The book of Condolences is in the art gallery part next to the Gala in Durham.
Saw lots of people going, was slightly marred by the homeless men outside.
Was the men who normally hang about on north road. I know I’m awful but I don’t care they make me feel uncomfortable.

nildesparandum · 09/09/2022 21:45

St Mary's Cathedral in Newcastle has a book of condolence for the Queen in place from today for people to write messages.

AlviarinAesSedai · 11/09/2022 09:49

Good luck to everyone running the Great North Run.

Someaddedsugar · 16/09/2022 21:00

Has anyone been to Coarse in Durham? So pleased to see the chef got the financial backing!

I haven't heard about this restaurant but the photos look fab! Whereabouts is it in Durham?

Someaddedsugar · 17/09/2022 06:52

I think it's near the Head of Steam on North Road @ZumaBeach

@Someaddedsugar we are going tonight! I’ll report back!

IroningThrone · 17/09/2022 17:50

Anyone else finding it bloody freezing all of a sudden? I had my winter coat on this morning at work!

Someaddedsugar · 17/09/2022 19:13

Oooh have a fab time @Florelei!

@IroningThrone it's gone from lovely and sunny to winter sun all of a sudden!

So we are just in from Coarse. We could only get a 5pm table!

it was INCREDIBLE. Every course seemed to be better than the last. Great value as well.

Someaddedsugar · 17/09/2022 21:05

Looks amazing @Florelei!

Just seen an Instagram post about ‘Course’. Food looks just like yours Florele.

lifelongfrugaleer · 18/09/2022 07:12

That looks delicious

Florelei · 18/09/2022 10:06

@AlviarinAesSedai Ive just seen that as well I think! The restaurant was really busy and we saw several hopeful groups getting turned away.

I hope it is a real success!

myrtleWilson · 18/09/2022 10:33

I saw Coarse had opened but hadn't seen any food in the wild so to speak - that looks delicious Florelei!

Has anyone been into the new bookshop in Durham city yet? Waterstones have had delivery/logistics issues and a book I ordered from them a couple of months ago never arrived so hot footed it over to The Bound in Whitley Bay to pick up two new cookbooks (Mezcla and Crave - recommend both) Am hoping the new indie in Durham is good!

AlviarinAesSedai · 18/09/2022 11:20

That should have said Coarse. I obviously think it’s spelt wrong.
Was so weird it coming up on my I Instagram feed.
Didnt know there was a new book house in Durham

Is this the new bookshop on the Riverwalk? I popped into there earlier. The staff were helpful - some delicious looking cakes on offer too!

AlviarinAesSedai · 18/09/2022 17:25

Opening date for Boyes is 23 September. Received leaflets though door.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 18/09/2022 18:01

Coarse looks great. As does the new book shop. Will be going in to Durham on Saturday as children's book club is back on at Waterstones so obviously I'll need to double book shop and investigate the new shop. And maybe the cake.

AlviarinAesSedai · 18/09/2022 19:16

Lovely cake shops near both, then. I also like the waffle shop near Waterstones.

Someaddedsugar · 23/09/2022 19:02

Boyes was very popular when I was at the Arnison Centre this evening - we even got a branded mug when we paid 😂.

Hope Boyes is a success. Will be visiting next week (mugs will have ran out by them).
Where is the Bookshop in Riverwalk? I was there yesterday and missed it.
Was weird in Durham yesterday with the new students etc. No queues in Tesco was good while it lasted. 😆

I know what you mean re: students. Boots seemed to be out of all basic toiletries the other day grrr.

New bookshop is where "Scoop" used to be on Riverwalk, sort of opposite Timpsons. They look to be starting book clubs and events which would be nice.

PickAChew · 26/09/2022 23:16

No mugs in Boyes when I popped in, this morning, but they have the most amazing wall of gutermann thread. I'd have taken a photo, while it was still fully stocked, if I hadn't been desperate for a wee!
