For me it’s Ben Wallace or Liz Truss. No idea how good either would be but for some reason I am drawn to them.

who do you all think it should be?

Tom Tugendhat 100%

saddowizca · 08/07/2022 21:48

Rory Stewart for me, but not in the running. Would also like a Labour/lib dem/green alliance.

Hugh Grant tweeted this earlier which sounds pretty accurate
“Dear World, You may be wondering what happens next in terms of the British constitution. The answer is that 3 newspaper owners - all of whom are non domiciled in the UK for tax purposes - get together and choose our next Prime Minister or “Poodle”. The Queen then anoints them.”

Tom Tugendhat.

Interestingly a friend who works within the Downing St machinery says that Jeremy Hunt would be the most competent by far.

ProfessorFusspot · 08/07/2022 21:57

It's early days yet; it seems the only people who've announced candidacy so far are Sunak, Tugendhat, Suella Braverman, and James Jacob Gilchrist Berry, who is apparently the former Minister for the Northern Powerhouse, which sounds kind of Game of Thrones if you squint.

I've got to say a preemptive no to Jeremy Hunt (does no one remember the actual pain of his stint as HSC Minister?) and Penny Mordaunt (whose lies about the EU and Brexit were so insane that Guy Verhofstadt famously blamed them on Nigel Farage on the floor of the European Parliament, and Nigel Farage indignantly accused him of making up horrible things that no one would say). Potentially open to anyone else, though - let's hear what the candidates have to say.

Nat6999 · 08/07/2022 21:57

Keir Starmer or Andy Burnham

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 08/07/2022 22:00

Kathy Burke or J K Rowling.

WafflyVersatileOohOoh · 08/07/2022 22:02

No takers for Suella, then?

zeddybrek · 08/07/2022 22:05

Sajid Javid or Tom Tugendhat

Kendodd · 08/07/2022 22:11

Rory Stewart
What a shame he was far too sensible for the current Tory leadership and got booted out.

Kathy Burke or J K Rowling.

Wouldn't the works be a brighter place to be? Smile

DoubleShotEspresso · 08/07/2022 22:13

*world

onlyfortonight · 08/07/2022 22:16

Keir Starmer

uncomfortablydumb53 · 08/07/2022 22:19

Sajid Javid
He appears calm rational and measured

1dayatatime · 08/07/2022 22:19

Assuming Ruth Davidson is not eligible then either Sajid Javid or Tom Tugendhat - both have principles and integrity.

The worst outcome would be either Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak both lacking in ability or integrity.

Oh and please please make Theresa May the caretaker PM firstly because she would do a really good job of it and knows how to be a PM but also because it would really really piss off Boris.

Larry the Cat. I reckon he was behind all the partygate leaks, doing his job as pest remover. Some rats just take longer than others.

I certainly believe he's got more competence, honesty and compassion than any tory.

I’m pretty sure all cats are Tories.
Just after making life easier for themselves with distain for others.

florrierainbow · 08/07/2022 22:21

Tobias Elwood for me too

Yeah & she would really whip the Downing Street staff & Civil Servants in to shape!

I'm loving this idea!

Redlocks28 · 08/07/2022 22:25

Any non-Tory. I’d quite like Caroline Lucas running the show, to be honest.

If I absolutely had to choose a Tory at gunpoint-I’d have to go for Nadine, just for the lols. I think she’d bring the party down within just one evening.

DappledOliveGroves · 08/07/2022 22:28

Don't know if she'll throw her hat in the ring or not but I do like Kemi Badenoch and think she'd be a good leader.

Eyesopenwideawake · 08/07/2022 22:29

Tobias Elwood always seemed slightly pissed, as though he'd just tumbled out of a nightclub and was trying to appear sober (nowt wrong with that!).

Another vote for Tom Tugendhat.

In an ideal world, David Milliband and Rory Stewart as joint PMs.

Yeah, trouble is many people thought BoJo was just for the lols...

artisanbread · 08/07/2022 22:33

Thinking long term, the one who is least likely to get the Tory party re-elected at the next election, so I'm thinking Suella Braverman or maybe Steve Baker as they both seem complett

artisanbread · 08/07/2022 22:34

Oops, completely hopeless that should say.

FindingMeno · 08/07/2022 22:36

Any Tory is a bad choice.
Mr Corbyn was and still is my choice.

Don'tcallthepolice · 08/07/2022 22:37

None of them. But if I had to Javid. The worst possible contender is that Zahawi. Horrible character.
