For me it’s Ben Wallace or Liz Truss. No idea how good either would be but for some reason I am drawn to them.

who do you all think it should be?

OP posts:
DinosaursEatMan · 08/07/2022 23:15

Wallace and Grommit might work actually.

TheHateIsNotGood · 08/07/2022 23:16

Emily Thornberry with Rachael Reeves as Chancellor. I know they're Labour, but the Tories are in such disarray so it's time for Labour to get on the case and sort themselves out, putting their own proposals forward, relying far less on criticizing the current govt for electoral mileage and make their own headway.

Get an electable Labour Leader that some Tories will sway to (eg: Thornberry).

PickAChew · 08/07/2022 23:16

Liz Truss seems perpetually baffled.

My only issue with Larry would be his tendency to resolve disagreements with hissing and claws. PMQ would become even more combative than it already is.

Moonmelodies · 08/07/2022 23:16

Ruth Davidson.

ProfessorFusspot · 08/07/2022 23:23

Kemi Badenoch is officially running: https://inews.co.uk/news/former-equalities-minister-kemi-badenoch-announced-tory-leadership-bid-1733814

Emily Thornbury, seriously?

gryilla · 08/07/2022 23:33

Sajid Javid is my pick. Experienced in a range of different departments and has principles. I like that he comes from a normal family background too, not a billionaire.

I think Tom Tugendhat and Kemi Badenoch are too inexperienced but I like them both and hope they get good postings in the new government! And Ben Wallace can stay in defence for Ukraine continuity.

alwaysscared · 08/07/2022 23:37

A general election.

A labour politician!

😂😂😂😂god I hope not.

TheHateIsNotGood · 08/07/2022 23:49

Yes Elton seriously - do you have some reasons why not? If you think there is something I should know then I'm happy to hear about it - and that's for real, not me being 'trappy' or snappy.

ohfook · 08/07/2022 23:52

Angela Raynor

partypineapple · 08/07/2022 23:53

Kemi Badenoch
Tom Tugenhadt
Ben Wallace

Would be my picks

caringcarer · 09/07/2022 00:04

I am a Conservative voter but I really don't like any of the candidates. Definately not Sunak who has taxed more than any other Chancellor. Definitely not Jeremy Hunt who could not run an Egg and Spoon race for children. Possibly Maudant or Truss as best of a bad selection. Ellwood is a nightmare and is still banging on about reversing Brexit.

Someone who doesn’t want it.I have much more respect for the ones currently considering it, talking in through with the family etc than those who want it (and have been producing slick campaign videos…)

They are all so desperate to be PM but I don’t feel like many of them want to do it for the right reasons. As unpopular as Theresa May was I genuinely believe she felt a sense of duty and responsibility as PM. I could see her sticking things out in the Lords when she eventually gets made a peer and turning up to vote etc into old age

Definitely May.
She would be a great PM just at the wrong time.

No takers for Suella, then?

Not yet. She's only been in Government 5 minutes.

tobee · 09/07/2022 02:51

None of them are great of course.

I really wanted Boris Johnson gone because he was wrecking the country and demeaning the office of pm.

But it's hard to want a good Tory pm as a traditional Labour voter. But I don't want the country to be further fucked.

If Rishi Sunak has taxed people a lot that's a point in his favour. But the rest I hear is not good.

A leader who wants what’s best for this country that portrays him or herself to be slightly unhinged to scare Putin into thinking twice about any actions he might take against the U.K. and who has the leadership to actually get stuff done with out trying too hard to make everyone happy and end up pleasing no one.

Kier Starmer

Yes, then they can get someone decent to lead Labour who haven't got a chance in hell while he is at the helm

HannahSternDefoe · 09/07/2022 05:42

Grant Shapps.

FungalNail · 09/07/2022 05:50

Kemi Badnoch, amazing woman!

Yiayoula · 09/07/2022 07:21

Rory Stewart would have been my first choice but that’s unlikely , sadly.

So Tom Tugendhat all the way .

I don’t want anyone who was apparently supporting BJ up until a few days ago .
Tainted by association.

Namechange7777 · 09/07/2022 10:25

It would be good to have a prime minister who didn’t go to Oxford.
I’d go for Sajid Javid.

Meant Eton not Oxford

Larry the Cat. I reckon he was behind all the partygate leaks, doing his job as pest remover. Some rats just take longer than others.

I certainly believe he's got more competence, honesty and compassion than any tory.

🤣🤣🤣

Not Mordaunt - she's bonkers and not good with woman's rights
Not Sunak - doesn't understand financial stuff emotionally despite being great at actual financial stuff.
Not Hunt - same re woman's rights re abortion
Not Truss - I don't think she's up to it
Not Braverman - she's my MP and career hungrynrather than any actual use

I like Elwood and Tugenhat. I'd also vote for Stewart if he was running.

I think Javid and Wallace have great credentials for the job but for me they are too far right and I think we need a more centric approach now having seen how the far right one worked out!
