ecstatically pleased to hear Kemi Badenoch is running for PM! A breath of fresh air!

While it's always somewhat amusing to see Kemi Badenoch make mincemeat of fellow Tory MPs like Caroline Nokes, I do think that PPs have pointed out some concerning political views of hers about the function and nature of the state and government, and of course her history as part of Johnson's bloody appalling government.

Also, isn't it interesting how only now, as this leadership contest bears down upon them, do former members of that government like Sunak and Badenoch decide to really push back against identity politics and gender woo ideology, when they could and should have been doing this years ago as a government? Instead they let British women take the flack first. They let us face threats and intimidation; risk our jobs; and on occasion be assaulted. Where were they then?

LadyWithLapdog · 10/07/2022 09:57

Good question. Where where they then and where are they now when so many things affecting women are so shit under the Tories. Eg pensions for women born in the 50s

Yes I like my MPs to be experienced in hacking.

She must have been 28/29 when she hacked Harman's account. Old enough to know better. I would have been sacked for that.

It's a good point. I had forgotten this, even though I read about it when she was first parachuted in to become our MP.

It isn't a daft prank as someone suggested. It is a criminal offence. Maybe she isn't so unlike Boris there, with his partygate etc.

Maggiethecat · 12/07/2022 23:47

More recently she was criticised for her improper treatment of a journalist whose questioning she did not care for. Naturally, no. 10 defended the rogue behaviour.

Breath of fresh air not.

Oh yes. Kemi as a vindinctive petty backbiter, I'd forgotten that. Something of a pattern of using tech to attack people for no apparent rational or major reason.

donquixotedelamancha · 13/07/2022 07:58

More recently she was criticised for her improper treatment of a journalist whose questioning she did not care for. Naturally, no. 10 defended the rogue behaviour.

I don't think her tweet was improper. The journo made up that she'd refused to participate in the vaccine promotion video and then sent two rude emails demanding she respond.

Black MPs get a lot of shit like this, I'm not surprised she was pissed off.

Maybe she isn't so unlike Boris there, with his partygate etc.

I don't like Badenoch's politics either but its nuts to equate her with Johnson. Having disagreeable political views doesn't make someone a bad person.

LadyWithLapdog · 13/07/2022 08:32

Read the article. Why are you making this about race or colour re Badenoch? The journalist is also female and black and was harrassed as a consequence of B’s action. But she was defended by Allegra Stratton so we all know how much we trust that.

LadyWithLapdog · 13/07/2022 08:32

And again, minimising behaviour.

Fladdermus · 13/07/2022 08:45

I think she'd make a great tory leader. She has all the necessary attributes, criminality (hacking), manipulative (inciting harrassment of journalists), divisive (war on woke) and lacks compassion (doing away SEN support in schools. She'll fit right in.

GreenAxolotl · 13/07/2022 08:52

This Kemi Badenoch? ""We must require schools to concentrate on effective whole-class teaching of rigorous subjects rather than allocating tight resources to superfluous support staff and peripheral activities."

Yeah, absolutely. Breath of fresh air. Let's get rid of all those superfluous support staff in schools. Like, umm, no hang on I'll think of an example of what superfluous support staff is in a minute.

SpaceGoatFarm · 13/07/2022 09:05

Wow, this was posted just before the 'she knows what a woman is' post fluffing Badenoch over in feminism, by a previous labour voting voter over there no less! Mad coincidence!

itsgettingweird · 13/07/2022 09:14

Not for children aged between 5-18 she isn't.

She wants to remove their superfluous support and peripheral activities.

The future workforce if our country are going to be punished by her.

Not really a fab campaign point is it?!

QuebecBagnet · 13/07/2022 09:24

She’s probably the best out of them.

though with Tory candidates that’s a bit like saying which pile of shit smells nicest

donquixotedelamancha · 13/07/2022 09:25

Read the article. Why are you making this about race or colour re Badenoch?

Because the video was about raising vaccine uptake in the black community. How many white ministers get asked why they didn't participate in a particular vaccine promotion?

I'm not saying the journo was racist (although I am saying they were lying that she'd refused to participate) but I think for Kemi it was about race. She's got a pattern of biting back when it's implied she should think or do something because she's black.

There is loads to criticise about KB's politics but I think the criticisms of her character are weak.

PaperTyger · 13/07/2022 09:26

@PlanetNormal

That's a good peice in the times.

They will all be on sky being interviewed by a virtual audience.

I had warmed to kemi but as the mother of a child with Sen I can't support removing class help.
We need more ta trained in Sen/teachers trained in Sen/ properly trained senco not less.
It's absolutely appalling state of affairs right now and many people in prison have literacy issue's..

So she's lost me on that.
But then I have daughters and I'm terrified of their rights being eroded.

Spudlet · 13/07/2022 11:32

As a mum with a child with SEN, hell would freeze before I voted for a party led by that woman. (Hell would have to be getting distinctly chilly before I voted for any of them, mind you). But she comes across as particularly heartless. No doubt the Tories will adore her.

@donquixotedelamancha - I think you should read the article in its entirety. HuffPost had to correct the record - they had not published that KB refused to participate . In fact they raised the questions first as part of investigative journalism and this is what upset KB and led to her petty but dangerous response of tweeting snapshots of the query. This in turn led to attacks on the journo.

Context is everything- white males don’t get asked about their participation in vaccine promotion videos but KB is a black MP and given the uptake issues in the black community it would be reasonable to enquire about her non participation. A simple statement of the reason may have been sufficient to quell any concerns that might encourage vaccine resistance.

Tweeting about clickbite and journos undermining the vaccine promotion in response to the enquiry was very disingenuous.

I don’t find her pettiness and underhand tactics to be refreshing at all.
