For me it’s Ben Wallace or Liz Truss. No idea how good either would be but for some reason I am drawn to them.

who do you all think it should be?

OP posts:
PedantScorner · 09/07/2022 11:44

Jeremic

No takers for Suella, then?

Fuck no!

I was thrilled when she dropped 10% of the vote at locals this year as it looked like we may get her out.

I wouldn't inflict her on the rest of country!

itsgettingweird · 09/07/2022 11:48

Oh and I'll add Zahawi to my NOT list. I really respected him as vaccines minister and education minister but I don't trust him so much anymore.

Louise0701 · 09/07/2022 11:51

@AchillesLastStand 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Louise0701 · 09/07/2022 11:53

I didn’t realise how many politically ignorant people were on MN. Why are people saying Keir Starmer? (Not least because he would be a shit PM) but it will be a conservative PM.

Summerwhereareyou · 09/07/2022 11:58

Oh yes Emily thornbury! The darling of White van man !!

Honestly?

I think we need to get rid of party politics or reduce its scope.

Lift hugely important areas like education and NHS out of politics.

Keep Westminster for other matters.

Maybe have two PM's at once, from labor and conservative!

MarshaBradyo · 09/07/2022 12:03

TheHateIsNotGood · 08/07/2022 23:16

Emily Thornberry with Rachael Reeves as Chancellor. I know they're Labour, but the Tories are in such disarray so it's time for Labour to get on the case and sort themselves out, putting their own proposals forward, relying far less on criticizing the current govt for electoral mileage and make their own headway.

Get an electable Labour Leader that some Tories will sway to (eg: Thornberry).

The only thing that stands out to me re Thornberry was the huge misstep and snobbery that derailed her career

Even Cons voters don’t want that although maybe the left are more comfortable with it - I do see similar views on here sometimes from the left so maybe

Summerwhereareyou · 09/07/2022 12:08

Thornbury is arrogant and core labour and the red wall will never ever vote for her.

I think a business person with a background from not wealth, can do attitude...don't know who that is.

janesmithsdog · 09/07/2022 12:14

Not Suella, as everyone who has worked with her seems to declare her incompetent.

Not Penny, as I don’t trust her on woman’s rights and protections.

Kemi seems grounded, clever and sensible.

Other than that, I feel a bit much of a muchness about all of them tbh.

No takers for Suella, then?

I actually think she looks like a badass. Working mother, not too old-not too young, had a previous career (barrister) straight talker and has balls.

I don’t know much about her but on surface stats I would vote.

Hopefully she would sort out the expense of childcare issue,

lastminutedotcom22 · 09/07/2022 12:19

Rick?

Who do you all want to see as the next PM?
KirstenBlest · 09/07/2022 12:21

@janesmithsdog , so you're suggesting someone's suitability to run the country depends on their fertility?

MilitantFaucet · 09/07/2022 12:24

I didn’t realise how many politically ignorant people were on MN. Why are people saying Keir Starmer? (Not least because he would be a shit PM) but it will be a conservative PM.

the question is about next pm, not next leader of the Conservative party. I’m entitled to want a non Tory as next pm even if it’s very unlikely to happen in reality. Doesn’t make me ignorant.

Because the question was, who do we WANT to be the next PM, not who do we realistically think may be.

I'm perfectly well aware that the Tories are in power, but I don't want them to be. I don't want any of them to be the next PM.

Assume she is your MP. What’s she done?

Have you heard her speak? That might change your mind.

KirstenBlest · 09/07/2022 12:41

@Louise0701 , same as @zoomstyle .

We're not politically ignorant, and we seem to be more capable than you of reading the OP.

who do you [all ]think it should be?

Babyroobs · 09/07/2022 12:47

I would say Rishi if it wasn't for his and his wife's fortunes and the tax business with his wife.

Heresme33 · 09/07/2022 12:50

None of them be the same old jolly school boys club that have no clue about life in the real world.

the80sweregreat · 09/07/2022 12:56

Ben Wallace has backed out

I'm pretty sure they know that are are very clearly stating their opinion on the Tory party in 2 simple words

I'd have asked "have you met her"

That would DEFINITELY change their mind Grin

Louise0701 · 09/07/2022 13:00

@KirstenBlest 😑 ok 😂😂😂 shouldn’t expect anything sensible from someone who wants starmer as PM

MarshaBradyo · 09/07/2022 13:01

Wallace is very good at his current job, I did feel disappointed but at least he’s doing well now in something crucial

😂

I did try to YouTube. There’s not much out there tbh. Am sure I could find something but was only a quick look last night.

On first glance don’t really like many of them. This Ben Wallace sounds interesting but don’t like the military background and defence sec position. I think it looks paradoxically both aggressive and weak at the same time - As in we are so scared of Russia we need a military PM.

Dont know much about this Tom chap yet. Will have to research as he seems quite popular.

Am just discounting Rishi because I want him back as chancellor. He seems to be the only one even remotely qualified to look after the books in this economic madness and I think so far he has done a good job.
