Avoided it this far - today it's caught up with me

Covid.

Since the pandemic my world, like many others I guess, has now become a lot smaller.

I do go out and about, quiet times where possible for the supermarket shop etc - meet friends in gardens still for catch ups and take my own coffee etc.

DD negative but DP positive first and I've been avoiding them rigorously. Seems the damage has been done.

It's only a question of time - a day or so maybe? That Covid scores it's hat trick in this house.

No actual point to this post at all.

Are you vaccinated? If so you can expect a nasty tiring cold or you might get off with it

MichelleScarn · 03/07/2022 15:37

Have you and dp not been working? No school for dd?

EarringsandLipstick · 03/07/2022 15:38

You're pretty unusual not to have had it by now.

The current dose isn't pleasant by all accounts, but you'll be fine.

I am surprised you are 'rigorously avoiding' anyone unless you are compromised in some way?

I’ve been to gigs, packed trains and all sorts during the height of Omicron and not a sniff of it

got it 3.5 weeks ago and the only place I’d been was the supermarket 🙄

not testing kids as per advice for under 18s but they were fine. Husband refused to test. Well he did one test when I tested positive cos I nagged him but he refused to do more. I bet the kids got it asymptomatically at school and gave it to me.

Fingers crossed you’ll be fine. I did stay home as it felt wrong to go out once I knew I had it but I kept having to remind myself I actually had it as it was mild. I could so easily have not have tested and gone about as normal without a thought.

ermagerdabear · 03/07/2022 15:43

I had it for the first time ever a couple of weeks ago, as did DH who worked outside the home all through the lockdowns. It wasn't even as bad as a cold except for the tiredness and as long I didn't too much during the day I was fine. I only tested because I work with the public and have to let work know if I catch it.

Chances are you'll be absolutely fine.

LovinglifeAF · 03/07/2022 15:43

Why on Earth are you still living such a limited existence 2.5 years in? Were you CEV?

PrincessPark · 03/07/2022 15:44

@MichelleScarn - we both work from home and DD is pretty self sufficient at school 6th form now, but the school is at the end of our road.

OP posts:
Cotherstone · 03/07/2022 15:46

I think most people have had it now, and especially since vaccinations, most people haven’t had much worse than they would have with a bad cold, which is fortunate.

Is there a reason why you are still only meeting in gardens and taking your own drinks?

Only because the majority of the country are now back at work, school, trains, restaurants etc - I’d say from all the people I know, no one’s world is really “smaller” now, bar the odd thing like deciding not to go to a big concert or on a plane.

Aquamarine1029 · 03/07/2022 15:46

Unless you are CEV, this is way OTT, and you sound extremely paranoid.

TeapotTitties · 03/07/2022 15:52

< Disappointed > I thought this thread was going to be about an interesting secret or wrong doing that finally caught up with you 😕

Covid doesn't have to 'score a ha trick'. I've had it twice and despite sharing a bed with DH, he's never caught it.

PrincessPark · 03/07/2022 15:52

I'm not going to drip feed my lifestyle choices here on a public forum which undoubtedly will out me - shall we treat strangers with kindness and not belittle them ?

OP posts:
JudgeRindersMinder · 03/07/2022 15:54

I’ve seen a lot of posts like this on my social media, along with a photo of a test and to be honest I just think wtf? You’ve basically got a stinking summer cold, you’re not actually that special

AuntieMarys · 03/07/2022 15:54

I agree with pp...definitely OTT. Are you going to be like this for ever?
Unless there's a huge drip feed......

carefullycourageous · 03/07/2022 15:57

You are very unusual to still be being so cautious, I think that is why people are wondering if there are reasons behind your caution.

I personally have taken COVID very seriously throughout - am still wearing a mask on the bus for example while everyone else looks at me as if to say 'But that very reliable Mr Johnson says I have nothing to worry about' - but I am now going where I want to.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 03/07/2022 15:57

It's really not that big a deal.

BusySittingDown · 03/07/2022 15:57

Happened to me too! Been everywhere - theatres, concerts, theme parks, cinemas, even went on holiday abroad in 2020 and went on a plane. Been on trains etc.

Caught it at the beginning of May (I think possibly DD had caught it from school and brought it home). Didn't have it too badly though, just felt tired.

Holymole · 03/07/2022 15:58

My mil has finally caught it this week after successfully avoiding thus far. She's had all her jabs and it's still left her bedridden (but she's probably much older than you OP). Hope you don't get it too badly.

carefullycourageous · 03/07/2022 15:59

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 03/07/2022 15:57

It's really not that big a deal.

Well, this is not true - COVID definitely can be a big deal, the post-viral issues are very problematic on a national scale and the issues with the vaccines now seeming to be of decreasing impact is a real concern.

There is quite a lot of middle ground between 'panic' and 'nothing to worry about'.

Aquamarine1029 · 03/07/2022 16:00

How dramatic.

Well, what you're describing is extreme.

So there must be a back story somewhere. Of course, you're free not to share it but you can't blame people for making judgements and assumptions.

miltonj · 03/07/2022 16:01

This post reads like it was written 2 years ago.

You'll feel a bit rough but will be fine in all likelihood. I would start trying to relax back into life though, meeting friends inside and drinking their coffee is absolutely ok, I think you'll feel a huge sense of relief when you start getting back into normal life. I don't mean that in a belittling way.

Luredbyapomegranate · 03/07/2022 16:01

By the sounds of it you aren’t vulnerable, so you’ll be grand.

It sounds like you have anxiety OP, and this is not healthy. Few people are still living like this. I would go and see your GP.

SpiceRat · 03/07/2022 16:01

Still not had it either. Not living a hermit life, got public transport regularly, go to shops and supermarkets, big events, meals out etc. DP not had it either. Was around a potentially positive person a while ago too. Maybe we’re lucky, I think some are perhaps predisposed not to get it. I think if I do get it, it’ll be at a festival we have tickets for in August, given the glasto stats (though it’s like a tenth of the size so who knows)

NewYorkLassie · 03/07/2022 16:02

PrincessPark · 03/07/2022 15:44

@MichelleScarn - we both work from home and DD is pretty self sufficient at school 6th form now, but the school is at the end of our road.

What does this mean? You’ve left her to fend for herself to avoid contact as much as possible for the last 2.5 years?

Are you receiving treatment for your anxiety?

Summerwhereareyou · 03/07/2022 16:03

@PrincessPark

Go fonfhe to COVID section, usually running threads of people holding hands.
I had it three /4 week's ago and found it helpful seeing what other people syntpmms were
