Has anyone got a Dyson Fan

If you do, does it give out cold air, ie not just blow warm air into the room?

also, which one do you have? Would you buy again?

If you’re looking for something to beat the heat this summer, we’ve recently updated our best tower fan guide with fans that have been tried, tested and recommended by Mumsnetters, including info on Dyson fans. We hope it helps.

Our office bought a load of them because there was money left at the end of the financial year.

apparently nobody thinks they were worth the money. I wfh

KezzabellaB · 13/07/2022 20:53

We bought one last year and was seriously underwhelmed. 100% not worth the money IMO!

KittenKong · 13/07/2022 20:55

We have them in the office. Cold enough (my tower one at home is better and a lot cheaper) but I’m more entertained with sticking my arm through the hole like a sad magic act…

Why, when a £20 fan will do the same thing?

007DoubleOSeven · 13/07/2022 21:00

I have a table top one, it was given to me when it's previous owner didn't need it anymore.

I prefer it to standard fans and it's quiet at night. I do think a cheaper bladeless fan would probably give much better value for money though!

Oddly enough, my df has a Dyson tower bladeless and I swear it's cooler! I'd still opt for a cheaper version though and only then 'upgrade' if I wasn't happy with what I'd got .

bravotango · 13/07/2022 21:01

The only upside is that at night they are much quieter than a normal fan, if it's for day use then stick to the £20ers!

Cervinia · 13/07/2022 21:01

Yes I have the big donut one and it’s shit. My Argos floor standing one that was cheap and held together with dust is so much better.

Walkerbean16 · 13/07/2022 21:04

We have two they definitely cool the room down, I'd say they were worth the money.

MuffinMcLayLikeABundleOfHay · 13/07/2022 21:10

My dh wanted one but when he researched them there was a B&Q £27 tower fan that came up as better in all areas.

Evenstar · 13/07/2022 21:11

We have a normal sized one that does hot or cold and the floor standing tower one that does cold only. The tower one does really cool down the living room and the normal size one is better than an ordinary fan.

We would definitely replace them if needed, the smaller one is around 4 years old and the tower one about 3 years old and we do use the heating function on the small one sometimes in the winter.

Afonavon · 13/07/2022 21:16

We have one, and it is no better than any other fan. Overpriced!

jay55 · 13/07/2022 21:17

I have the hot/cool. It's shit at cooling.
I have it right under my desk to get any benefit.

hattie43 · 13/07/2022 21:24

I have the AM09 fantastic for heating not for cooling , it takes the edge off but don't think air conditioning

Do you have a link or a picture at all? I can't see one on their website at that price and I'm desperate for a decent one!

TheVillageBaker · 13/07/2022 21:27

We have them at work and they are absolutely shit. The cheap fans from argos work so much better.

wordlewordle · 13/07/2022 21:27

Prefer my meaco fan. Dyson fans are absolutely not worth the money. Same for vacuums!

Happydays321 · 13/07/2022 21:31

I've got a pedastal meaco fan, very efficient and really quiet. I think was £130.

DashOfMilkNoSugar · 13/07/2022 21:32

Thanks for asking the question OP we were talking today about getting one, don’t think we’ll bother.

Sunshineandrainbow · 13/07/2022 21:34

Love my meaco air circulator. Have not tried a Dyson as too pricey.

TokyoTen · 13/07/2022 21:35

We have 3 - one for each bedroom. Completely underwhelmed. I did buy another fan recently - its just a standard tower fan and was.1/3 price and no worse (actually possibly better as it has more fan area)

coolbottlesummer · 13/07/2022 21:36

I’m not going to bother. Thanks everyone. Thought it might have been better than the fan we bought last year. That just swirls warm air about.

Leafsontheline · 13/07/2022 21:39

I like it because it doesn’t produce that buffering effect you get with normal fans, it’s a gentler, constant breeze. It needs to be quite near you but I find them very effective. Also very quiet so in use at at night,m can sleep with it on, plus it has a timer so switches itself off.

GoAround · 13/07/2022 21:39

We have them. They’re quiet, look ok (for a fan) and if you go for the Pure ones also air purifiers. However, they are still only fans. You can’t buy a fan and expect it to be air conditioner! We also have a portable AC for the loft conversion as it gets seriously hot up there and there’s no comparison.

clipclop5 · 13/07/2022 21:44

Definitely not!! We bought one of the top range ones last year (it’s meant to heat, cool + filter the air, connects to your phone with real time stats etc) and it was a massive waste of £800. Last summer we actually discovered that turning it on to cool mode was making the room warmer by just blowing the air around

Floralnomad · 13/07/2022 21:46

We got ours years ago when they were one of the few quiet options - nowadays we have Meeco .
