Ah, not the one I was thinking of.

Someaddedsugar · 18/04/2023 19:49

Are you thinking of Brockbushes @SinnerBoy?

It's been nice having the sunshine today - hope it continues! Although I hope the grass cutting ends soon as it's been non-stop round here today 😂

@lifelongfrugaleer horrific is definitely the right word. I don't know why I thought it was a good idea!

°Are you thinking of Brockbushes^

No, it was somewhere down South, Borough way.

Flumpaphone · 19/04/2023 06:24

We were at Wolsingham Antiques fair on Saturday, it was quite quiet, a lot of the stall holders were moaning there wasn't a lot of footfall.

Mind you, there was a lot of overpriced junk but it was nice to wander around outside and it not be freezing

Gilead · 19/04/2023 23:48

I popped by the antiques fair, came back early though as my wheelchair wasn’t coping!

AlviarinAesSedai · 20/04/2023 08:33

Is Maingill’s the one that was on the TV a couple of years ago?
The antiques fair sounded nice. But I hate things like that, same as car boot sales hate them too.
Anyone hear or go to the event yesterday about ‘Pictmatic’ at Redhills Durham. Was going to take my DF because he still uses all of the phases. In fact I use a bit of ‘pitmatic’ myself. Always say bait instead of packed lunch etc.

SinnerBoy · 20/04/2023 13:29

AlviarinAesSedai · Today 08:33

Anyone hear or go to the event yesterday about ‘Pictmatic’ at Redhills Durham.

They were talking about that on Radio Newcastle, on Tuesday. One of the presenters is an NE lady and she didn't know what bait, or chebble were!

AlviarinAesSedai · 20/04/2023 16:22

That’s shocking @SinnerBoy , my DF always say chebble, he gets wrong off my DM to talk proper 😆. But I can’t imagine never saying bait, packed lunch is such a mouthful.
I wish I had gone but it’s my GF who was a miner. My DF is a lug, watter etc. Sometimes it’s funny because his GC can’t understand him! And instead of being clearer he does it more!

SinnerBoy · 20/04/2023 16:23

Good for him! There's loads of words I used to hear, but not for ages.

AlviarinAesSedai · 20/04/2023 16:34

Yes, it’s a pretty much dead dialect. No working miner’s left.
I’m proud to be a miner’s grandchild but also glad that this generation no longer have to go down into the bowels of earth to work 30cm seams of coal.

SinnerBoy · 20/04/2023 16:36

Yes, it's really sad, but I'm in my 50s and other kids my age used to use more dialect words. We weren't allowed to....

AlviarinAesSedai · 20/04/2023 18:00

That’s so sad re Side gallery.
It was always a battle between my DF and my speak properly DM. 😆
I’m a similar age. I would have preferred the event meeting to have been maybe county hall or town hall. I have only ever seem Redhills from train coming in to Durham station.

TheSummerySilveryPussycat · 20/04/2023 22:42

When I was a CAB advisor in Wear Valley in the 1990s, more than one client actually apologised for speaking Pitmatic.

AlviarinAesSedai · 21/04/2023 11:16

That’s so sad. We shouldn’t be ashamed of our heritage.
On a happier not I have finally booked for ‘Coarse’ in Durham, not till next of May.
Anyone also looking forward to the other new fine dining restaurant on Silver Street called ‘Faru’. They use to work at House of Tides.
Happier with that than the new ‘Stack’ more cheap food places and more coffee shops. But I’m not the customer they want.

AlviarinAesSedai · 23/04/2023 09:52

The new restaurant has opened, just seen a review for ‘Faru’. Is very expensive so will have to be a yearly treat. Also checking the pictures, I would want to be sat upstairs because view of river looked lovely.

Someaddedsugar · 25/04/2023 22:13

@AlviarinAesSedai oooh enjoy Coarse!

That me new Durham restaurant looks lovely. I've suggested to DP we get booked in 😂

AlviarinAesSedai · 26/04/2023 13:28

Definitely @Someaddedsugar . Don’t think I can justify nearly £400 if we have wine course as well!

SinnerBoy · 26/04/2023 14:15

I don't think I spend that in a month for the whole family!

AlviarinAesSedai · 26/04/2023 19:31

I know unreal. Faru. I think food for 10 courses is nearly £100.

Someaddedsugar · 26/04/2023 19:31

£400!!! I didn't realise it would be that much. Maybe we'll give that one a miss 😂

OP posts:
AlviarinAesSedai · 26/04/2023 20:04

@Someaddedsugar is £98 for courses and £60 for wine flight and then 12.5% service charge . With £10 extra for extra cheeses course!

AlviarinAesSedai · 26/04/2023 20:06

So not quite £400 but £356 ish. 😆

Someaddedsugar · 26/04/2023 22:44

I'll wait for the reviews 😂. That's definitely a one off isn't it! Coarse seems a bargain in comparison!

@lifelongfrugaleer while I remember, is there a good garden centre near to us? I'm looking for herbs and peonies but not sure where to go.
