Does anyone not do something because you know it will upset the pets?

I’m hot and bothered and I have access to an air conditioner fan. Won’t switch it on though because the cats in the room and she hates it.

She’s all chilled out, and relaxed so I don’t want to upset her and make her run

Dh don’t get my reasoning. Hmm

How about not going abroad for 10 years because the dogs wouldn't like kennels?

This was us, 15 years, 2007 to 2022

frazzledasarock · 08/07/2022 20:44

One of our cats has a favourite spot on our bed so I have to sleep diagonally so he is not disturbed and has space.

one cat like sleeping leaning against the crook of the back of my legs, I have to lie perfectly still otherwise she is mighty offended.

I cannot bring myself to shoo either cat off the bed.

Whatsthestoryboringglory · 08/07/2022 20:46

I avoid changing tv channel if DCat looks engrossed in whatever is on. Even if it’s shudder Hollyoaks.

TheSummerPalace · 08/07/2022 20:49

We don’t shut the internal doors in the house, as DCats like to wander in and out of rooms at will! A shut door leads to the carpet being pulled up!

I don’t make the beds in the morning, because the little angels like to sleep on the beds in a timeshare system - they are ours’ at night, and theirs’ all day!

SilentHedges · 08/07/2022 20:50

My Gerbils are not kept in the same room as the TV as they're highly sensitive to electrical interference. It's the sound waves all Gerbils operate on. I try not to use electrical stuff around them.

Yes, really

Woolandwonder · 08/07/2022 20:54

I've put off packing my suitcase all day because my cat's been asleep on it and I didn't want to move her.

Cocolapew · 08/07/2022 20:56

DDog was PTS in February at 12 years old. In that time me and DH only spent 5 days away in total because she missed us. We only were able to go when the DDs were old enough to stay on their own with her. I wouldn't let DH travel to my DBs wedding so she wasn't left without any of us.
I have a 7 month puppy now and shes a bit more independent 😀

GrilledWatermelon · 08/07/2022 20:59

Awww, faith in humanity restored.

Current dog is broadly unflappable so we don't have to make too many wild accommodations for him, other than, erm, <cough> that he is an accidental lockdown puppy (arranged and collected a week prior to lockdown being announced) and HAS NEVER BEEN LEFT ALONE. 😳

QOD · 08/07/2022 21:02

Oh good don’t. I just got back from a 5 day holiday and ddog had 6 nights in one of my best friends houses, with mums dog who we live with and she was so manically depressed when I picked her up 😭
ive spent the whole sunny day (of
hokiday from work too) sat on the sofa next to her trying to cheer her up
she’s finally almost herself
I have another 5 day break booked for end august 😭

GrilledWatermelon · 08/07/2022 21:02

Our old dog though...totally neurotic and very defensive (aggressive?). She'd snuggle up to us in bed but if you so much as twitched she'd snarl like a tasmanian devil, so we slept in immovable terror. For 12 years. I still miss her every day.

GrandRapids · 08/07/2022 21:05

Constantly. If one of the dogs is sprawled on the sofa and husband comes in, he either sits on the floor or is instructed to gently reposition said dog.

Dogs come up on the bed, we are hanging over the edge

Insist radio is left on when we go out so they aren't in a silent house

There are probably many more examples but yes they are mollycoddled and loved beyond belief!!

Soubriquet · 08/07/2022 19:20

Glad to see I’m not the only loony.

DH hates it when I say I can’t come to you because the cat/dog is on me.

Hes like “move them!!” No!

Why did you marry this monster?

Whichisit · 08/07/2022 21:11

I don't put the extractor fan on when cooking when madam is in the room as she doesn't like it.

No music in the car on the way to the vet.

Get house sitters instead of boarding as pets prefer it.

frugalkitty · 08/07/2022 21:11

We don't make the bed if the cat is asleep in or on it. Although DH doesn't make the bed anyway, but that's a different issue.

The cat is the only being allowed to sleep in my chair if I'm not in it. Perfectly reasonable I always say, I do love him more than my kids anything else

This is my dilemma. 😭

dh isn’t going on the Hol but works. We are thinking of leaving her home and he’ll do short days at work 🤦🏼‍♀️

MostTacticalNameChange · 08/07/2022 21:17

Never interrupt a sleeping cat!

Mine will only go on my lap very occasionally, maybe once a week. It is more important than anything else happening at that moment...delivery at the door, in a vital work meeting (camera goes off), needing a wee etc. The only thing I've had to move him for has been school pick up and I seriously considered booking DC into the afterschool club.

My cats despise the expensive water fountain I bought them and will only drink from either a mucky rain puddle on a wheelie bin lid, a water filled wine glass on the worktops or from a freshly filled (to the top as they watch) sink upstairs. If they decide they want fresh sink water at 4am, they chew my hair until I oblige. And somehow it makes me love them more Grin

Cocolapew · 08/07/2022 21:21

Years ago we went on honeymoon, DDog went to kennels for 4 days then to the inlaws. He was a German Shepherd and in a fit of pique ate their entire kitchen floor.
When we got him home he went and sat in the garden with his back to us for 5 hours.

Mammma91 · 08/07/2022 21:22

I sweep my kitchen floor at bedtime when the house is quiet because one of my cats has an unreasonable hatred of the sweeping brush. She hisses at it as soon as it’s out the cupboard. I wait until she’s settled in her bed and lock myself in the kitchen to get the floors done 😂 my 3 year old DS has sided with the cat. DP thinks it’s hilarious but sticks to the rules.

maddiemookins16mum · 08/07/2022 21:35

Move my legs in bed.
Sit on my sofa.
Open the fridge to make a sandwich as cat no 1 will think I’m opening ham and she can’t have any.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/07/2022 21:40

No Christmas tree (didn't last 48 hours before being attacked)
No ntrakables fruit bowls - I have a metal one now after FemaleCat sent two crashing to the floor . One was over 24 years old
No candles- I haven't even tried lighting a candle since they arrived , the risk is too big

If anyone strange ( eg workmen) come to the house MaleCat storms out with huge saucer eyes "Mum, Mum, theres a ......... a MAN in the house"
He hogs the sofa too !

Any holidays we have DD and DS CatSit /HouseSit . The cats wou;dn't appreciate cattery

Love the little scrotes though Grin

FourChimneys · 08/07/2022 21:48

Not me but a bilingual family I used to know. They spoke their own language to each other when the cat was out but always spoke in English in front of her. She was an English cat and they didn't want to confuse her or make her feel left out.

HalfBrick · 08/07/2022 21:51
  1. Eat tinned fish if the cat is in the house even if I really fancy it for lunch.
  2. Use the hairdryer in my bedroom if the cat is sleeping on my bed (after being out all night and waking me at 5, the shit).
DangerouslyBored · 08/07/2022 21:54

Our dogs come everywhere with us. They get so upset if we leave them even with a lovely dog sitter staying in their own home. We would never ever leave them in kennels. They would never get over the trauma and we would feel so guilty the whole time. They are the loveliest, most affectionate creatures and deserve all the love and attention bestowed upon them.
