Woolly Hugs. A Blanket for lovely JungleZgok whose wonderful teenage son has died.

You may have heard the dreadfully sad news that JungleZgok’s wonderful 18 year old son recently died very suddenly. Mental ill health can be such a devastating illness. Bless his heart. Life has been very cruel to them all. We send JungleZgok, her DH and their daughters our love and are so sorry. They are all in our thoughts.

We are so glad that she has accepted our offer of a Woolly Hug, we hope it may give whatever comfort it can. There will be love crafted into every stitch. JungleZgok’s original thread is here…

So we are now asking for help once again.

Important crafting info, please do read
Squares to be six inches, using 4mm needles or hook. Please knot off VERY carefully when finishing or changing colour and sew your ends in, thank you! No blocking please, makes it much easier to join squares.

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.

Ideas from lovely Jungle
His favourite colour was purple and he liked flowers (in particular the Bird of Paradise, pic in OP). He loved DIIV the band, sunsets and all types of music too. (DIIV is an American rock band from Brooklyn, New York City.)

Purples, his favourite, we plan to join and edge in purple too.
All blues from night sky through to pale blue
Greens, woodland shades

Brett Pure Merino DK in your stash, please do use them.

When posting, it will be the Teddington address, please make sure you add your name and who the squares are for, and if you would like to include a card for JungleZgok and her family, please do, we will pass it on.

We know that some schools in the UK are already on summer break, and others are imminently doing likewise, so plan to stretch the last posting date to Saturday 10th September to give everyone a chance.

I have ordered some more wool to do a few additional squares but, with the postage strike coupled with the BH weekend, I'm not too sure when it'll arrive 😩😫.

Once Postman Pat delivers I'll dust off my crochet hook crack on 😊.

The summer hols have ran away from me so I haven’t been on mumsnet in weeks! I’ve done 4 squares and already passed them over to my sister who’s going to post them for me…but I might be able to do something from the additional requests before the 19th. I have plenty of green left over for a turtle square maybe? (I’m not sure what the protocol is with ´leftover’ wool? I received donor wool so should I return it or hang onto it?). My squares are a bit wonky but I’m hoping construction will tame them into shape 😬

I'm hoping this message uploads alright as I'm posting via my phone rather than my laptop (technology is wonderful unless your a 58 year old technophobe).

Anyway I'm happy to send off some more squares which I hope will be ok for Jungle's woolly hug.

I've done a small selection of squares and included 2 bobble cats as I read that the family had 2 pet cats.
I've seen other, more talented, MNers have made cat squares which are amazing so hopefully all our efforts will sit together nicely.

I'll pop these squares in the post in the next few days .

Squares all done and ready to post (they look different sizes in the picture but that’s mainly because they’re rolling over - they were all 6 x 6 when I pinned them out). However, the post office shut earlier than advertised today, and the next chance I have to get there will be Wednesday - hope that’s OK timing-wise?

Here are three of mine, which will go in the post by the end of the week. There is a fourth, plain square in two shades of purple which I will include too. I was hoping to put some red lips on it, but have run out of time - perhaps there are embellishments from another crafter which can be used.
