were one piece with sliced Somerset goats cheese and a drizzle of honey and the other slice with some Philly topped with tuna sweetcorn mayo and a drizzle of sweet chilli sauce

atap · 14/07/2022 13:14

I rarely use butter on my toast unless I'm having marmite.
Peanut butter, jam, honey I'd all have without butter.
My favourite toast topping though is guacamole or hummus and tomatoes on top, both without butter!

Tunus · 14/07/2022 13:17

Marmite and butter or
Mashed avocado

Preferably on cold toast

alloutofcareunits · 14/07/2022 13:17

@Belovedfool is spot on! Butter must not be melted as the toast loses its crispness, stand two slices in a triangle until cool, layer on cold butter and top with marmite - best lunch ever 😀

Edwardoo · 14/07/2022 13:19

If the butter is cold don't you find it tears up the bread and you end up using too much butter? I love melted butter soggy bread. Add honey or jam and it's like eating a warm cake.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 14/07/2022 13:20

Just salted butter. It's the OG. It's unrivalled.

Sometimes I'll add some Tiptree Little Scarlet strawberry jam too.

Seeingadistance · 14/07/2022 13:25

Poached egg on toast - no butter but I put salt and pepper on the toast, then also on the egg.

Lovely!

parenthood1989 · 14/07/2022 13:27

Cheese. And yes to butter!

"too much butter"? Hmm

This is not a phenomenon I've ever experienced.

HRTQueen · 14/07/2022 13:39

Butter (like President non salted and Aldi salt crystals) with marmite or honey

peanut butter does not needed added butter

I like burnt toast it has to go a little cold before buttered so the butter sits on top or very lightly toasted with melted butter in

im low carbing at the moment 😫

Bemyclementine · 14/07/2022 13:46

Full fat cottage cheese (almost impossible to find), with butter, lots of butter. And salt

Yirk · 14/07/2022 13:49

Mashed banana

herrewegoagain · 14/07/2022 13:51

Roasted (not "toasted!) cheese, with jalapeños. Best ever!

AlphaAlpha · 14/07/2022 13:52

Butter, always butter with the exception of no butter when spreading Nutella (or biscoff spread)

Nearly divorced my husband when i found out he had been spreading butter first, then Nutella on child's (treat) breakfast.
His argument was that the butter 'primed' the toast for the Nutella.
I argued back that if he wasn't such a faffer, he could spread the Nutella on warm toast so it goes a bit melty.

He really is a bit of a tit sometimes.

Mrsjayy · 14/07/2022 13:52
