You may have heard the dreadfully sad news that JungleZgok’s wonderful 18 year old son recently died very suddenly. Mental ill health can be such a devastating illness. Bless his heart. Life has been very cruel to them all. We send JungleZgok, her DH and their daughters our love and are so sorry. They are all in our thoughts. Thanks

We are so glad that she has accepted our offer of a Woolly Hug, we hope it may give whatever comfort it can. There will be love crafted into every stitch. JungleZgok’s original thread is here…

So we are now asking for help once again.
We shall need crafters and donors of funds and wool, can you help us? We’d be so grateful. Thank you so much.

Important crafting info, please do read
Squares to be six inches, using 4mm needles or hook. Please knot off VERY carefully when finishing or changing colour and sew your ends in, thank you! No blocking please, makes it much easier to join squares.

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.

Ideas from lovely Jungle
His favourite colour was purple and he liked flowers (in particular the Bird of Paradise, pic in OP). He loved DIIV the band, sunsets and all types of music too. (DIIV is an American rock band from Brooklyn, New York City.)

The Colours
Purples, his favourite, we plan to join and edge in purple too.
All blues from night sky through to pale blue
Greens, woodland shades
yellows, oranges, pinks, red (sunset shades)

The Yarn we will be Using….
Debbie Bliss Rialto DK ( Is on sale and can only be bought from Love Crafts)
Drops Merino Extra Fine DK, try Wool Warehouse here..
King Cole Luxury Merino DK on sale and at Love Crafts too.
Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK Currently on sale on at Black Sheep Wools
Patons Merino Extrafine DK Currently on sale at Lady Sew and Sew Knits

Just from the brands listed please because we know they combine for wash and wear. If you still have any of our wools that have been discontinued or difficult to source - Artesano Superwash Merino DK, Katia Merino 100% DK, Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK, Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK or James C. Brett Pure Merino DK in your stash, please do use them.

When posting, it will be the Teddington address, please make sure you add your name and who the squares are for, and if you would like to include a card for JungleZgok and her family, please do, we will pass it on.

We know that some schools in the UK are already on summer break, and others are imminently doing likewise, so plan to stretch the last posting date to Saturday 10th September to give everyone a chance.

Thank you so much lovely Woolly crew. Thanks
Remembering their wonderful son.

Woolly Hugs. A Blanket for lovely JungleZgok whose wonderful teenage son has died.

Let's go for an extended last posting of September 19th, then we can achieve these new ideas. How does that sound?

That would be great, I've got one DC off to uni and one to college in that timeframe so the extra few days will help. I have found a cat square pattern.

I'm going to go now, make a coffee and an African violet square, in sunset shades. Wish me luck because it will involve COUNTING :)

Counting which gets voiced louder and louder when someone comes in and starts talking to you, if my experience is anything to go by 😉

Do the embellishments need to be in the same yarns mentioned, or could I make some in what I have available?

@longtompot - I am a huge fan of Terry Pratchett. If you haven't read his books, some are set in the city of Ankh Morpork, where there are various guilds for the professions - everything from seamstresses (actually ladies of negotiable affection) to assassins and clowns. Someone - a knitter, I presume - invented an Ankh Morpork Guild of Knitters and Yarn Crafters, and created a shield and motto for them.

The motto, in Latin, was "Favete Linguis - Ego Numero" - which was supposed to translate as "Be Quiet - I'm Counting!"

If I ever get a tattoo, that's what I'm getting.

@longtompot It is better if we all just stick to the yarns as listed, for consistency in wash and wear, is there a colour you need? Can we help?

I too am a fan, but not sure why you've tagged me in on your post😬

@KnottyAndPistey absolutely, thought it would be the case. I don't have any of the yarn left that was sent (and can only afford acrylic yarn which is all I have) so if there is any going spare and you'd like me to make some embellishments please do send it my way. I haven't posted my squares yet, so can add it to the parcel.

Oops, @longtompot - I am such an idiot. I tagged you because you’d quoted @KnottyAndPistey’s post, when I should have tagged them. I don’t have my thinking brain on today. Buggerit millennium hand and shrimp.

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius ahhh all clear now! I reread all my posts in case I'd forgotten something I'd written, but the counting bit makes sense

I'm a big Pratchett fan too. I confess I didn't know this though! He must have known a knitter/hooker in real life

@KnottyAndPistey I wasn’t tagged but would be happy to help. I have a fab book with lots of ideas for granny squares for turtles, fish and penguins 🥰 so I could certainly have another go at something. However I am running low of the right yarn type from my own stash so if there’s any donor yarn going that would be helpful.
