It's hot - what's for tea tonight?

I've got a pizza. Just made up some coucous which will do a couple of nights and will add salad.

My colleague is going around to someone's house tonight for tea and they're cooking a roast - no way could I stand being in the kitchen for an hour or two regularly checking meat and potatoes, as well as the hot plates on.

home made lamb kebabs with salad it was a huge success with kids

MackenCheese · 11/07/2022 19:19

At the moment it looking like a big bowl of cereal and cold milk for the DC, as I've just got in from work and too tired and hot to cook. Just don't tell social services! 😂

Cloudy18 · 11/07/2022 19:22

Chicken salad wraps, it was about all I could muster the energy for after getting in from work today!

Thanks for the idea which I´ll steal from you, @Cloudy18 I´ve got some wraps and ham etc. I´ll make those!! Enjoy!

PlentyOFool · 11/07/2022 19:46

I'm not sure how the PP makes their fried rice, but I know that it has to be made with day old, cold rice and has mirin/oyster sauce as a flavour base. Recipe Tin Eats has a good recipe.

TheChosenTwo · 11/07/2022 20:37

Hurrah, dh has risen from his Illness and is making us a very spicy lamb curry, potato and chickpea curry, Saag paneer (cheating here as we already had paneer!), garlic rice and some naan type breads 🥳
it will be eaten in the garden in an hour or so.

Vegan chicken breast with vegetable rice, broccoli and carrots. Bag of ready chopped broccoli and carrots just thrown in the steamer. Don't even feel like eating tbh

Raclette in the garden. The fridge and kitchen stink like merry hell and have done since DH bought the cheese last week.

The raclette cheese was innocent. The house still stinks. He bought Camembert at the same time.
I just felt the need to correct that.

Vegan chicken breast - how does that work?

Although I recently saw a cartoon which showed two cows eating grass in a field with one saying to the other "I suppose we are plant-based meat..."

Have you really never come across fake meat products? They’re pretty mainstream these days.

Salad Nicoise with salad potatoes, beetroot, egg, edamame, lettuce, cucumber & tuna.

you all have such fabulous ideas!! We have stir fry and ribs tonight.

those of you that are having cous-cous… do you make from scratch or buy a flavoured one? What do you put in it? Mine are always bland.

Decafflatteplease · 12/07/2022 18:08

"roast" chicken in the slow cooker. Wedges In the air fryer. Salad, coleslaw, corn on the cob. Easy!

chiffchaffchiff · 12/07/2022 18:17

I usually make mine with the bigger Israeli couscous rather than the normal couscous but I'm sure the same principles apply. I use light vegetable stock to cook, a squirt of tomato paste, a few tablespoons of good olive oil (more important for Israeli couscous to stop it sticking), a can of chickpeas, some cooked green veg (peas, asparagus, broccoli), feta or goats cheese and more often than not, some chilli flakes. A squeeze of lemon juice on top helps too.

TheBestSpoon · 12/07/2022 18:18

Chicken and sausage stew (defrosted batch cooking so just needs a few minutes warming on the hob) with pasta and frozen peas. Probably a sneaky Magnum after DS1 is in bed Not a chance I'm turning the oven on in this heat!

Spanielsarepainless · 12/07/2022 18:22

Pork pie, salad and cole slaw, then a raspberry trifle from Sainsbury's.

Mydogatemypurse · 12/07/2022 18:23

Crisps Celery and hummus

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 12/07/2022 18:26

@PurpleDaisies

Yes I have.
It was the the use of 'vegan' and 'chicken' together. I thought that vegans avoided associations with animals as a food commodity.

Shsios · 12/07/2022 18:29

My children and husband had keema with potato, pan fried carrots and green beans with green peas rice. I will have a sardine salad with fresh bread which I baked.

maddiemookins16mum · 12/07/2022 19:00

We’ve just had Frikadellen (not sure of the spelling), in warmed pitta bread with salad and dips.
It was lovely.
We’re having fruit jelly and ice-cream in a bit. DMIL (92) is a bit poorly so we’re trying to keep her fluids up and cold jelly helps.

No. They just don’t eat animals or animal products and they try to avoid animal cruelty wherever it arises. Nothing to do with avoiding fake chicken nuggets.

Decafflatteplease · 13/07/2022 09:59

Chicken fried rice here tonight. DC will pick out the peas 🤣

goldfinchonthelawn · 13/07/2022 19:16

Roast aubergines with tahini and pomegranate molasses dressing with salad and brown rice tossed in chillis, lime and spring onions. I've been dreaming about it for days but no aubergines in the shops until today.

A580Hojas · 13/07/2022 20:45

Bacon, mushroom, garlic, parsley and cream cheese with fusilli pasta, fresh steamed french beans. The good thing about pasta is it cooks quickly!

Fabboush · 13/07/2022 21:56

I made this tonight Hoi An chicken tonight.

It's a lovely temperature 19°c in Manchester today with gentle breeze.
