Has anyone got a Dyson Fan

If you do, does it give out cold air, ie not just blow warm air into the room?

also, which one do you have? Would you buy again?

I've got one cost about £500 or £600. It was a waste of money. It does blow cold air into the room but I don't think it does any better than a bogstandard basic fan to be honest.

InFiveMins · 13/07/2022 21:49

The only benefit is that it is quiet. I have mine on at night and it doesn't disturb me at all.

SortingOffice · 13/07/2022 21:50

A fan can never cool the air, it doesn't give out cold air like an air con unit. A fan cools the person in front of it.
Best thing I ever bought was a proper mobile air con machine. Make the room cold within an hour, actually reduces the temperature.

We’ve got the Dyson Pure Hot + Cold Link and absolutely love it. We bought it through their refurbished section. I have a lot of allergies and it filters the air in our bedroom and makes a huge difference. The cold air is always cold. Can’t say I’ve used to hot much though!

JessicaPeach · 13/07/2022 22:01

I always want to buy one every summer but a couple of summers ago we got a dimplex tower fan and it's fabulous. We've just bought a second one

allboysherebutme · 13/07/2022 22:35

Not worth it heater is great, cold air useless.
I brought these from Afro's and they're great.

Save you’re money, they are rubbish. Get a Meaco instead.

OnTheBoardwalk · 13/07/2022 22:45

Absolute rubbish, my old fan I paid £50 for years ago does a much better job

friends with allergies have said as an air purifier it’s great but they also agree as an actual fan they are rubbish

User5386509 · 13/07/2022 22:52

We have 2, downstairs a pure cool me and upstairs a tower fan, both are quieter than normal fans so we can easily watch TV or sleep with it on, they also are less distracting.

User5386509 · 13/07/2022 22:57

There is 20% off at the Dyson refurbished shop on eBay

Dasher789 · 13/07/2022 23:41

I have the hot and cold one. Its fantastic

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/07/2022 23:44

Screwfix tower fan, absolutely brilliant and only about £30.

HardRockOwl · 14/07/2022 00:35

I'm always surprised that some people expect a fan to cool a room - that isn't their purpose

I have a couple of dyson fans. They're far superior to anything else I've tried - my opinion of course

We have on of the very early ones. It’s really just a fan, there’s no real magic to it. For the amount of air it pushes out it’s quiet, but a big, cheap “air mover” fan on low would do the same job.

MissMarianHalcombe · 14/07/2022 00:54

I love mine. I’ve used it every night for about three years. I even take it on holiday. Like other have said, I have it as it’s quiet so can sleep. I almost feel as though I can’t breathe when trying to sleep with the menopause sometimes & this light breeze makes all the difference. I also have used it lately in the day standing behind my laptop when on Teams meetings. From afar it looks ridiculous as a desk fan. The menopause & the heat we’ve had this week do not make a comfortable combination.

I have one - a hand-me-down - and it's great as a heater in the winter. However, yeah, it's nothing special as a cool air fan. Just get an Argos affair and put a frozen bottle of water in front of it. Definitely not worth what it costs!
(tangential but Dyson vacuum cleaners are awful these days, especially the cordless ones)

SisterAct123 · 14/07/2022 01:31

Yes and I don’t buy it.

I have the hot and cold fan. Love the extra features like it switching of the desired temp is reached etc.

the cooling fan I don’t use. I’m sure it would be good…. But maybe no better than a tower fan. Fans generally don’t do much though imo.

Agreed: never would buy a dyson

I agree. My cheap Hoover is miles better than the Dyson cordless vacuums at work.

I also agree with a pp that a fan is never going to do the job of air con, so what is the point in buying an expensive one?

BotCrossHuns · 14/07/2022 08:12

I've got one and I liked it; I got a refurbished one I think.

it's quiet, and I like that there are no blades to get really dusty and blow dust around. I have a combined kitchen/sitting room in a small flat, so other fans always got a thin film of grease from cooking and dust sometimes sticks to it.

It doesn't actively cool the air, but no fans do. I find that even when it's on a stronger level, it doesn't feel like as much of a wind - it's more subtle.

Whether it's really worth the money, I"m not sure. But I found it better than other fans. I'd look for a refurbished or second hand one.

CakeIsMyFavouriteAndBest · 14/07/2022 08:23

Another vote for Meaco. Cheaper than Dyson and you can get them from John Lewis or QVC quickly. Have one in each of our bedrooms and a taller one downstairs. Virtually silent unless you really go for it but even then still very quiet so you can sleep easily.
Love them.

skilpadde · 14/07/2022 08:37

I have a Dyson hot/cold fan... it's great in cold weather but completely pointless when it's hot.

I second the suggestion of putting a frozen bottle of water in front of your fan for a cooling effect.

Floralnomad · 14/07/2022 11:25

For anyone who is interested Costco do Meaco fans and they are cheaper than John Lewis .

So disappointed with this, I wanted to get a small air conditioner, as Mum has one and it does work, but when I got ill dh chose the Dyson because he thought the hose of the air conditioner would be too awkward.I know the hose is a pain but in the heat the air conditioner would be so much better.
