ecstatically pleased to hear Kemi Badenoch is running for PM! A breath of fresh air!

Oh god is there going to be a stream of these faux enthusiastic Tory leader post 🙄

Please just get a proper social media campaign manager.

PermanentTemporary · 09/07/2022 05:36

They can't all be breaths of fresh air.

More like 'breath of air from the Cabinet of the most weak and corrupt PM we've ever had'

HannahSternDefoe · 09/07/2022 05:37

Who?

I suspect whoever the new leader of the Tory party is, it will be someone I've heard of.

FungalNail · 09/07/2022 06:03

i was a life long Labour voter who abandoned the party last election. Now a floating voter with no loyalties, i feel all the parties are rubbish. However I do think Kemi badenock could be a game changer for the conservatives.

donquixotedelamancha · 09/07/2022 06:21

I agree, OP. Best of a bad bunch by far.

She won't get it because she lacks experience (though so does Sunak) but I think she'll be leader one day.

Maireas · 09/07/2022 06:25

A lifelong Labour supporter touting a Conservative leadership candidate who wants to reduce government spending, supports public sector cuts and pay freezes?
An interesting turnabout, OP.

All the parties are "rubbish", yet you've settled on the Conservatives?
Just how bad do you think the others are?

Indeed. They must think everyone on MN is a bit daft.

balalake · 09/07/2022 06:33

I'd doubt Kemi Badenoch would even get to the second round of MPs voting. Some of the candidates I think have a level of support as a minimum guaranteed.

FungalNail · 09/07/2022 06:43

No I haven’t settled on the conservatives, I’ve simply assessed this months potential candidates, hopeful of an improvement on Boris

FungalNail · 09/07/2022 06:47

She seems positioned centrally politics wise

I think Kemi is wonderful

I would disagree, I think she's firmly right of centre. Not on the right of the party, but certainly not a centrist.
Anyway, if you vote Conservative I could see why you might support her bid.

Op is a floating voter by the sounds of it, not supportive of any party. Im the same, with the rise of each new party leader making me hopeful change might be possible. I had particularly high hopes for kier and Jeremy C at one point, which were subsequently dashed. It was pretty obvious that Boris’ shifty moral compass would catch him out.

Maireas · 09/07/2022 09:49

I agree, @Sloebluewalls, and I think we've lived through tricky years politically. I was a committed Labour voter until Jeremy Corbyn. What to do?
Unless and until mainstream parties address what concerns voters, it'll be unsatisfactory.

bluebell34567 · 09/07/2022 10:02

who?

bluebell34567 · 09/07/2022 10:02

hot air more like.

LadyWithLapdog · 09/07/2022 10:09

Kemi who?

You are confusing a breath of fresh air for a breath of the same old Brexit farts which came out of her master Johnson.

All these no-hopers are putting their hats in the ring even though they know they are no-hopers. Then they can do some trades with whoever has more of a chance and lend them their supporters in exchange for a cushy job.

apintortwo · 09/07/2022 10:43

A breath of fresh air

We've had recent breaths of fresh air that ended in tears. We are going through a crisis and it needs to be crystal clear where the leader's loyalty lies. It's not a time for experiments.

My comment is not specifically about this candidate as I don't know her, but more in general about people calling for bold decisions, etc

apintortwo · 09/07/2022 10:44

This is not what Conservatives support

DrDinosaur · 09/07/2022 11:10

I've no idea what her chances are, but Kemi Badenoch appears to be intelligent, logical and honest. She would be a great improvement on the over promoted white males who've had the job recently.

LadyWithLapdog · 09/07/2022 11:36

Not honest, no. Unless you count hacking your opponent’s computer (Labour Harriet Harman’s) as an honest gesture. She does sound clever but is bat shit Brexiter.

LadyWithLapdog · 09/07/2022 11:37

Clever as in born in privilege and made her way up to be able at age 42 to think of being PM.

LadyWithLapdog · 09/07/2022 11:38

(You can see I’ve been reading her Wikipedia page.)
