Avoided it this far - today it's caught up with me

Covid.

Since the pandemic my world, like many others I guess, has now become a lot smaller.

I do go out and about, quiet times where possible for the supermarket shop etc - meet friends in gardens still for catch ups and take my own coffee etc.

DD negative but DP positive first and I've been avoiding them rigorously. Seems the damage has been done.

It's only a question of time - a day or so maybe? That Covid scores it's hat trick in this house.

No actual point to this post at all.

You sound ridiculously over cautious. I’ve not had it to my knowledge despite being in lots of situations where you would have thought I’d have caught it. I know I’ll get it eventually but life is for living, not existing.

LunaMay · 03/07/2022 16:52

Hoping if you do get it it's not too bad for you OP. I'm not in the UK but it doesnt seem like 'everybody' has had it here. My sister just tested positive and made me a close contact so i'm off for a test tomorrow. She's not been too bad so far but obviously felt unwell enough to test herself.

Some of my work colleagues have had it recently and it seems to be a mixed bag - some wouldn't have known and only tested because their family members had it and for the others it completely wiped them out and they took longer than the recommended 7 days off to get back into work

FootontheHeartbreak · 03/07/2022 16:56

I know two elderly ladies who have just had it. Just like a cold. Everyone I know has been triple jabbed but still got it.

Hi @PrincessPark I know you don’t want to explain too much which is fine, but are you able to say what it is specifically that concerns you most?

I tested positive for covid for the first time yesterday!

Swedalia · 03/07/2022 17:00

I had to check the date of this post, thought it was a zombie thread from 2 years ago..

Very dramatic. And unhealthy.

Runaround50 · 03/07/2022 17:00

You are quite unusual in isolating yourself from society. If you are going to get it, you will get it, end of.

I've worked all through the pandemic, in a school. No working from home etc etc and I've not had it yet.

Echobelly · 03/07/2022 17:01

It's not a given everyone in household gets it. I caught it off DS in January - teenager and DH did not catch it, and that was despite DH sharing a bed with me and generally my personal space in the time I developed minor symptoms but was still testing negative. I think less than half of the people I know who've had it in this round have been seriously ill - either asymptomatic or like when I had it, a mild sore throat and headache for a few days.

Purplepeopleeaterz · 03/07/2022 17:02

Sure you’ll be fine OP, of my 15 colleagues have had it within the last 5 weeks. 1 still unwell, 1 saying they’re very tired and dizzy all the others no issues after the first week barring losing taste/smell.
No idea how I’ve avoided it so far but I will feel like you when I do catch it I’m sure.

TeapotTitties · 03/07/2022 16:19

I’ve got the omicron version 5 too

Curious as to how you know?

I thought the tests only tell you whether you have Covid or not?

That’s my assumption because that’s the predominant strain in england at the moment??
like you could be pretty sure to have omicron (version 1? 😁😁) in December-January, delta before that etc….

HotHeatDays · 03/07/2022 17:03

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 03/07/2022 15:57

It's really not that big a deal.

My usually very healthy friend who is currently in hospital with it, would disagree.

Chasingclouds100 · 03/07/2022 17:05

I completely agree! You don’t need to justify yourself to anyone. I had covid in February after being so anxious for nearly 2 years and pretty much not going anywhere that was indoors. It wasn’t too bad really even though I have bad asthma. Hopefully you won’t catch it and I hope your family are ok too

ToooOldForThis · 03/07/2022 17:07

I had it for the first time a few weeks ago and am still not right..I think the OP is correct to avoid other people for a few days to be honest, purely on the basis that I wouldn't want other people to feel as bad as I did!

BellePeppa · 03/07/2022 17:09

I’m double jabbed and boostered and only knew I had it when hospital postponed a procedure I was due to have. I’d never have guessed I had it and I’d been really worried about getting it due to being quite a bronchial person. I didn’t really have any symptoms at all so you may have even had it by now and didn’t know.

SummertimeTremdendous · 03/07/2022 17:10

I got it a few days ago and have quite a bad dose. Not bedridden or anything but throat full of razorblades, feeling tired, dry, hacking cough, sweats. Was feeling pretty sorry for myself until I remembered that I haven't had a virus of any kind for nearly 4 years, and this is normal. I think our expectations are in danger of unrealistically thinking we should never have viruses that make us ill. When in fact we need them very much for immunity.

Since the pandemic my world, like many others I guess, has now become a lot smaller.

I would hope thats not the case and that most people have got back to normal unless they have long term health problems.

SingingInParadise · 03/07/2022 17:10

In some ways it’s a relief when you have it as you know there’s less chance of getting again soon and when you do it should be milder.

@CallOnMe I’m afraid this is wrong. The more you catch covid, the more likely you are to have serious issues. Long covid but not just that.

WHO comment on multiple infections

GiveMeNovocain · 03/07/2022 17:14

@SingingInParadise if 2 vaccinations and a booster in less than a year don't work I'm not sure what will. Certainly not a piece of cotton over my nose

SingingInParadise · 03/07/2022 17:15

@SummertimeTremdendous i wouldn’t call that a ‘bad dose’ if you were still able to function and not in bed.

SingingInParadise · 03/07/2022 17:17

@GiveMeNovocain well let me think…..

ventilation, testing, people actually PAID to stay and home and not go and infect their coworkers, FPP2 masks (not flimsy material or blue mask).

It has been explained so many times now….

SingingInParadise · 03/07/2022 17:21

Look at what Sage members are proposing

LovinglifeAF · 03/07/2022 17:26

I don’t think anyone is being “unkind” but living this way 2.5 years in on the face of it seems unusual to say the least. Still it’s your life and if you’re happy fair dos.

as for Christina Pagel she’s not part of Sage, she’s independent sage and wired to the moon. I can’t believe all this parroting about masks is still going on.

Yes, this.

Covid isn't like other illnesses. How many people do you know who've had flu 3 times this year?

Professors of Immunology are finding Covid evades the immune system, so catching it doesn't seem to give a booster unfortunately and increasingly so with more recent variants. We really need to be acting differently than we are.

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/jul/01/herd-immunity-covid-virus-vaccine

"Most people – even when triple-vaccinated – had 20 times less neutralising antibody response against Omicron than against the initial “Wuhan” strain. Importantly, Omicron infection was a poor booster of immunity to further Omicron infections. It is a kind of stealth virus that gets in under the radar without doing too much to alert immune defences. Even having had Omicron, we’re not well protected from further infections"

Countries like Japan who are carrying on with reasonable restrictions which seem to be limiting levels of infection - like ffp2 masks on public transport - I believe will have a much less disabled population ultimately, and less disruption to daily life too.

But people don’t and won’t do it. People say “oh if people wore decent quality masks and wore them properly they’d make a difference” but - they don’t and no one can make them. So we are where we are.

I am starting to think a lot of these scientists over the last 2 years are seeing their work and money drying up and just saying what they can to try and raise the fear level again and keep themselves in the spotlight.

Buythebag40 · 03/07/2022 17:32

Shocked that people are still living in fear of covid.

You need help with your anxiety OP. Or, just carry on as you are if you're enjoying it - after all, covid is here to stay so...?

Crass.
