I rode up from Whitby and got caught in the rain. There was a bad crash near Fancy Bank, on the A171 and everything was diverted - all villages and tailbacks, although I managed to keep getting ahead on the motorbike.

I stopped for petrol in 'Boro and what timing! I pulled up and it came down, so out came the waterproof trousers. I was doing 55 up the A 19 and couldn't believe the speed of some cars, through standing water.

AlviarinAesSedai · 15/07/2023 12:20

Just had some thunder, yeah 😊 .
I must admit I was hoping the rain would sort out the muggy weather. But no.
Anyone get caught in the Durham road closes last night, my DH did.
Because he has about 4 different ways home, he hadn’t seen the signs, so was not happy. I didn’t tell him(Facebook Durham council page) because I thought he already knew.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 15/07/2023 16:53

Well that was a fun day with our scout group! Heavy rain, thunder storms and hail. Still had a great time and managed to keep the fire going and cook for around 40 people! Shame that it has been so rubbish for streets of brass and Sunderland Streets. Think Sunderland Streets is cancelled and they had an amazing headliner.

AlviarinAesSedai · 15/07/2023 17:52

Kubix Herrington park is on today and tomorrow.
Streets of brass Durham hopefully should still be good. The downpours haven’t lasted long.
Well done for cooking for so many people.

SinnerBoy · 16/07/2023 07:06

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · Yesterday 16:53

My friend was at Kubix yesterday and said it was great.

I drove my girl to her pal's in Jesmond and just as I was getting in the car to go back, it started to come down. I was driving along the Coast Road, wipers going in a frenzy and it was still tough to see.

I was doing 50 - 55, faster than I wanted to, but cars behind were coming up so fast, in standing water. Some of them were passing at what seemed like 100 mph.

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/07/2023 07:40

The rain was awful. Loads of floods but today is set to be nice. I will be unblocking drains 🤣

TheSummerySilveryPussycat · 16/07/2023 22:22

'Twas all DD's fault. She got married yesterday.
Actually, she loved that it thundered.

AlviarinAesSedai · 22/07/2023 14:01

@TheSummerySilveryPussycat
congratulations 🥂 🍾 to your DD.
The rock version of the Kubix is on today, the weather is bloody awful.
Anyone go see The Who and UB40 at Chester le Street on Wednesday. Was supposed to be brilliant.
Hate hate the ☔️☔️☔️🦆🦆🌧️.

Someaddedsugar · 22/07/2023 18:32

Congratulations to your DD @TheSummerySilveryPussycat. Hope everyone's well! I've been hectic with work and keep meaning to check in and say hi!

When do you go to Faru @AlviarinAesSedai?

I was in the Range earlier today and saw some ceramic pumpkin things and it made me think of this thread from last Halloween and the glass pumpkins that one of the bargain shops was selling. It also threw me that there is autumn/Halloween stuff out in nearly every homewares shop and the school summer holidays have only just started!

AlviarinAesSedai · 22/07/2023 21:41

We went to Faru last week was amazing!!
Bloody expensive but amazing. Hopefully we can go every 3 months or do.
We have been back to Coarse 4 times.
I’ve got one of the Home Bargains glass pumpkins. Love a bit of autumn decor. Not cool but who cares. 😆
Feels like a muggy autumn already!

SinnerBoy · 22/07/2023 21:52

It was a bit damp today, me and the daughter walked from Whitley to Tynemouth Market. Except she told he her foot hurt. Turns out that a whiteboard fell on her at school and took a chunk out of the back of her ankle!

She didn't tell me yesterday - there's a plaster on it.

We got the Metro from Cullercoats. I got her some bits of crystal jewellery and a "silver" spoon with a tiny ceramic Dutch clog on the tip of the handle.

AlviarinAesSedai · 29/07/2023 13:57

Just seen Durham (St Leonard’s) have cancelled the school bus!
Lots of parents complaining about North Road. I agree I wouldn’t want my 11yrs waiting. Because it’s horrible.
But one day the bus station will be finished. 😆
Also saw that Brewdog aren’t happy waiting for the new milburngate development. I was looking forward to the Everyman cinema.

AlviarinAesSedai · 29/07/2023 14:01

Also Prince Bishops is going to be redesigned. Hotel above shops and student accommodation. I just wish we had a covered shopping area as it rains a lot.
Wonder what is going on with the fires in both Newcastle and Ushaw.

Whiskeypowers · 29/07/2023 14:29

Is Everyman cinema not happening now?
Cancelling the school bus is poor - north road is not a place I’d want my children waiting for a school bus either

sure I also read there is no bus service to newton hall and arnison after 9pm now or did I imagine that?

PickAChew · 29/07/2023 15:33

You didn't imagine it, @Whiskeypowers . I think GNE will still serve Arnison in the evenings but Newton Hall has nothing after 10pm, now.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 29/07/2023 17:07

The bus situation is causing uproar. It is quite amusing. Some parents are trying to sort private hire but most companies won't take it on because of the known behaviour issues on certain routes. Doesn't surprise me, the kids on the route mine are on are feral.

My dc got the public bus last school year when the school bus prices were sky high and it was fine. I know North Road has reputation but it is 3.30pm not 23.30. It is more capacity and reliability I am worried about. They only went back to school bus because the Arriva started being late or not showing up about 60% of the time.

Anyway I feel for the school, they just can't afford to run the services as they lost the funding for subsidising the buses so about half the cost of the bus has been coming from the school budget and they just can't keep doing it in the current financial climate and now with fares being £1 for kids on the public buses a lot would switch to that anyway so they would be running school services half empty and having to pay for all the empty seats. Not sustainable of we want them to be able to afford such luxuries as teachers salaries.

AlviarinAesSedai · 29/07/2023 17:22

I think Everyman is still coming, just when. When will the building be signed off.
The last time we were in York, we went to the Everyman cinema. It was like sitting on the couch at home. 😆
I’m hoping for before Christmas.

AlviarinAesSedai · 29/07/2023 17:28

Anyone go to the ‘Durham county show’?
I think on the whole County Durham bus service isn’t great.
We have no metro.
Mind saying that, I only like going to the coast? Some metro stations don’t feel that safe.
The bus fare of £1 is great, especially as it’s under 21.
I’ve been using the bus to Durham as is only £2 a journey.

AlviarinAesSedai · 29/07/2023 17:30

Nearly forgot, has anyone been the Earth 🌍 in the cathedral? Looks really good.
I enjoyed the 🌚 the other year.

PickAChew · 29/07/2023 17:46

I've been enjoying the £2 fares to Newcastle when I don't have a young man with a bus pass to hitch a ride with!

twistyizzy · 29/07/2023 17:49

I was meant to be showing at Durham County both days but lame horse = not going anywhere!

TheSummerySilveryPussycat · 29/07/2023 18:41

That's ridiculous about the 64. One of the few buses that ply between the Newton Hall side of Durham and the Gilesgate side of Durham.

PickAChew · 29/07/2023 23:10

It's only once a hour on the Gilesgate side in the evening and on Sunday, anyhow, @TheSummerySilveryPussycat but that and the 20 are incredibly useful for crossing town.

Whiskeypowers · 31/07/2023 13:51

PickAChew · 29/07/2023 15:33

You didn't imagine it, @Whiskeypowers . I think GNE will still serve Arnison in the evenings but Newton Hall has nothing after 10pm, now.

unbelievable!
