What's your favourite toast topping?

And do you have butter with it?

DC told me this morning they didnt want butter on the toast, just honey . I'm sure butter is a requirement if you're having honey.

That said, I had peanut butter, with no butter (I normally would but it was my nod to being healthy....

Smooth Brussels Páte, with butter on first

merrymornings · 14/07/2022 14:02

I like pesto and very mature cheddar.

Or Marmite with lots of butter.

Leftovers from a roast chicken dinner, smushed up a bit and with plenty of salt on are good too.

Wensleydale and a sweetish chutney works well.

As do garlicky, salty sprouts.

A melty cheddar, chorizo and oniony mess is amazing too.

Blackcurrant jam is good if I want something sweet.

Just Irish creamery butter.

All toast must be hot.

Nutella and peanut butter. Regular butter not required.
Butter and blackcurrant or greengage jam.
Mashed avocado with poached egg and cherry tomatoes. Butter required here too.

Flamingle18 · 14/07/2022 14:07

Banana, cut into slices and slightly squashed with a knife and butter

LilianLenton · 14/07/2022 14:07

Marmite (preferably the XO variety), with salted butter. If I want something sweet, blackcurrant jam (and butter). Always on proper homemade wholemeal bread.

Pollywoddles · 14/07/2022 14:11

A thick layer of cold butter. Toast has to be cold too obviously. It doesn’t need any other topping.

spagbog5 · 14/07/2022 14:14

Thick butter ,on preferably cold toast and bovril

Nap1983 · 14/07/2022 14:17

Peanut butter and banana, no butter or Marmalade thick cut with butter or poached eggs lol the list is endless 😂

EmbroidedFlowers · 14/07/2022 14:18

Marmite, avocado and chilli flakes.
For a more filling topping I spread on hummus and top with sliced avocado, jalapeños, fresh coriander, sunflower seeds, lemon juice and a crack of salt.

catinboots123 · 14/07/2022 14:20

I just had cheese, wholegrain mustard and cherry tomatoes. It was nice

Marmite. Butter is non negotiable, but I hate it melted so wait for the toast to cool.
Yes, I know most people find that disgusting but melted butter is gross.

This 100%. I prop up my toast in a pyramid to cool down before I butter and marmite it. DH thinks I'm peculiar.

alphapie · 14/07/2022 14:25

Nothing better than a nice thick bit of toast with proper butter and nothing else.

A good piece of bread needs no fancy clothes

Theoldwoman · 14/07/2022 14:28

Banana with cinnamon (always with butter)
Marmite with butter.

If I have peanut butter (rarely) it doesn’t have butter.

easyday · 14/07/2022 14:29

I like to put ketchup and extra mature Chedder then a sprinkling of chorizo on toast and stick it under the grill.
No butter and peanut butter and banana
Butter and Bovril
Butter and caster sugar
Butter and marmalade

Sartre · 14/07/2022 14:39

I wouldn’t use butter with peanut butter or chocolate spread, I think it tastes really weird. I like butter and honey best.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 14/07/2022 14:53

Hot toast with butter, marmite and blackcurrant jam, yum.

Cold toast, butter, ripe tomatoes and lots of Malden salt and pepper.

It's always got to be real butter...I'm away to make toast...

SanFranBear · 14/07/2022 15:15

Butter and marmite... lush!

I used to be a 'mo butter with peanut butter' but am a total convert as it definitely adds a certain something. I rarely have it as am watching what I eat but if I'm up for splurging, bloody love it!

Kerrrmieee · 14/07/2022 15:20

Hmmm...

I only popped on to say - beans 🤣

My now adult son would only have 'flat' butter ... i.e melted!

Wiglio · 14/07/2022 15:30

Grilled tomatoes on buttered sourdough for breakfast, my lockdown habit

Belovedfool · 14/07/2022 20:06

Oh wow. So there ARE other people who prefer cold toast!!! My entire family shudders when I leave mine to go cold. I have finally found my tribe.

Tunus · 15/07/2022 15:02

Bemyclementine · 14/07/2022 13:46

All if you eating cold toast!! I get cross if I'm interrupted and my toast goes cold. I've been kniwn to bin ut and start again (not these days though, now Im poor 🙄)

It has to be cold before buttered though not buttered hot then left to go cold

Roundaboot · 15/07/2022 15:10

I always put butter (or marg) on hot toast, regardless of topping. 90% of the time, my breakfast toast topping is peanut butter (no added salt or sugar, crunchy). The other 8% of the time it's peanut butter and banana (essential for a hangover) and the final 2% of the time it's peanut butter and jam.

Butter is not required for my favourite lunch toast topping which is avocado, mashed with olive oil, salt, pepper, chili flakes, nutritional yeast and a squeeze of lemon or lime. Topped with chopped tomatoes and some smoked Tabasco.

overthinkersanonnymus · 15/07/2022 15:25

Tuna Mayo
