Braverman is probably deluded enough to believe she's a credible candidate. 🤣

There's no probably about it.

newnamethanks · 07/07/2022 06:04

Stella Braverman as leader?😂😂😂😂😂Always good to start the day with a laugh. Let's have Ms Patel as deputy.

Bloody autocorrect. You know who I mean.

If someone had told me a week ago that Braverman would put herself forward as a Tory PM, I would think they'd been on the sauce! But there you have it. It has given me a laugh amongst all this shit.

BJ is now governed by his determination to stay in office. We knew didn't we? We know he cared nothing about the electorate, his cabinet, the people of GB. Blaming the Labour Party does not cut it for me. They had a hell of a lot of rebuilding to do after Corbyn and stamping out anti semitism, and I don't get the hate for KS.

Just hearing the number of resignations stands at 46. I've missed a few overnight possibly. Just heard one was a Cabinet Minister, Simon Hart, Welsh Sec.

Interestingly... I've just seen again footage on the Committee grilling yesterday, in particular the questions on Lebedev and his partying in Italy with an ex KGB Agent whilst giving his Aides and Security the slip. At one point, as he is waffling away trying to get out of saying 'Yes, I did this'.... his aide passed him a large piece of paper saying 'STOP TALKING'.

Back in May wasn't a Conservative MP arrested over rape and sexual assault offences ?

Quentin Letts has just hinted on GMTV that Boris Johnson has a mental illness and needs to be taken to rehab ( or somewhere similar)
Extraordinary times.

ClaudineClare · 07/07/2022 06:40

The idea that Labour share the blame for this debacle is daft. Yes it is true that the opposition could have been a lot more proactive in holding him to account. but the facts of the situation meant that they could not actually DO anything. Johnson had and (still has) a massive majority, which meant he could do what he liked. Labour had no way of stopping him. Only Johnson's own party could do that. It largely chose not to until Monday of this week.

Johnson, the Tories and the people who voted for them bear responsibility for the mess we are in.

Let's see what today brings...

This is the Trump timeline. I followed him closely and that was always the thoughts about him. I don't agree, apart from them both being narcissistic. Bottom line... they're both just horrible people who want to be king of the world.

Interesting. His biographer was on Newsnight last night. She said that there were people close to him who felt from the start that he did not have the mental resilience needed to cope with the pressures of being PM.

Is there a special mechanism for removing a PM whose mental health is in question?

the80sweregreat · 07/07/2022 06:49

Let's all blame the Labour Party , what a shambles. Who has been in power for 12 years? Who has the big majority? Not the LP
This is what narcissistic people do though , they absolutely blame everyone else. Its never them is it ? My late mil was one and they are hard work. It's all about them.

ClaudineClare · 07/07/2022 06:49

The Queen could dismiss him, couldn't she? Wouldn't that be a fitting end for Call-me-Churchill. Binned off by Her Maj.

the80sweregreat · 07/07/2022 06:52

Quentin letts didn't say 'rehab ' but he was saying that he clearly needs help of some kind.
It was heavily hinted by him just now.
Sober interviews on there today. I think the important people are a bit shell shocked.
Or dont know what to do.

the80sweregreat · 07/07/2022 06:53

Brandon Lewis has gone now .

Agree with this.

But also all the "we need Johnson because Labour ......"

I've never bought it.

My response always "but Tory's are are in power - what you're saying is Johnson is the best the Tory party have and instead of admitting that's the problem you're deflecting because Corbyn was the best Labour had."

Roussette · 07/07/2022 06:56

And Helen Whateley. No loss there. An over promoted useless waste of space.

She was something on health and social care? I remember a car crash interview she did during the pandemic!

guinnessguzzler · 07/07/2022 06:58

Morning all! Has he been sectioned yet? Genuinely not being flippant about mental health; honestly think that could be how it ends now.

All these people resigning now who still supported him just a few weeks ago. Yes he handled Pincher badly but it was entirely within his standard MO: lie, deny, minimise, defend the indefensible ... this is exactly what he has been doing consistently since the parties, and well before. They should all be utterly ashamed of themselves for enabling him for so long, when it was in their interests, and that it took an alcoholic sexually assaulting some men to finally spur them in to action.

Yes, actually, this all about fucking cake, but it's not about the cake, it's never about the cake, or the carrots, or whatever; it's about standards in public office and the public being able to expect that no matter how much we disagree with our politicians and the decisions they make, we can trust that broadly they make those decisions in good faith and acting with what they believe to be the best interests of our country in mind. That they behave with honesty and integrity and not in their own self interest. Mr Johnson has led an approach that said none of this mattered and demonstrated time and again that he felt there was no place for ethical standards in public life and this shower of sycophants followed and cheered along until it became utterly embarrassing to stick with him any more.

Yes, they should be held to account, including by other politicians, and the electorate, but ultimately this is a Tory problem that won't disappear once Mr Johnson has gone because their culture is saturated with the view that it was 'only cake' and it therefore doesn't really matter. They don't understand people because they don't care about people, they are only interested in themselves.

She was most recently Treasury Minister

Yes, she was Minister for Care or something but moved last year to th Exchequer. She always seemed totally out of her depth.

Brandon Lewis's resig letter particularly scathing. I think he was going to resign yesterday but took his time penning this letter, slept on it, whacked it in this morning.

How many more today?

I agree, they should be ashamed but I don't think it was anything to do with an alcoholic sexually assaulting men. I think it was seeing the blatant sending out of Ministers to deliberately lie to the public day after day and the timeline being that each lie was shown up as a lie very quickly. I think Ministers and MPs were shocked at how they were blatantly being used to cover for BJ. I don't think they cared a damn for any victims.

Julian Smith on Today saying Johnson’s “I have a personal mandate” argument preposterous and making direct parallels with Trump.

Has any serving PM in history had a full on mental breakdown in office? I'm starting to think bojo will make history! I can see him being dragged out to a white van and escorted out of No 10.

I think this was obvious. A man in his 50s who gets police called to his property over late night arguments with his partner, wine being thrown around etc is not in a stable place. Many of them aren't. I actually think they should all receive much better screening before they stand, counselling at point of election and far more robust mental health support throughout their time serving as MPs. It is a high pressure, very public role that people are often catapulted into overnight and which I'm sure attracts certain personalities more than others and many of them clearly do not cope well with it at all.
